Islamic Iran has never dealt in good faith or honored it private agreements. It has constantly used its 2 faced deceptive manner to further its own agenda and make other leaders look like fools.

One thing is for sure.
The rulers and military leaders know if they don't come out of this looking like they held off the USA and other nations, it is their death warrant.

Wild and absurd perhaps, but also the situation in a nutshell.

One faction that gets little mention is the Bonyads - basically tax-exempt foundations and charities that control a lot of wealth and are aligned with the IRGC. You can think of them together as Iran's military-industrial complex. War would reduce both their influence and their wealth. More here

The IRGC are True Believers(tm) and will fight to the end. The other players may be fanatical to varying degrees but are much less interested in suicide, however glorious. If the others can "outvote" the IRGC, we avoid the Big Bada Boom. Hopefully, the Iranians will see reason. If not, we will bring reason to them.

I think it was Yogi who said "To subdue the enemy without fighting is the Acme of skill".
