5 The difference between journalism and reporting.

A journalist comes up with a story to push, and THEN looks for tidbits to offer as confirmation, then writes the story.That's why he says he spent so much time writing.

A reporter hears something, then investigates what's going on, and lets the story and facts speak for themselves.

One journalism trick is to start out with a paragraph or two sounding sympathetic to one side.... and then spending the entire rest of the piece attacking that side. This deceptive practice was taught to me by an English Composition teacher who was an occasional stringer.
