Neither Iran nor Israel is hitting "only" the civilian scientists they are aiming for. There is collateral damage on both sides. That's what a war is and that's why they are not the first soluition to resolving a problem

Aimed for it, anyway — Iran actually did not hit Dimona or kill anyone as the latest two missiles hit apartment buildings, wounding eleven seriously, so there’s that.

Does Israel still have Soviet immigrant physicists driving taxis? At one point the surplus was so large…

I imagine a bunch moved into inventing the many improvements to the internet that we so enjoy today, but if Iran to actually succeed in killing any of Israel’s Dimona staff, the place could easily find replacements.

Kind of like the Plains Indians counting coup. You get style points even if you didn't cause any damage.

In his book "The Arab Mind", author Patai notes that in Arab culture, talking about a deed is the same as doing it. Ineffectual bombardment seems to work the same way. The fact that a missile was launched matters more than what it hit (if anything).
