2 The stupersportsbowl game commercials taught me that having a neighborhood network video net linked to track the movements of anything outside is super cool and totally secure and if you are not interested in being part of the network you are a racist incel who poses as a super hero in public who is in need of a cinnamon scrub at a happy fun camp.

3 I don’t have a Ring, but the lady across the street probably does, so I’m covered. I’ll tell the police to talk to her. She’s not covered, but I am glad that she is investing in my security.

4 I have a front door with glass in it and half my house’s windows overlook the cul-de-saq, so we have Mark 1 eyeballs on the world whenever someone in the household looks out. In her last months my mother loved sitting at the front bay window, watching the street and speculating about the neighbours — it recalled how she had amused herself the six weeks in her youth in Amsterdam when she’d spent her days hiding from the Nazis in a wide Dutch roof gutter, three stories up, watching the world go by. After that she was taken in by a family on the far side of the country as a nanny-housemaid (which explained why she was there).
