6 Not just the Germans

The English word actually finds it's origins from the Afrikaans term Koncentrasie Camp (1899-1902). An invention of Lord Kitchener. Over 20,000 perished in 66 camps, mostly women and children. Some 30,000 of mixed race farm help also died in the camps. The graphic is from the camp cemetery at Kroonstad. The graves lie beneath the stones to prevent animals from digging and brush growth. Many bear only the inscription "Baba or Infant." The Jewish population did not escape internment.

while we did not intend to murder them all, more than 1800 of them died in captivity.
