Jet engines spin like a sumbitch. During takeoff, when a plane reaches flying speed, it rotates into a climb. Gyroscopic precession puts a huge twisting force on the pylon that mounts the engine to the wing.

tl;dr: The FAA is worried that the engines are going to fall off the MD-11s
