He opposed them so hard he flew in and met with ISIS and Al Nusra leaders.

2 The SDF Kurds in Syria are mostly communists, as far as I am aware, the devout Muslims among the population having joined ISIS, Al Nusra/HTS, and the paramilitaries on Turkey’s payroll. The only ones closer to us, culturally, in the Middle East are the Israelis; the SDF were very effective reversing the ISIS expansion, and they have continued the hunt ever since, despite being harried by Turkish forces, Al Nusra, and ISIS remnants.
