It is a valid assumption to assume criminals are usually armed. Plus, given there were 2 vs 1.

So yes, the shooting is justified and will likely deter a few future idiots & thieves.

2 Don't have to "assume" anything.
It Texas it is legal to use deadly force in defense of property after dark.
And shooting doesn't deter thieves, because they're stupid. If they weren't stupid, they weren't be thieves. It's a shitty job that doesn't really pay that well.
They all get welfare anyway, how poor can they be?
