According to FlightAware, there were over 9,000 flight delays worldwide overnight on Saturday, including 640 into or out of the US. There were also 382 reported cancellations, with 181 into or out of the US.

3 Apparently Great Britain had a major shutdown. Their thoughts are of Putin because of the incursions in Estonia and Poland. I'm inclined to think our problems have a more sweet and sour flavor.

5 ..This sort of thing seems to be happening a lot lately.

Part of it is aging infrastructure, but cascading failure is baked into our air transport due to the hub and spoke architecture we use for routing. Great economies of scale, but any problem with the flow in or out of a hub jams up the whole system.
