4 I went through two full 24 hour days attempting to use FreeBSD in a manner I knew from the outset would not work:

Why can't you reliably reboot a freebsd computer with stripped drives?

Rebooting a FreeBSD computer with stripped drives is unreliable because a single failed drive in a striped array will cause the entire array to fail, and without a complete, working array, the system cannot find and load the operating system files it needs to boot. This is a fundamental risk of using RAID-0 (striping) without any mirroring or parity.
Here is a breakdown of the specific reasons for the boot failure.

As for a a bare metal server being old-fashioned, if it's stupid but it works and, it ain't stupid.

The issue was and lways will be RAID electronics, that traditional FreeBSD installations do not work with.

1. Stripped data is not redundant

2. The boot process is dependent on the root partition

3. The bootloader cannot load the necessary module
