5 This is one reason we still need battleships. Aircraft are good, and missiles are good, but nothing says "May I have your attention" like 16-inch shells falling on your ports, bridges, and other infrastructure from many miles away.

Can you imagine a half-dozen "Iowa" class battleships cruising along the coast of Gaza, saying "release the prisoners, or else"? Pulling up in the Straits of Hormuz with the message "Behave, or die"?

It's either that or ARCLIGHT strikes, and those are so impersonal. However, bad guys need to learn to be afraid of the US might again, and for that we have to HAVE might.

4. Wouldn't it be nice to curbstomp someplace like Venezuela and then when the world asks' "How are you going to fix it?", the President says, "We ain't. They were dumb enough to push it to this point, let them dig themselves out or find some other suckers to pay for it. We're done helping to rebuild nations that hate our guts."
