#4 The strongest rebuke so far came from Hesse state premier Rhein.

Merz new position on Israel was strongly supported by Saxony's state premier Kretschmer however.

Both premiers are members of Merz's party CDU.

I don't think anything will come of this, though.

The proverb "Pounce like a (Hessian or Bavarian) lion, and land like a rug." has so far accurately described non-leftist conservative 'rebellions' in formerly pro-Western center-right parties in Germany.
