A while back, somebody (the Freakonomics guys?) did a study on whether having an obviously "black" name on a resume was a handicap. If memory serves, it was. But I don't think the study controlled for having a weird name vs being raised by the sort of parents that would name a kid Dantavious.

Personal Anecdote: A work buddy once told of working as a telemarketer in Detroit. One day, he made a call and asked "Is this the such-and-such residence? I'd like to to speak to Orange Jello. The called party responded, "That's OrRANzhelo, you honky mother*bleep*er!"
