4 The Chinese strategy is to construct a series of island bases, bristling with weaponry, and use these to exert control over the region. It's a good strategy. We would do well to copy it.

6 IIRC the Japanese occupied a lot of islands in early 1942. Not so many in late 1945.

7 Question: How exactly vunerable are these bases to storms? I mean one big Typhoon hitting a base dead-center would do how much damage to an artificial Island if it causes a surge of, say, 12 feet?

8 The Japanese are now fortifying their islands. Unfortunately for the Chinese, many of them are in the first island chain and the PLAN will have to run a gauntlet of Japanese anti-ship missiles to get to open water.
