Day 7: Shin Bet agents participating in interrogation of flydubai terrorist in UAE
|
[IsraelTimes] Source briefed on Emirati probe says Omani copilot considered trying to crash plane during a flight to Tel Aviv earlier this year, but opted not to; Trump ‘personally’ believes Iran responsible for attack attempt
Shin Bet agents are participating in the interrogation of the copilot who attempted to carry out a terror attack aboard a flydubai flight last week, The Times of Israel has learned. Interrogators from Israel’s domestic security agency flew to the United Arab Emirates to participate in the questioning of Hamam al-Hammami,
…29 year old pilot with a complicated resumé as each employer noticed his extreme piety and fondness for the odder corners of the internet… in a development approved for publication on Monday by Israeli security officials. The Shin Bet has declined to comment so far.
The copilot, Omani national Hamam al-Hammami, has told UAE interrogators he planned to crash the flight into Ben Gurion Airport before he was hired by the Dubai-owned airline, according to two Israeli officials with knowledge of the probe.
A third source briefed on the UAE probe said al-Hammami also operated a flight to Tel Aviv earlier this year and had considered hijacking and crashing the plane then, but opted not to. It was not immediately clear why the co-pilot changed his mind on that previous flight, although the co-pilot is thought to have known someone onboard, the source said.
The two Israeli officials said the co-pilot told interrogators that he had applied for a job at Dubai state-owned flydubai after searching for airlines that fly to Tel Aviv.
The third source said Israel was being continuously updated about the investigation from the UAE.
Disaster on board the Dubai-Tel Aviv flight was averted after passengers and crew subdued al-Hammami, who attacked the captain, Indian national Smit Machchhar,
…39, husband, father, Hindu Indian national from Mumbai who lives in Dubai as an Emirati citizen, and stone cold hero… with the aircraft’s crash axe. Machchhar survived the attack and has been hailed as a hero for managing to open the cockpit door. The plane was carrying more than 170 passengers and crew, most of them Israeli.
Israel has said it does not believe any other members of the flydubai aircrew were involved in al-Hammami’s attempt to crash the plane, according to Channel 12 news.
Crew members were questioned by Sherlocks in the UAE, and they concluded that the other crew members were not involved. The aircrew members were questioned at Israel’s request, after some passengers reported what they considered strange behavior by other aircrew members. The crew members acknowledged they were shocked and rattled by the unfolding attack.
Israel, the report said, shares the UAE Sherlocks’ conclusions.
The network also reported, without sourcing, that the Omani copilot told his interrogators that he was acting "in Dire Revenge for Gazoo
...Hellhole adjunct to Israel and Egypt's Sinai Peninsula, inhabited by Gazooks. The place was acquired in the wake of the 1967 War and then presented to Paleostinian control in 2006 by Ariel Sharon, who had entered his dotage. It is currently ruled with a rusty iron fist by Hamas with about the living conditions you'd expect. It periodically attacks the Hated Zionist Entity whenever Iran needs a ruckus created or the hard boyz get bored, getting thumped by the IDF in return. The ruling turbans then wave the bloody shirt and holler loudly about oppression and disproportionate response ...
," and "I wanted to die as a martyr."
Instead he’ll probably spend the rest of his life in a UAE prison, and what a delightful thought that is. Channel 12 also quoted two sources saying a Mosssd

official told Israeli cabinet ministers on Sunday that the al-Hammami made brief visits in recent years to several countries that are hostile to Israel.
"We are checking whether, during those visits, an individual or an organization of any kind activated or recruited him," a Mossad representative was quoted as saying.
The copilot’s precise motive and whether he acted alone remained under investigation.
US President Donald Trump
...So far he's been unkillable, and they've tried....
however, when asked Wednesday if he thought Iran
...a theocratic Shiite state divided among the Medes, the Persians, and the (Arab) Elamites. Formerly a fairly civilized nation ruled by a Shah, it became a victim of Islamic revolution in 1979. The nation is today noted for spontaneously taking over other countries' embassies, maintaining whorehouses run by clergymen, involvement in international drug trafficking, and financing sock puppet militias to extend the regime's influence. The word Iran is a cognate form of Aryan. The abbreviation IRGC is the same idea as Stürmabteilung (or SA). The term Supreme Guide is a the modern version form of either Duce or Führer or maybe both. was responsible for the flydubai attack, responded, "I do. I personally do."
Trump did not elaborate on how he reached that assessment and said Iran would be hit "very hard" if it was found to have been involved.
But US Vice President JD Vance said he had not seen conclusive evidence tying Iran to the attack, saying that he would defer to Central Intelligence Agency Director John Ratcliffe and other officials.
"I don’t want to get ahead of any announcements there," Vance added. "It’s certainly something we’re looking at, but I wouldn’t say I’ve seen anything conclusive just yet."
Asked about whether he is concerned about foreign pilots flying in the US, Vance said, "Anytime you have any person coming from outside the United States, you’ve got to be extra careful that that person is actually a good human being and is going to contribute to American society.
"That’s the story of the 9/11 terrorist attack — We brought a lot of people into the United States of America who shouldn’t have been here and certainly shouldn’t have been flying planes," he claimed.
"The interesting thing about that (flydubai) story is we knew that guy was a problem — meaning not United States intelligence — but if you look historically, that person should not have been flying an airline," Vance continued.
"So we’re certainly looking at our procedures within the United States to make sure that people who are obviously flight risks are not getting behind the wheel of an airplane," he added.
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has said the copilot underwent Islamist radicalization, but added that it was too early to determine whether Iran was behind the attack.
In fact, the Omani pilot was a Muslim terrorist whom Israeli authorities have confirmed received jihadi radicalization, and it looks as if he did target a plane full of Israelis specifically because he wants Muslim Arabs to recolonize Israel.
Guy Azriel, a diplomatic correspondent for i24News, posted the update on October 1. “An Emirati source reveals that among the belongings of the Omani co-pilot were leaflets and publications from ‘Free Palestine’ groups, as well as pro-Palestinian material,” he wrote on X.
Azriel continued, “The pilot had repeatedly expressed support for the Palestinians and hostility toward Israel. This is consistent with the broader investigation, which is examining the co-pilot’s Islamic radicalisation and possible terrorist motives.”
Israel was ready to shoot down flydubai flight, scrambled jets before calling them off — report
[IsraelTimes] Israeli sources tell CBS News that Israel was ready to shoot down flydubai Flight 1073 with all passengers onboard after the Omani copilot attacked the captain, scrambling fighter jets before calling them off as the plane went to make an emergency landing in Saudi Arabia.
The sources say that as part of a protocol for a potential 9/11-style incident, the Israeli Air Force sought to contact the cockpit after the plane made a sharp plunge, but didn’t receive an answer. A committee formed in advanced was then swiftly convened and a command center was set up, as fighter jets were scrambled and Israel closed its airspace, according to the report.
The warplanes were called back however once Israel realized that the plane was turning to Saudi Arabia, which had scrambled its own fighter jets.
The sources add that if the flight got closer, Israel would have dispatched planes into Jordan’s airspace to investigate. The IAF pilots would have then sought to get as close to the cockpit as they could in an effort to establish visual contact and size up the situation, before doing likewise for the cabin to determine if there was any panic among the passengers.
After checking in on the plane, the IAF would update the committee, which the sources say would in turn contact the defense minister and prime minister if the plane had been hijacked and the terrorists weren’t responding. Ultimately, the decision to shoot down the plane would rest with the prime minister, an outcome the sources quoted by CBS News say would’ve been preferable than having it crash into Ben Gurion Airport, the Azrieli Center in Tel Aviv or another “high-value target.”
