2 Allow me to explain a problem with the Saudis:

During Desert Storm, the various Allied air force chiefs met every day to review the previous days' missions. One morning, it was brough to CENTAF's attention that some Saudi Tornado crews were salvoing their bombs short of the targets, and then turning around and going home to report their targets hit.

CENTAF tried being delicate about the matter, not wanting to flatly accuse the Saudis of cowardice. The Saudi AF rep nodded, smiled, and said it would be taken care of, and of course nothing happened.

This went on for a few days until CENTAF came up with an idea. They printed out the usual morning briefings, but the one for Saudi had something extra: a statement explaining every single incident observed above, with a promise to forward the next one to CENTCOM (Gen. Schwartzkopf).

According to CENTAF, the Saudi general turned white, then green, and sweating profusely...while no one else said a word. At the end of the briefing, the Saudi general blew through the door as quickly as he could. From that day forward, every single Saudi mission pressed on to their targets, through to the end of the war.

They are, sadly, cowards with exquisite toys. The only truly competent KSA forces are the National Guard - not an NG in the sense we have one, but a couple of brigades whose sole purpose is to protect the House of Al-Saud. Their leadership is frequently hereditary; the first SNG commanders were drawn from the forces that the al-Sauds conquered the kingdom with.

And they ain't going anywhere except Riyadh.
