4 In 1978, I lived in Morocco working on the design of a railroad from Marrakesh into the port of Layoun, smack in the middle of former Spanish Sahara.

The Moroccans claimed it was always part of Morocco, before the colonial occupation. And Algeria was supporting the separatists even then.
