5 I disagree, DooDahMan. Hamas split off, fully formed, from the Muslim Brotherhood in Egypt and moved north to Gaza in the 1980s because they wanted to kill Joooos instead of taking the slower politics-and-charity route the Brotherhooders running the thing in Egypt insisted on.

Israel tried the ancient tactic of dividing their enemies to weaken them, which worked for a while. The alternative was to let the Soviet- and West- supported PLO get ever stronger, in which case something like 10/7 would have been planned in the West Bank and come from both sides at once instead of only from Gaza… and probably years sooner.

Sometimes the only choice is between bad and worse, or so it seems to me.
