1 The destruction of what we hold dear, a very obvious prelude to communism.

Historically, the destruction of cultural heritage has often been driven by political motives, especially in communist revolutions. As noted in studies of mass atrocities, such destruction can be linked to war crimes and crimes against humanity, especially when it serves to erase a people’s history and identity Getty. Communist regimes have sometimes used cultural erasure to consolidate power, remove competing ideologies, and create a unified, ideologically pure society. Much more at the link found here.

Will the historic 'Washington and Lee University' be Spanberger's next target ?

2 I used to live in Fredericksburg, VA. US Route 1 runs through the town, and is (was?) known as Jefferson Davis Highway. I wonder if that has changed.

3 Washington & Lee University is my alma mater. The school's name has been under attack since the early woke/cancel days. I half-joked we would become known as '& University` after eliminating both of these controversial namesakes. We weathered the first storm (renaming Lee Chapel, relegating all Confederate history to the basement of said Chapel), but we always knew they'd be back for more.

5 n July 2017, Spanberger announced her candidacy for the United States House of Representatives in Virginia's 7th congressional district in the 2018 election against incumbent Republican Dave Brat, a former Tea Party movement member.
Today, the Jewish Democratic Council of America (JDCA) announced its endorsement of Rep. Abigail Spanberger for Governor of Virginia. This endorsement follows JDCA’s successful efforts to mobilize voters in the Wisconsin Supreme Court race earlier this month.

Rep. Abigail Spanberger, the Democratic candidate for Governor of Virginia, responded:

“At a time when we are seeing a rise in hate – and violence – directed at our Jewish neighbors across our Commonwealth and the United States, we must continue to stand with and defend Jewish communities to combat hatred and antisemitism in all forms. As governor, I will always work to ensure that Virginia is a place where all families can feel safe and thrive,” said Spanberger. “I’m grateful for the Jewish Democratic Council of America’s work to combat antisemitism, defend Virginians’ civil liberties, and protect our democracy. I am thankful to have their support to serve as the next Governor of Virginia.”

6 When I was growing up in Arlington in the late 50's there was a confederate soldier statue in Alexandria, on Rte 1, Jeff Davis Highway, that faced south to Richmond, and reminded everyone of the confederate past of the city and state. As soon as Biden and the progressives took office, the war on the Confederacy ignited in a wave of racial bigotry and smug virtue signaling. Those urges lie just beneath the surface of the socialists still...

"The bronze Confederate statue known as Appomattox was removed from the intersection of Prince and Washington Streets in Old Town Alexandria, Virginia, on June 2, 2020. Erected in 1889 by the United Daughters of the Confederacy (UDC), it depicted a bowed, unarmed soldier facing south and was removed due to its controversy and to prevent it from becoming a target for protesters.

7 Lee should be remembered for what he did after the war. He set an example of 'its over' and get on with it, avoiding a protracted guerrilla war that it could have devolved into. The few that did west of the Mississippi devolved to common banditry.
