7 Of course we don’t know the whole story, but the baby could have come as much as three months early, and mixed race babies tend to come out lighter than they will be later. Also, mixed race babies’ skin colour is the emergent result of all the previous ancestors, not just mommy and daddy, which is how an unknown number were able to pass in the bad old days. I have friends from Eritrea whose family photos show the entire gamut from white to deep black, and from sharp caucasian features to decidedly sub-Saharan.

But how many nineteen year olds know that nowadays?
