Speaking during the women’s event Radiant Conversations, Bottoms said, “As black women, we are conditioned. Girl, you can’t depend on anybody else. If you don’t do it for yourself, ain’t nobody else gonna do it for you.”
“And in many ways, that is a post-traumatic slave mentality,” Bottoms claimed. “That it is – it is not just on our backs. That this is a burden that we can all carry. It’s a win for all of us. And so it is just remembering that this is a sisterhood, that this is about community. It’s not about going fast.”
Bottoms continued: “It’s about taking others with you, and I’m just – I’m so grateful to have learned those lessons and to be able to apply them in this season.”

Jared Golden of Maine and Marie Gluesenkamp Perez of Washington broke with their party Sept. 1 to advance a procedural rule allowing the House to consider Golden’s Northeast Lobsterman Protection Act and a resolution condemning socialism. The rule passed 210–208, with five Republicans opposed, making their votes decisive.
House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries and other Democratic leaders accused them of blindsiding the caucus, called their decision a "significant breach of trust" requiring a "serious response" and asked the Committee on Caucus Rules to review the matter.
Think about the political message Democrats sent: Helping Maine lobstermen fight burdensome regulations and allowing Congress to vote on a resolution condemning socialism are now acts of political blasphemy inside the Democratic Party.
Democrats will insist their outrage is about House procedure and not lobstermen. That distinction doesn’t matter to most Americans who expect their representatives to protect their livelihoods. Golden co-sponsored legislation to protect Maine’s half billion-dollar lobster industry, which supports thousands of workers and coastal communities.

Although FEMA is under DHS, a federal law adopted after Hurricane Katrina in 2005 states that the department "may not substantially or significantly reduce (FEMA's) authorities, responsibilities, or functions."
Illston said the department violated the law last year when it sought to stop FEMA from renewing the temporary contracts of thousands of on-call reservists who respond to disasters.
"There is no evidence in the record reflecting reasoned decision-making for this about-face or for the subsequent conditions DHS placed on FEMA’s renewal authority," Illston wrote.
Illston's ruling did not include remedies or penalties, noting that those would be addressed in a separate ruling next month.
The judge said the parties have until Oct. 9 to submit briefings on "what relief remains outstanding" in this case.
The unions that sued argued that the planned cuts are unlawful because they would undermine FEMA's core disaster‑response mission, were not approved by Congress and were ordered by then-Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem instead of FEMA officials.

Carlson was responding to Rogers, who had called El-Sayed's attitude toward 9/11 "disgusting" and said it made the Democrat "completely unfit to serve in public office."
Carlson instead turned the accusation around.
"Understanding that the Bush administration was wrong to kill hundreds of thousands of people and waste trillions of dollars in Iraq, even though, again, Iraq did not do 9/11, is disgusting?" he asked.
"We are really not sure who Mike Rogers is, but if anyone in Michigan’s Senate race is ’unfit to serve in public office,’ it is him."
Look, we can all agree that the neoconservative foreign-policy establishment has a lot to answer for. You can believe the Iraq War was a catastrophic mistake. You can despise the Bush-era foreign-policy establishment. You can think Rogers represents exactly the kind of Republican national-security thinking the party should have left behind years ago.
