Tax-deductible 'charities' served as pipelines to Democrat voter registration: report
[Just The News] Leftist nonprofits are using pass-through organizations to boost voter registration for demographics most likely to vote for Democrats, a new report alleges.

The report, titled "The ’Charities’ influencing elections: 2024 and beyond," written by the Capital Research Center (CRC), found that multiple left-leaning 501(c)(3)s, which are prohibited from engaging in any political campaign for or against a candidate and whose donations are tax deductible, acted as conduits for 501(c)(4)s, which are permitteThose tax-exempt organizations spent $638 million during the 2024 election cycle, according to the report, to register voters most likely to vote for Democrats.

Three 501(c)(3)s – America Votes Education Fund (AVEF), Guarantee Our Votes Project (GOVP) and Democracy Matters Foundation – effectively routed their entire annual expenditure to affiliated 501(c)(4) organizations while conducting almost no independent program activityd to engage in direct partisan politics.

Virginia AG Launches Office To Protect Illegals And Bureaucrats From Federal Accountability
[The Federalist] On the same day Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) announced a successful operation to arrest more than 1,300 illegal aliens throughout Virginia and Maryland, Virginia Attorney General Jay Jones launched a legal team to stop federal activity in the commonwealth.

Jones’ "Legal Unit to Confront Unprecedented Trump Administration Overreach" covers more than just immigration enforcement, and will insert itself into issues including "federal funding, elections, healthcare, immigration, environmental protections, consumer issues, constitutional rights, tariffs and other economic policies, and the continuing fallout from DOGE’s cuts to the federal workforce.

"Virginia is a major hub of federal workers, with its northern region bordering Washington, D.C., and it houses the Department of War, CIA, TSA, and many more federal agencies. Many of those permanent, unaccountable bureaucrats become important constituents for Democrats and often help them carry the state.

Judge Halts Another Democrat Scheme To Rig State Congressional Maps
[Federalist] Democrats have done a lot of weaselly things in the pursuit of power, but their ploy to grab a congressional seat by a quick and crooked change to Maryland’s constitution is a real doozy.

A Maryland judge this week saw through the legally tortured redistricting scheme and put the kibosh on the hastily made ballot question.

Anne Arundel County Circuit Court Judge Robert J. Thompson on Wednesday enjoined the Maryland State Board of Elections from putting an amendment question on the Nov. 3 ballot that the legislature unlawfully conceived.

"Because the legislature did not follow the very laws it enacted, the court finds the enactment of HB2100 to be legally deficient," Thompson wrote in his pointed opinion. The Board of Elections immediately appealed the decision to the Maryland Supreme Court.

SHRUGGING OFF THE LAW
The rushed plan effectively seeks to wipe out the Old Line State’s sole Republican-held congressional district, just as Democrats tried and failed to do in Virginia earlier this year.

SEIU and CTA - A Billion A Year In Dues-The Actual Governors of California
[Townhall] The Most Powerful Special Interests in America Are Not Corporations. They’re Public-Sector Unions.

Unions are upheld by the Left, and even some on the Right, as a virtuous development in the American economy: a valiant protector of workers fighting for fairness and leverage in a sea of greedy corporations. But when it comes down to it, unions are no different from the corporations they fight against. They are self-serving entities that care first about preserving their own money, power, and influence. The real difference is that public-sector unions often operate as monopolies and are sustained, directly or indirectly, by taxpayer money in a way private businesses are not.

Nowhere is that clearer than in California, where, according to the Manhattan Institute’s City Journal, the ten largest public-sector unions collected more than $1 billion in member dues and fees in the year ending in 2024, much of it drawn from taxpayer-funded payrolls.

The ten unions analyzed by City Journal include the California Teachers Association (CTA), the California Nurses Association (CNA), and the California School Employees Association (CSEA). Together, they represent more than one million members and list more than 1,500 employees and officers tasked with administering the organizations, organizing workers, and advancing the unions’ interests.

These unions carry significant political weight. Their membership represents at least 6 percent of California’s 2024 general-election electorate and at least 29 percent of Democrat primary voters, making them a formidable organized bloc in the state’s left-wing politics. The ten unions also reported at least $29 million in political and lobbying expenditures in 2024.

And, as usual, that political spending is not detached from their institutional interests. Consider California’s proposed one-time billionaire tax, sponsored by Service Employees International Union-United Healthcare Workers West. Most of the revenue would flow toward healthcare services, including Medi-Cal, programs that fund hospitals and other workplaces where the union can organize employees and expand its membership. In other words, the union is lobbying for a tax that would also strengthen the industry from which it draws workers, dues, and political power.

This is the cycle. Unions lobby for policies that advance their political and institutional interests. Those bills and regulations pass, funneling more taxpayer money into an industry or government program. That expansion gives the unions more members, more dues, more benefits, and more influence, resources they then pour back into political campaigns and lobbying efforts to repeat the process.

And this is what few people are prepared to admit: public-sector unions are among the country’s most powerful special-interest groups, often wielding more direct influence over state policy than the large corporations and “Big Tech” companies Democrats routinely denounce. They are the ultimate monopolies, the ultimate corporate lobbying groups, and the ultimate example of a greedy organization looking out for little beyond its own self-interest. At least a private business must persuade people to buy a product or service.

Jews at US teachers unions subject to discrimination, forced to self-censor: report

[IsraelTimes] Anti-Defamation League survey finds antisemitism, hostility to Israel’s existence in union spaces, leading to alienation and fear in Jewish educators.

Teachers unions are significant because they influence educators and the children they teach, and hold significant political power through activities such as campaign endorsements, curriculum decisions and contract negotiations.

The study added to concerns about antisemitism and anti-Zionism in US schools, where there have been repeated incidents targeting Jews in recent years.

The ADL study surveyed 307 Jewish members of US teachers unions about their experiences in the past 12 months.

#1  The industrial union adversarial model is problematic for public-sector workers--the result is inevitably adversarial, inescapably political, and as experience shows, often becomes a Praetorian Guard.

#4  State employees should have their pay raises capped to the increase that the citizens of that state attain. If the citizens GPI doesn't go up their pay/benefits don't rise either. I'd say you could do the same of the pols, but I don't believe in Santa Clause or the Easter Bunny. Besides it just another introduction to bribes, aka reelection monies.

#6  Besoeker : The industrial labor union model is designed to be an us-against-them vs the owners of the factories. That adversarial model doesn't seem quite appropriate when the adversary is the rest of the population.
The union's objectives are to maximize the income for the members, and the number of members. Translated into the public sphere, this means expanding the government--which is a political issue, and means that a public sector union will take (predictable) sides in some important political questions.
In practice (e.g. California, Greece, etc), the union, by virtue of its control over public services (and massive income), is able to select its own candidates, just like the old Roman praetorian guard. Try and get a non-teacher-union candidate on the school board some time. The union mobilizes its members, and in low turnout elections, that's enough to swing them.

#7  The union mobilizes its members...

Where I grew up, teacher strikes were a regular event, despite it being illegal for public employees to strike. To end a strike, a judge could issue a back-to-work order, but no one ever did since next election they would be targeted by not just the teacher's union, but all the other public employee unions acting together.
