Texas Democrat U.S. Senate candidate James Talarico said many white churches do not reflect the Jesus described in the Gospels and argued that black churches have a "deeper and more accurate" understanding of what it means to follow Jesus.
Speaking on the September 2024 podcast titled "Holy Conversation: Faith and Politics," Talarico said too many white churches focus on the afterlife instead of on "freeing the oppressed and healing the sick and feeding the hungry."
"Too many white churches are focused on the afterlife and not really much on this life," Talarico said. "In my opinion, a lot of white churches don’t resemble the Jesus we meet in the Gospels of being out in the world, of freeing the oppressed and healing the sick and feeding the hungry."
Talarico also praised black churches, saying they have a better understanding of what it means to follow Jesus than many white churches.
"And in the black churches that I’ve been in, they, I think because of their position in this country historically and currently, have a much deeper and more accurate understanding of what it means to follow Jesus in the 21st century," Talarico continued. "So I’m glad that we are learning from black churches. I know my church has up in North Austin, and it sounds like this church is."
Talarico has criticized Christianity. Earlier this year, the Texas state representative and Presbyterian seminarian told The New Yorker that Christianity is the "most violent" religion and has caused "damage" to Islam.
He has opposed President Donald Trump’s immigration restrictions on people from terrorism-prone countries and expressed support for Muslim communities. During remarks to the Pakistani American Council of Texas, Talarico condemned Trump’s restrictions on travel from countries identified as hotspots for radical Islamic terrorism, calling the president "a threat to all of us" and saying he stood with his "Muslim brothers and sisters."

Stephen A. Smith is offering criticism of the multi-million-dollar net worths of two recent former presidents while arguing that the leaders of the country should only prosper financially if Americans are also doing so.
The sports commentator and host of the "Straight Shooter" podcast weighed in on any profits President Donald Trump is making while serving in the nation’s highest office.
"I don't give a damn what money politicians slide into their own pockets from time to time," Smith said on Wednesday’s episode of his podcast. "If the American people are prospering, get yours. It's a capitalistic society."
Smith went on to cast doubt on how former President Bill Clinton obtained his multi-million dollar net worth.
"I’ll confess something to ya’ll," Smith continued. "Clinton was a lawyer in Arkansas. Grew up poor, relatively broke. How the hell him and the Clinton Foundation is worth hundreds of millions of dollars beat me."
Smith also pointed to former President Barack Obama’s similar high net worth.
"Barack Obama was a community organizer who became the president of the United States and, last time I checked, that salary ain't over $450,000, if I remember correctly," Smith said.
"I got to double check that," he added. "How the hell you depart from office worth over $200 million?"
According to an investigation conducted by Forbes, both Bill and Hillary Clinton have netted approximately $240 million since leaving office in 2021.
Bill Clinton is reportedly responsible for the majority of the couple’s earnings, raking in $189 million by authoring books and $106 million in paid speeches.
A similar investigation by Forbes revealed Obama gained a net worth of about $20 million throughout his 12 years working as both a senator and serving as president, raising his net worth to around $70 million in 2024.
Fox News Digital reached out to both Obama and Clinton for comment.
Smith went on to tell his audience that while he does not mind if politicians are earning high profits if the American people are also doing well financially, he does not believe that is currently the situation within the country.
"I'm cool with it if the American people are prospering, but last time I checked, that's not the case," Smith said.

The Overton window is the range of subjects and arguments politically acceptable to the mainstream population at a given time.[1] It is also known as the window of discourse.[2] The key to the concept is that the window changes over time; it can shift, shrink, or expand.[3] It exemplifies "the slow evolution of societal values and norms".[3]
The term is named after the American policy analyst and former senior vice president at Mackinac Center for Public Policy, Joseph Overton, who proposed that the political viability of an idea depends mainly on whether it falls within an acceptability range, rather than on the individual preferences of politicians using the term or concept.[3][4] According to Overton, the window frames the range of policies that a politician may recommend without appearing too extreme, in order to gain or keep public office given the climate of public opinion at that particular time.[5]

[FOX] U.S. District Judge Emmet Sullivan, a Clinton-appointed judge, issued the order after granting a preliminary injunction sought by independent journalist Katie Phang, who sued Acting Attorney General Todd Blanche in April. She alleged that the Justice Department failed to comply with the Epstein Files Transparency Act that was signed last year when she requested several documents. The law requires the government to make Epstein-related investigative records public while allowing limited redactions to protect victims and other legally protected information.
More than half of the six million files have been made publicly available, with the remaining files withheld because of legal privilege protections or because they are duplicates, according to the Justice Department. But the department has faced growing criticism over the scope of its redactions, with critics arguing it has concealed information that should be public under the law.
In a 48-page memorandum, Sullivan ordered the Justice Department to either disclose less-redacted versions of several key Epstein records or justify the redactions. The documents covered by the order include eight emails with hidden senders or recipients; a 2007 draft federal indictment — with the names of potential co-conspirators redacted — that was never filed; and a 2019 email referencing alleged co-conspirators whose identities were obscured.
Among the redacted records is an email — with the recipient's identity concealed — in which Epstein wrote that he "loved" a torture video he watched. During the litigation, Blanche suggested the recipient was wealthy Middle Eastern businessman Sultan Ahmed bin Sulayem.
The order also covers FBI records summarizing 2019 interviews with a woman who made allegations involving President Donald Trump. In the FBI's interview summary, the woman alleged she met Epstein when she was 14 or 15 years old and that he later introduced her to Trump, whom she accused of sexually assaulting her in explicit detail. Those claims are uncorroborated, and the president has denied the allegations. Trump was friends with the late financier in the 1990s and early 2000s but cut ties after a falling-out in the mid-2000s. Like 2006.
The Justice Department is also required to issue a complete log of every redaction made in records released under the Epstein Files Transparency Act.

The 13-story building is home to Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, her 26 commissioners and about 3,000 staff. Von der Leyen works on the 13th floor, and most of her commissioners’ offices are housed on floors eight or above.
Belgium and much of Europe have been sweltering for the past week, with record-breaking temperatures.
As temperatures climbed earlier in the week, the Commission provided "guidance" from their cool air-conditioned offices to sweltering employees who do not deserve to be as comfortable as them, suggesting that these lesser people should try "avoiding going outside at the hottest times of day, drinking water regularly and starting work earlier."

On Wednesday, the House passed the “North Carolina Border Protection Act” (SB 153) into law over the governor’s objections. After the legislature passed the bill at the end of 2024, Gov. Stein vetoed it in June of last year. The bill then spent the following year going in and out of debate before finally finding enough votes to override the veto this week, according to the Carolina Journal.
The new law strengthens the relationship between state law enforcement and federal immigration officials by requiring state policing agencies to work with ICE and other immigration officials and to observe federal immigration detainers of criminal illegals. In addition, the law will hold to account local cities or counties with policies that give illegals sanctuary, sanctioning them for violating the requirements to cooperate with the feds.
Republican State Senator Phil Berger, who sponsored the bill, praised the veto override vote and said on social media that the legislature was taking “decisive action to end sanctuary policies and tackle illegal immigration.”
The Franklin County GOP added that the newly minted law will “save lives.”

Mamdani's political clout was on display Tuesday night after all three House candidates he endorsed — Darializa Avila Chevalier, Brad Lander and Claire Valdez — won their Democratic primaries in New York, beating out more moderate Democrats.
