Belarusian hackers calling themselves cyberpartisans announced in the summer of 2022 that they had gained access to "thousands of hours" of audio recordings from hacked Ministry of Internal Affairs servers, made between January 2020 and June 2021. This included wiretaps of the Russian embassy and consulate in Belarus.
As evidence of the leak, the "cyber partisans" published recordings of calls to the Russian embassy in Minsk on their Telegram channel. They also noted that wiretapping embassy employees could violate the 1961 Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations, which stipulates the inviolability of diplomatic correspondence.
Hackers previously announced that they had attacked the servers of Belarusian Railways and Belaruskali, as well as hacked the databases of the Belarusian Ministry of Internal Affairs and the State Traffic Inspectorate.
In Belarus, groups of citizens operating through the Telegram channel "Cyberpartisans" have been recognized as extremist groups and the channel's activities have been banned.
