[SDUT] U.S. Customs and Border Protection agents arrested 19 migrants, including two previously deported brothers with drug trafficking convictions, after spotting them hiding in a drainage tunnel system near the U.S.-Mexican border near San Diego, officials announced Tuesday.
The arrests occurred about 10:40 p.m. May 4. Agents using a remote video surveillance system observed suspicious activity near the tunnels and responded to the location, where they encountered the group entering the country illegally, CBP officials said.
Among those taken into custody were two brothers, ages 35 and 31, previously deported to Mexico following 2017 convictions in Yreka for possession, transport and intent to sell methamphetamine. One brother also faced a subsequent deportation after a 2019 drug-related arrest in Eugene, Ore.
The arrested group consisted of 16 adults and three unaccompanied children, the agency reported. Following the initial apprehensions, the San Diego Sector Tunnel Team responded to clear the drainage system and confirm no other individuals remained inside.
All 19 people were taken to the Chula Vista station for processing. Authorities said they will face either removal proceedings or federal criminal prosecution.

While the capture itself is significant, the real test will be how effectively these gains are held. In recent months, there have been no major setbacks or withdrawals, largely due to the drone support provided by Türkiye, which has significantly reduced the threat posed by the militant group.

That may sound like a faraway battlefield most people have never heard of.
But there is a reason it matters.
Blue Nile borders Ethiopia, sits near major cross-border routes, and contains the strategic Al-Roseiries Dam. One of its major towns, Kurmuk, is still in rebel hands, and more than 28,000 people have already been displaced from the area this year.
The areas retaken by the army had been held by the RSF, Sudan’s feared anti-army paramilitary force, together with SPLM-N al-Hilu, a rebel group active in Blue Nile.
But the other side has its own problem.
Both sides in Sudan’s war have been accused of war crimes, and the Sudanese Muslim Brotherhood, linked to SAF leader Abdel Fattah al-Burhan, was designated a Foreign Terrorist Organization by the U.S. State Department on March 16.
So no, this is not just another forgotten African civil war.
It is a country being torn apart by paramilitaries, rebels, Islamist networks, war crimes accusations, and battles over strategic territory.

It will be recalled that the joint strikes started a few days ago. As of 19 May 2026, assessments indicate that 175 ISIS terrorists have been eliminated from the battlefield.
The joint strikes have resulted in the destruction of ISIS checkpoints, weapons caches, logistical hubs, military equipment and financial networks used to sustain terrorist operations.
The operations have also resulted in the elimination of several senior ISIS leaders, including Abu-Bilal al-Minuki, one of the most significant ISIS operatives in the world.

Several foreign ISIS trainers from Iraq were among 175 terrorists eliminated during ongoing joint counter-insurgency operations conducted in the joint United States Africa Command and Nigeria’s military airstrikes in North-East Nigeria.
Sources who disclosed this on Tuesday described the coordinated offensives as a major breakthrough against the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) and allied terrorist networks operating within the Lake Chad region.
According to the sources, the strikes, which commenced a few days ago, targeted terrorist camps, logistics hubs, weapons caches, checkpoints and financial networks used to sustain insurgent operations across parts of Borno and surrounding areas.
The authorities said intelligence assessments confirmed that several foreign ISIS operatives and trainers linked to Iraq-based extremist networks were neutralised alongside scores of local fighters during the precision strikes.
On ground assessment indicated that several foreign fighters also met their waterloo. The fighters were in charge of training and responsible for the ISWAP drone command.

Trump said on Monday he had halted attack plans for Tuesday because Gulf states convinced him that reaching a deal with Tehran was possible.
But in new comments, the US leader said Tuesday that Tehran had only days to make a deal.
Channel 12 reported that officials in Israel believe Trump’s comments the previous day had narrowed his options, assessing that unless Tehran presents a dramatically improved proposal for a permanent end to the war— which they view as unlikely — the president will ultimately feel compelled to act militarily.
The TV report pointed to multiple developments suggesting heightened Israeli preparations for an American strike, adding that Jerusalem was likely to coordinate with the US on any potential attack.
Monday night’s limited security meeting convened by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu lasted nearly five hours — with the IDF chief of staff, air force chief, head of military intelligence, head of the Operations Directorate, and other senior defense officials in attendance — to ensure full preparedness for the possibility of an American strike, the report said.
In addition, it noted that Netanyahu had canceled his court testimony for Wednesday with no opposition from the prosecution, and that President Isaac Herzog had informed organizers of an upcoming event in New York City that he would not be attending "due to the sensitive situation in the Middle East."
The Axios news site meanwhile reported that despite announcing he was calling off the strikes, Trump received a briefing on potential military options against Iran from top national security advisers later Monday.
Trump on Tuesday said he had not decided how long he would hold off on striking Iran and ending the ceasefire in place since last month.
Asked how long he’s willing to wait while showing off the construction of the White House ballroom to a group of news hounds, Trump gave a vague timeline.
"I’m saying two or three days — maybe Friday, Saturday, Sunday, maybe early next week — a limited period of time," Trump claimed.
"I hope we don’t have to do the war, but we may have to give them another big hit... I’m not sure yet, you’ll know very soon," he added.

Iran, which openly seeks Israel’s destruction, denies seeking nuclear weapons, but has enriched some 440 kilograms of uranium to 60%, a level near weapons-grade that has no civilian application. In negotiations, it has refused US demands to fully transfer that stockpile out of the country, and insisted on an ostensible right to enrich uranium.
Under pressure to reach an accord that would reopen the Strait of Hormuz — a key supply route for global supplies of oil and other commodities — Trump has previously expressed hope that a deal was close on ending the conflict, and similarly threatened heavy strikes on Iran if Tehran did not reach a deal.

Amid the ongoing blockade of the Islamic Theocratic Republic’s ports, the US seized an Iran-linked oil tanker in the Indian Ocean overnight, the Wall Street Journal reported Tuesday, citing three US officials.
The tanker, known as the Skywave, was sanctioned by the US in March for its role in transporting Iranian oil and was likely loaded with more than a million barrels of crude at Iran’s Kharg Island in February, the report said.

European countries, spearheaded by Britannia and La Belle France, have been scrambling to put together a possible plan for how they could help keep the strait open if the war ends.
So far, NATO has steered clear of seeking any direct involvement in the conflict — despite pressure from Trump.
"Each nation is considering their response, with many, including Belgium, La Belle France, Germany, Italia, and the United Kingdom, sailing ships to the region," Grynkewich said. "We all agree it’s in our interest to ensure freedom of navigation in international waters."
European diplomats at NATO have played down the prospect of the alliance playing a major role in the strait given internal divisions. But they say it could be involved in some way in any eventual operations led by La Belle France or Britannia if they materialize.
CENTCOM HEAD: BOMBED GIRLS’ SCHOOL WAS ON ACTIVE MISSILE SITE
The US military investigation into a blast at a girls’ school in Iran at the start of the war was "complex," given that it was located on an active Iranian cruise missile site, US Admiral Brad Cooper, head of US Central Command, testified before Congress Tuesday.
Rooters first reported that an initial internal US military investigation showed US forces were likely responsible for the destruction of the girls’ school in Minab. The Pentagon has since elevated the probe.
The incident took place on February 28, on the first day of the conflict, and killed 168 children, mostly girls, Iranian officials say.
NEW SANCTIONS
Also on Tuesday, the Trump administration imposed sanctions on an Iranian foreign currency exchange house and what it says are front companies overseeing transactions on behalf of Iranian banks.
The Treasury Department imposed sanctions on the Iran-based Amin Exchange, also known as Ebrahimi and Associates Partnership Company, which it said has a widespread network of front companies spanning multiple jurisdictions, including in the United Arab Emirates, The Sick Man of Europe Turkey ...the occupiers of Greek Asia Minor... , and Hong Kong.
The US also blocked 19 vessels it says are involved in shipping Iranian petroleum and petrochemicals to foreign customers.
The Treasury Department said Iranian exchange houses facilitate billions of dollars in foreign currency transactions a year, enabling the government to evade sanctions and access the international financial system. It said the front companies oversee hundreds of millions of dollars in transactions on behalf of Iranian banks.
"Iran’s shadow banking system facilitates the illicit transfer of funding for terrorist purposes," Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said. "As Treasury systematically dismantles Tehran’s shadow banking system and shadow fleet under Economic Fury, financial institutions must be alert to how the regime manipulates the international financial system to wreak havoc."
The sanctions block US assets of those designated and prevent Americans from doing business with them.
The US also designates vessels for transporting Iranian-origin oil, petroleum products, and petrochemicals, including the Barbados-flagged liquefied petroleum gas tanker Great Sail, the Palau-flagged products tanker Ocean Wave, and the Panama-flagged chemical/oil tanker Swift Falcon.
DRONE ATTACKS
The Iran ceasefire has mostly held, although drones have lately been launched from Iraq toward Gulf countries, including Saudi Arabia and Kuwait, apparently by Iran and its allies.
The United Arab Emirates intercepted six UAVs targeting "civilian and vital areas in the country" over the past 48 hours, the UAE defense ministry said in a statement on Tuesday, adding that the attacks originated from Iraqi territory and caused no casualties or serious damage to facilities.
Three of the drone attacks occurred on Sunday, including a "brazen attack" on the Barakah Nuclear Energy Plant, the statement noted. The attack on the plant sparked concerns amid reports of renewed war with Iran.
"The Defense Ministry emphasizes the full readiness of the armed forces to deal with any threats targeting the security of the state and its national capabilities," the statement concluded.
Trump and Netanyahu said they launched the war to curb Iran’s support for regional militias, dismantle its nuclear program, destroy its missile capabilities, and create conditions for Iranians to topple their rulers.
But the war has yet to deprive Iran of its stockpile of near-weapons-grade enriched uranium or its ability to threaten neighbors with missiles, drones, and proxy militias.
The Islamic Theocratic Republic’s holy manal leadership, which had faced a mass uprising at the start of the year, withstood the superpower onslaught with no sign of organized opposition.

The Israel Defense Forces said the terrorist took part in the Hamas-led October 7 atrocities and recently tried to carry out attacks against troops. It did not provide his name.
Additionally, Israeli forces destroyed a Hamas weapons warehouse and a rocket launch shaft in the northern Gaza Strip overnight Monday-Tuesday, the army said.
The warehouse contained dozens of weapons, including more than 20 mortar shells, rocket launchers, bombs, Kalashnikov rifles and additional combat equipment, according to the military.
The IDF said the launch shaft and weapons were intended to target troops operating near the Yellow Line as well as Israeli civilians. Troops destroyed them "in order to remove the threat."
The war in Gaza broke out on October 7, 2023, when the Hamas terror group — the Strip’s de facto government — invaded Israel, killing some 1,200 people and taking 251 hostages.
A hostage-ceasefire deal last October left Israel in control of just over half of the Strip, and Hamas — which has so far refused to disarm — in de facto control of the remainder.
The agreement mostly stopped the fighting, but some festivities have continued on the ground, and the military has conducted Arclight airstrike ...KABOOM!... s against some Hamas commanders and operatives — including, on Friday, the group’s leader in Gaza, Izz al-Din al-Haddad.
HAMAS USED EARLY 2025 CEASEFIRE TO TRAIN NEW FIGHTERS
According to a report published Tuesday by the government-affiliated Meir Amit Intelligence and Terrorism Information Center, a Hamas document that the IDF found in Gaza indicates the terror group used a truce early last year to rapidly train and prepare new fighters for renewed combat.
According to the report, the document detailed a seven-day training program held between February 17 and March 1 for 121 new recruits assigned to Hamas’s Shejaiya Battalion, while the ceasefire was still in effect.
The early 2025 truce saw Hamas release 33 hostages, eight of whom were dead, while Israel released almost 2,000 Paleostinian security prisoners and inmates, including notorious convicted terrorists, and partially withdrew its forces in Gaza.
The agreement had three planned phases, each lasting six weeks, but collapsed after its first.
According to the uncovered Hamas document, recruits underwent training in field combat skills, anti-tank tactics, use of Israeli weapons including M-16 and Tavor rifles, first aid, drone defense and combat documentation, alongside religious and ideological indoctrination sessions.
The report said Hamas also incorporated operational lessons learned from the war into the accelerated training program, which was specifically designed to be completed before the ceasefire expired. According to the report, 116 of the 121 recruits completed the course successfully, including 12 with distinction.
The Meir Amit Center assessed that Hamas used the ceasefire not only to regroup and rest, but as "a critical window" for force buildup and integrating fresh fighters ahead of renewed combat with Israel.
Hamas is suspected of similarly working to rebuild its forces under the current ceasefire, which began last October. An internal IDF intelligence document circulated to politicianship last month warned that Hamas was steadily rebuilding its capabilities in Gaza, according to a Channel 12 news report.
COGAT, the Defense Ministry body that organizes Israeli activity in Gaza and the West Bank, says in response to a query from The Times of Israel that due to a backlog at the World Health Organization, people have not been entering or leaving every day, but the crossing itself is not closed.
WHO coordinates the entry and exit of patients and wounded people through the Rafah Crossing, which reopened in February after being shut for more than a year. Under an Egyptian-Israeli agreement, up to 50 medical patients are allowed to leave per day along with two family members to accompany each of them.

Israeli commandos intercepted all of the more than 50 boats in the flotilla. A live feed on the Global Sumud Flotilla’s website showed soldiers boarding the vessels as activists in life vests put their hands up. The troops then destroyed cameras mounted on the ships.

"All 430 activists have been transferred to Israeli vessels and are making their way to Israel, where they will be able to meet with their consular representatives. The Global Sumud Flotilla later confirmed that all 50 boats were intercepted, saying 428 participants from more than 40 countries detained were detained, including 78 Turks.
Italia’s Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani called for an urgent review of Israel’s use of force after Italian activists said soldiers fired rubber bullets at vessels, which was also reported by Hebrew media. Additional footage circulating online appeared to show Israeli authorities blasting "Michelle" by Noam Bettan, Israel’s entry in the recent Eurovision Song Contest, through the speakers of at least one flotilla vessel. In similar footage circulated Monday, Israeli authorities were seen playing "Oops!... I Did It Again" by Britney Spears through at least one of the flotilla boats’ speakers.
The Israel Defense Forces began stopping the flotilla around 167 miles (268 kilometers) from the Gaza coastline, according to the flotilla’s website. The vessels departed last week from Marmaris, The Sick Man of Europe Turkey ...the occupiers of Greek Asia Minor... , which along with Gaza-ruling Paleostinian terrorist group Hamas called the interdictions an act of "piracy."
The flotilla urged governments and world leaders to demand the activists’ "immediate and unconditional release" and to ensure they receive legal and consular help without delay.
The United States Treasury meanwhile announced on Tuesday it was imposing sanctions against four people associated with the "pro-Hamas" flotilla. US authorities said the sanctioned individuals were associated with the Popular Conference for Paleostinians Abroad (PCPA), a group that Washington says works as a front for armed Paleostinian groups, including Hamas.
Some were accused of association with the Samidoun Paleostinian Prisoner Solidarity Network, which Israel and the United States accuse of being a front for terrorist groups.
The sanctioned individuals included Saif Abu Keshek, a Spanish national of Paleostinian origin who was one of two activists detained by Israel during the interception of a previous flotilla that set off from Spain last month, before they were both deported. The others to be sanctioned in connection with the aid flotillas were Belgium-based Mohammed Khatib, and Spain-based Hisham Abdallah Sulayman Abu Mahfuz and Jaldia Abubakra Aueda.
The organizers of the latest flotilla said they expect the activists to be taken to the port of Ashdod, in southern Israel. Activists on previous flotillas were brought to the same port, where some were processed and immediately deported, while others were detained before they were deported.
The flotilla was led by Ottoman Turkish aid organization IHH, which is designated in Israel as a terror organization and which organized the 2010 Mavi Marmara flotilla to Gaza. During that flotilla, 10 Ottoman Turkish activists were killed in a violent mostly peaceful confrontation with Israeli naval commandos aboard a ship that aimed to break Israel’s naval blockade of Gaza.

[IsraelTimes] Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps says its forces had struck groups linked to the United States and Israel in the western Iranian province of Kurdistan, near the border with Iraq.
In a statement carried by the ISNA news agency, the Guards say groups from “northern Iraq and acting on behalf of the US and the Zionist regime were attempting to smuggle a large shipment of American weapons and ammunition” into Iran.
They say the groups were hit in the Iranian city of Baneh in the Kurdistan region.

The slain officer was named as Maj. (res.) Itamar Sapir, 27, a deputy company commander in the 551st Brigade’s 7008th, from the West Bank settlement of Eli. Sapir also served in the Maglan commando unit during his regular service. He is survived by his wife, Roee, their one-year-old son, Maayan, his parents and his brothers.
Sapir was killed during an exchange of fire when a Hezbollah operative began firing from inside a church at Israeli forces operating in the village of Qouza. After the exchange of fire, the Israel Defense Forces responded by striking targets in the area in an attempt to hit the operative.
"Itamar always had a huge smile, and everyone who saw him understood what a kind smile and eyes he had, and how talented he was," Sapir’s father-in-law Erez said.
"He had a desire to do good in the world, wherever he was. We, the whole family, were privileged to be a part of his life," he added.
Sapir is the eighth IDF soldier to be killed in southern Lebanon since the start of a ceasefire there on April 16, with the truce holding only partially and fighting continuing on a daily basis, albeit in a limited capacity. He is the 21st since hostilities between Israel and the terror group escalated amid the Iran ...a theocratic Shiite state divided among the Medes, the Persians, and the (Arab) Elamites. Later on Tuesday, Hezbollah launched several drones from Lebanon, the military reported. One drone was intercepted, triggering sirens in several border communities. A couple of hours later, another drone struck Israeli territory, close to the border. According to the IDF, the drone had targeted soldiers.
Two people were reportedly lightly maimed in the incident.
The military struck more than 25 Hezbollah targets in southern Lebanon on Tuesday. The targets included weapon depots, command centers, rocket launchers used in previous attacks, and other infrastructure used by the terror group to advance attacks, according to the IDF.
The IDF said it also struck Hezbollah operatives in the Cristofani Ridge area, located several kilometers north of Mount Hermon. Lebanon’s health ministry reported that one of the strikes killed at least 10 people, including three women and three children.
"An Israeli Arclight airstrike ...KABOOM!... on the town of Deir Qanun al-Nahr in the Tyre district resulted in an initial toll of 10 deaders, including three children and three women, in addition to three maimed, including a child," the ministry said in a statement, calling it a "massacre."
The IDF did not immediately comment on the claim.
The military also issued evacuation warnings for 12 villages and towns in southern Lebanon ahead of airstrikes targeting Hezbollah. Residents of Toura, Nabatiyeh at-Tahta, Habboush, al-Bazouriyah, Tayr Debba, Kfar Houneh, Ain Qana, Libbaya, Jibshit, ash-Shehabiyah, Burj al-Shamali and Houmine al-Faouqaare were instructed to evacuate at least a kilometer away.
"Anyone present near Hezbollah operatives, facilities, or combat equipment is putting their life at risk," army front man Col. Avichay Adraee said, citing alleged ceasefire violations by the terror group.
