[Breitbart] Sen. Mitch McConnell (R-KY) was checked into a hospital on Monday night after he experienced “flu-like symptoms,” according to a report.
Andrew Desiderio, a senior congressional reporter for Punchbowl News, revealed in a post on X that David Popp, a spokesman for McConnell, had shared that his “prognosis is positive.”
“In an abundance of caution, after experiencing flu-like symptoms over the weekend, Senator McConnell checked himself into a local hospital for evaluation last night,” Popp’s statement said. “His prognosis is positive and he is grateful for the excellent care he is receiving.”
Popp added that McConnell is “in regular contact with his staff and looks forward to returning to Senate business.”
McConnell was reported to have “missed Senate votes on Monday and Tuesday,” according to Politico.
Breitbart News’s Hannah Knudsen reported in October that McConnell had suffered a fall as he was “walking through the Russell basement” as people from the “leftist Sunrise Movement” were asking him questions about whether he supported “ICE taking working people off the streets”:
According to reports, McConnell — now 83 years old — was walking through the Russell basement while members of the leftist Sunrise Movement questioned him. In the beginning of the video, McConnell holds the arm of another person and eventually lets go, walking on his own. A questioner then asked him, “I want to ask, do you support ICE taking working people off the streets and kidnapping them?”
Right before she got to the end of her question, McConnell can be seen grabbing the arm of the man next to him before tumbling to the floor. Two people then helped pick him up, and McConnell proceeded to wave to the camera before slowly walking away with a man on each side. He walked out of the area on his own, without holding on to others for support.
Prior to his fall in October, McConnell suffered a fall in December 2024 at the U.S. Capitol “after the Senate Republican Conference’s weekly Tuesday lunch.”
McConnell has also experienced instances in which he has seemed to freeze up in front of reporters. In August 2023, when asked if he would seek reelection, McConnell laughed and mumbled “something inaudible” before he “inexplicably froze.”

I think it's hard for a lot of people (it's hard for me for certain) to imagine that at 80 years old, there's nothing in a person's life that gives them joy other than accreting power and money. Even if you already have lots of money, and are sick and failing, and have kids and grandkids and friends to whom you could give your time.
But the sad truth is that government and the corporate world seem to attract this sort of damaged personality archetype.

^1: IMO at some point they cease becoming a 'public servant' and become the leader of an influence-driven bureaucracy. At that point, like many bureaucracies, their purpose is self perpetuation and gathering whatever power that enhances that goal -- not whatever their public goals purport to be.

They become addicted to the power, the relatively light work load, the ability to get rich through speeches & ghost written books and being part of a very exclusive club (US Senate) or an exclusive club (the House) and all the perks that come with it.

I saw a short video clip of Chuck Schumer on the news last night with a side view of him walking. From a front view, he still looks OK but from the side he's hunched, bent forward and he doesn't look well. Maybe if AOC can moderate some of her positions she could take his seat. I don't know which one of them would be worse.

@9 Schumer is worse, he knows how to work the Senate laws & procedures and is owed lots of favors after all the years he spend in the Senate. Even if AOC defeats him in a primary (unlikely) she won't be minority leader, she will be at or near the bottom when it comes to seniority and there is no way the so called adults that are Democratic senators will vote for her as minority leader.

Emails show Mandelson calling Epstein his "best pal" in a birthday letter, while sharing sensitive government info during a financial crisis. Allegedly, he leaked Downing Street emails and market details that could've helped Epstein's shady dealings.
Mandelson received tens of thousands of dollars from Epstein or his associates; anybody cozying up to that monster after his conviction deserves zero sympathy; it's pure moral rot.
