Troops of 63 Brigade/Sector 1, Joint Task Force, South South, Operation DELTA SAFE have successfully bursted a criminal gang and recovered arms and ammunition in Oshimilli North Local Government Area of Delta State. The operations led to the arrest of two suspected criminals, alleged to be members of a notorious cult group in the area. Their arrest was effected following credible intelligence on the nefarious activities of the criminal gang in a recent operation conducted around Ibusa.
During the operations,several weapons were recovered, including two pump action rifles recovered from the criminals, as well as additional three pump action rifles recovered from purported local vigilantes. The suspects and weapons recovered have been handed over to the relevant agency for further investigation. Sources said that the recovery followed sustained, intelligence-led security operations and follow-up actions after recent cordon-and-search activities aimed at denying criminal and terrorist elements freedom of action.
Military sources said the discovery was made at about 3:00 p.m. on Friday, following a distress call by residents who reported suspicious metallic objects inside a drainage channel in the area.
Troops, alongside Police Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) teams, immediately mobilised to the location to secure the environment and assess the situation.
A thorough search of the drainage channel led to the recovery of 1,270 rounds of 12.7mm ammunition warheads, including some live 12.7mm rounds, as well as power banks concealed within the channel. More at the link

The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has sustained a series of coordinated, intelligence-led air interdiction operations across the North-East and North-West, dealing significant blows to terrorist networks and denying them safe havens.
NAF spokesman, Air Commodore Ehimen Ejodame, said in a statement on Friday that the operations were conducted between Jan. 1 and Jan. 2, 2026, under the joint task forces of Operations Hadin Kai and Fasan Yamma Sector 2.
Ejodame said the air strikes were executed based on actionable intelligence on terrorist intent, movement and logistics, with air assets deployed to strike identified hideouts, movement routes and assembly areas.
He said the operations were aimed at denying terrorists freedom of movement, operational depth and sanctuary within Nigeria’s territory.
“In the North-East theatre, successive precision strikes were delivered against deeply concealed terrorist enclaves at Abirma and Chiralia within the Timbuktu Triangle, following persistent surveillance that confirmed active facilities linked to improvised explosive device production and attack planning,” he said. It is populated by more antagonistic tribes and factions than you can keep track of... 's resource-rich Hadramawt province, military officials said, as confrontations between forces backed by Riyadh and Abu Dhabi have triggered a deep rift between the two Gulf allies.
The Saudis and Emiratis have for years supported rival factions in Yemen's fractious government. But the UAE-backed secessionist Southern Transitional Council's recent offensive to capture Hadramawt angered Riyadh and left the oil-rich regional powers on a collision course.
Following repeated warnings and air strikes, including on an alleged Emirati weapons shipment this week, the Saudi-led coalition launched a wave of attacks on Friday, including on the al-Khasha military camp in Hadramawt that left 20 dead, according to the separatist group.
Two military officials with the Saudi-aligned government told AFP on Saturday morning that Riyadh-backed forces had taken control of the principal military base in the Yemeni city of Mukalla, the capital of Hadramawt.
According to an AFP journalist, gunfire could be heard in the city early Saturday and while residents described a security breakdown there, Saudi-backed forces appeared to advance with little resistence.
In the province's city of Seiyun, 160 kilometres (100 miles) northwest of Mukalla, a government military official said pro-Saudi forces had taken control of the airport, targeted in Friday's strikes, as well as administrative buildings.
"We are working to secure them," the military official said.
A STC military official said: "There has been a retreat of our forces and we are resisting the attacking forces in Seiyun."
"We carried out a complete withdrawal from the areas of al-Khasha... as a result of pressure from Saudi air strikes on us," he added.
- CALL FOR DIALOGUE -
Residents in Seiyun also said they heard gunfire and festivities early on Saturday.

The STC is now pushing to declare independence and form a breakaway state, which would split the Arabian Peninsula's poorest state in two.
On Friday the separatists announced the start of a two-year transitional period towards declaring an independent state and said the process would include dialogue and a referendum on independence.
STC president Aidaros Alzubidi said the transitional phase would include dialogue with Yemen's north -- controlled by Iran-backed Iran's Houthi sock puppets ...a Zaidi Shia insurgent group operating in Yemen. They have also been referred to as the Believing Youth. Hussein Badreddin al-Houthi is said to be the spiritual leader of the group and most of the military leaders are his relatives. The group has managed to gain control over all of Saada Governorate and parts of Amran, Al Jawf and Hajjah Governorates. On the plus side, they did murder Ali Abdullah Saleh, which was the only way the country was ever going to be rid of him... rebels -- and a referendum on independence.
But he warned that the group would declare independence "immediately" if there was no dialogue or if southern Yemen was attacked again.

In fact, the article never tells us who the "youths" are who attacked the cops, lit the Roman candles, or tossed the firebombs. The author also mentions that 14 people went to hospitals for eye injuries, which may or may not have been caused by fireworks. It ends with good news: fireworks, not the felons using them as weapons, will be outlawed in 2026.

Franziska Giffey, the city's Senator for Economic Affairs, described the incident as “a particularly severe power outage affecting tens of thousands of households and businesses, including care facilities, hospitals, numerous social institutions and companies.”
While power was restored to thousands of households by Sunday, many others are likely to be left in the dark until Thursday, authorities estimate.
Snowy weather and freezing temperatures has slowed down efforts to restore electricity and made life extra difficult for those affected.

According to the statement, SDF forces "raided the cell’s location without any casualties among civilians or the participating forces." Weapons and communication equipment "used to support terrorist activities" were seized during the operation, it added.
The SDF said that during initial interrogations, the detainees confessed to gathering intelligence on the locations and positions of SDF forces, planning attacks, and "maintaining contact with ISIS leadership and supplying them with information."
The announcement came days after the SDF said it arrested several ISIS members on Thursday, including an individual involved in bomb-making and multiple attacks, in another joint operation with the US-led global coalition.
On Wednesday, the SDF said it had carried out 163 security and military operations against ISIS cells in 2025, arresting or killing dozens of bully boys, including three leaders.
Those operations led to the dismantling of logistical networks, the destruction of hideouts, and the seizure of weapons and improvised bombs before they could be used to target civilians and public institutions, according to the statement.
