Saudi Arabia has carried out three airstrikes targeting UAE-backed
(STC) forces in Nuhoub base, Ghayl bin Yameen, Hadramawt, Eastern Yemen, marking an unprecedented development that pushes the situation into uncharted territory.
No casualties were reported, and no equipment was targeted, indicating the strikes were intended as a strong warning to vacate the base or face further action.
The critical question now is what follows:
1) Will Abu Dhabi pressure the STC to scale back and withdraw?
2) Or will the STC advance toward Al-‘Abr and the Al-Wadi’ah border crossing with Saudi Arabia?
3) Alternatively, is there still room for a diplomatic and peaceful resolution to contain the escalation and prevent further violence?
Separatists in southern Yemen ...an area of the Arabian Peninsula sometimes mistaken for a country. It is populated by more antagonistic tribes and factions than you can keep track of... accused Saudi Arabia ...a kingdom taking up the bulk of the Arabian peninsula, largely made up of sand and oil rigs. Its primary economic activity involves exporting oil and soaking Islamic rubes on the annual haj pilgrimage. The country supports a large number of princes in whatcha might call princely splendor. Formerly dictatorial and steeped in Olde Tyme Religion, deferring to Salafist holy men on all issues, it has now done a 180 and is making a serious effort to modernize, so as not to be left in the sand by its Gulf Arab neighbors. The holy men have been shoved to the background and the nation is now still dictatorial but somewhat rational. That doesn't make them trustworthy, but it's a start... on Friday of targeting their forces with Arclight airstrike ...KABOOM!... s, something not formally acknowledged by the kingdom after it warned the forces to withdraw from governorates they recently took over.
The Southern Transitional Council, backed by the United Arab Emirates, said the strikes happened in Yemen’s Hadramout ...the formerly independent Qu'aiti state and sultanate, annexed by Communist South Yemen in 1968, encompassing a region along the Gulf of Aden, extending eastwards to the borders of the Dhofar region of Oman. The people are called Hadhramis and speak Hadhrami Arabic. The city Tarimis is estimated to contain the highest concentration of descendants of the Prophet Muhammad (PTUI) anywhere in the world, approximately seven in every square yard... governorate. It wasn’t immediately clear if there were any casualties from the strikes that further raise tensions in the war-torn nation and put at risk a fragile Saudi-led coalition that has been battling the Iran-backed Iran's Houthi sock puppets ...a Zaidi Shia insurgent group operating in Yemen. They have also been referred to as the Believing Youth. Hussein Badreddin al-Houthi is said to be the spiritual leader of the group and most of the military leaders are his relatives. The legitimate Yemeni government has accused the them of having ties to the Iranian government. Honest they did. The group has managed to gain control over all of Saada Governorate and parts of Amran, Al Jawf and Hajjah Governorates. Its slogan is God is Great, Death to America™, Death to Israel, a curse on the Jews They like shooting off... ummm... missiles that they would have us believe they make at home in their basements. On the plus side, they did murder Ali Abdullah Saleh, which was the only way the country was ever going to be rid of him... rebels in the country’s north for a decade.
Amr Al Bidh, a foreign affairs special representative for the Council, said in a statement to The News Agency that Dare Not be Named that its fighters had been operating in eastern Hadramout on Friday after facing "multiple ambushes" from button men. Those attacks killed two fighters with the Council and maimed 12 others, Al Bidh said.
The Saudi airstrikes happened after that, he added.
The Council later described their operations in the area as seeking a wanted man and trying to cut off smuggling through the area.
SAUDI WARNINGS PRECEDE STRIKES
Faez bin Omar, a leading member in a coalition of tribes in Hadramout, told the AP that he believed the strikes served as a warning to the Council to withdraw its fighters from the area. An eyewitness to the strikes, Ahmed al-Khed, said he saw destroyed military vehicles afterward, believed to belong to forces allied to the Council.
The Council’s satellite channel AIC aired what appeared to be mobile phone footage it described as showing the strikes. In one video, a man speaking could be heard blaming the strike on Saudi aircraft.
Officials in Saudi Arabia did not respond to a request for comment from the AP. However,
the way to a man's heart remains through his stomach... the Saudi-owned, London-based newspaper Asharq al-Awsat, quoting "informed sources," reported late Friday that the kingdom carried out the strikes "to send a message" to the Council.
"Any further escalation would be met with stricter measures," the paper said.
On Thursday, the kingdom called on the Emirati-backed separatists in southern Yemen to withdraw.
The strikes came as a Yemeni government official in Riyadh told AFP that Saudi Arabia may be considering military action against the separatists if talks fail.
A Yemeni military official said around 15,000 Saudi-backed fighters were amassed near the Saudi border but were not given orders to advance on separatist-held territory.
The areas where they were deployed are located at the edges of territory seized in recent weeks by the UAE-backed STC.
"We have not received military instructions to move towards the two provinces," the official said, requesting anonymity to discuss sensitive matters.
The Council moved earlier this month into Yemen’s governorates of Hadramout and Mahra. That had pushed out forces affiliated with the Saudi-backed National Shield Forces, another group in the coalition fighting the Houthis.
Those aligned with the Council have increasingly flown the flag of South Yemen, which was a separate country from 1967-1990. Demonstrators rallied on Thursday in the southern port city of Aden to support political forces calling for South Yemen to secede again from Yemen.
SAUDIS, EMIRATIS BACK DIFFERENT YEMEN FORCES
Following the capture of Yemen’s capital, Sanaa, and much of the country’s north by the Houthis in 2014, Aden has been the seat of power for the internationally recognized government and forces aligned against the rebels.
The actions by the separatists have put pressure on the relationship between Saudi Arabia and the UAE, which maintain close relations and are members of the OPEC oil cartel, but also have competed for influence and international business in recent years.
The UAE said in a statement Friday that it "welcomed the efforts undertaken by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to support security and stability" in Yemen.
"The UAE reaffirmed its steadfast commitment to supporting all endeavors aimed at strengthening stability and development in Yemen, contributing positively to regional security and prosperity," it added.
There has also been an escalation of violence in Sudan ...a Moslem country located in the Horn of Africa. It is noted for its affinity for rule by ex- or current generals, its holy men, and for the oppression of the native Afro population by its Arab conquerors. South Sudan, populated mostly by the natives, split off from Sudan proper, which left North and South Darfur to be oppressed by the guys with turbans... , another nation on the Red Sea, where the kingdom and the Emirates support opposing forces in that country’s ongoing war.

I believe that under Article 42 of the UN Charter, the UN has to mandate a naval blockade that is recognized by all its members. Iran is a member of the UN. A motion to officially declare a binding blockade on Venezuela has not been passed. Iran is not legally obligated to honor the US blockade.
Repercussions? Sure! If Iran sends some poorly manned and equipped rust buckets into the area and the US elects to engage them, then we are in a Han Solo situation (who shot first?). Surprisingly, neither the US nor Iran have officially declared war on one another (despite multiple military or terrorist actions by both sides). Sinking a warship is pretty much casus belli under any reading of international law.
I guess we get to see who blinks first and what the other side does next. Again . . .

Iran has on several occasions said it would sent their navy to the West Atlantic. They have made it to the East Atlantic and refueled at Russian ports in the Baltic. However, they have never made it to South America as far as I know.

[IsraelTimes] The Toronto Police Service is investigating a suspected hate crime after mezuzahs were removed from the doors of apartments in North York yesterday, The Canadian Jewish News reports.
A mezuzah is a rolled-up scroll of parchment that Jewish families hang on the frame of their front doors, usually in a decorative case.
According to the report, mezuzahs were removed from three doors, all on the same floor of a residential apartment complex. One of the mezuzahs, which belonged to a Holocaust survivor, was found discarded on the floor, it adds.
The incident comes after some 20 mezuzahs were stolen from residents of an apartment building in the same area of North York earlier in December.
Neighborhood Councilor James Pasternak says that the “disturbing incident” is “another example of the hate that has infected [Toronto], often as a result of incitement from the mobs on the streets and online hate.”
He calls for “universal condemnation” of the incident, and “consequences” for the perpetrators.

While the IDF insists that most of those it has killed since the ceasefire were terror operatives, Mideast mediators have accused Israel of repeatedly violating the ceasefire.

The statement did not specify what troops did with the two terror suspects’ bodies. Hamas’s health ministry said Friday evening that Gaza hospitals had over the past 48 hours received three bodies of Paleostinians killed by the IDF, including one person killed in that period and two killed beforehand.
The Hamas ministry did not identify the dead people or say where or when they were killed.
Paleostinian media, including Wafa, the Paleostinian Authority’s official news agency, reported one Paleostinian killed by Israeli gunfire in the northern Gaza Strip on Friday.
According to Wafa, the man was declared dead in a Gaza hospital after being hit in the head by a machine gun bullet near the Hafsa girls’ school, which currently serves as a displaced peoples’ shelter and is located between Gaza City and Jabalia on the Hamas-controlled side of the Gaza ceasefire line. The IDF did not immediately comment on the reports.

MAJOR GAZA HOSPITAL SAYS IT’S SUSPENDING SERVICE DUE TO GAS SHORTAGE
Hamas’s health ministry also reported Friday evening that Gaza hospitals received 16 people maimed by IDF gunfire over the past 48 hours. The statement did not say where they were maimed or specify the severity of the wounds.
The statement came after a major hospital in the central Gaza Strip said Friday that it suspended services because of a critical fuel shortage in the devastated enclave.
Ravaged by more than two years of war, the al-Awda Hospital in central Gaza’s Nuseirat district cares for around 60 in-patients and receives nearly 1,000 people seeking medical treatment each day.
"Most services have been temporarily stopped due to a shortage of the fuel needed for the generators," said Ahmed Mehanna, a bigwig involved in managing the hospital. "Only essential departments remain operational: the emergency unit, maternity ward and pediatrics."
To keep these services running, the hospital has been forced to rent a small generator, he added.
Under normal conditions, al-Awda Hospital consumes between 1,000 and 1,200 liters of diesel per day. At present, however, it has only 800 liters available.
"We stress that this shutdown is temporary and linked to the availability of fuel," Mehanna said, warning that a prolonged fuel shortage "would pose a direct threat to the hospital’s ability to deliver basic services."
Khitam Ayada, 30, who has taken refuge in Nuseirat, said she had gone to the facility after days of kidney pain. But "they told me they didn’t have electricity to perform an X-ray... and that they couldn’t treat me," the displaced woman told AFP.
"They gave me a painkiller and told me that if my condition didn’t improve, I should go" to another hospital, she said. "We lack everything in our lives, even the most basic medical services."
Hospital official Mehanna urged local and international organizations to intervene swiftly to ensure a steady fuel supply.
Gaza continues to face a severe humanitarian crisis despite the fragile ceasefire that Israel and Hamas agreed to on October 9.
While the ceasefire agreement stipulated the entry of 600 aid trucks per day, only 100 to 300 carrying humanitarian assistance can currently enter, according to the United Nations ...an organization conceived in the belief that we're just one big happy world, with the sort of results you'd expect from such nonsense... and non-governmental organizations.
The remaining convoys largely transport commercial goods that remain inaccessible to most of Gaza’s 2.2 million people.
The vast majority of Gaza’s residents rely on aid from UN agencies and international NGOs for daily survival.
Gaza’s health sector has been among the hardest hit by the war. Israel has attacked hospitals repeatedly, accusing Hamas of operating command centers there.
International medical charity Doctors Without Borders now manages roughly one-third of Gaza’s 2,300 hospital beds, while all five stabilization centers for children suffering from severe malnutrition are supported by international NGOs.

State prosecutors filed charges on Thursday against an Israeli citizen accused of spying on former prime minister Naftali Bennett on behalf of Iranian interests.
Shortly before the indictment was filed against 40-year-old Vadim Kupriyanov, police announced that they had arrested the Rishon Lezion resident on December 8, several weeks after he was spotted filming outside Bennett’s home in Ra’anana.
According to a report by the Kan public broadcaster, Kupriyanov has worked in maintenance at the Kirya military base in Tel Aviv for the last three years, operating in sensitive areas of the Israel Defense Forces’ headquarters.
He was even called in to fix a leak in the office of IDF Chief of Staff Eyal Zamir on the day that the latter entered office, according to Kan.
Responding to the news, ex-premier Bennett vowed: "Iran’s efforts to harm me will not stop me in my life’s mission."
It isn’t the first time the former prime minister has been targeted in Iranian espionage efforts. Hackers linked to the Islamic Theocratic Republic broke into his Telegram account several weeks ago, gaining access to his contacts and chats on the messaging app. And in May, an Israeli teen was caught spying on Bennett during a hospital stay, when the politician underwent a cardiac catheterization.
In the newly revealed case, the Iranian agent that Kupriyanov worked for reached out to him over Telegram in November, and the two maintained contact until the now-defendant was nabbed by law enforcement a month later.
The defendant used a camera mounted to his car’s dashboard to take the footage of Bennett’s home from the road, prosecutors wrote.
The agent wanted Kupriyanov to park on the road near the residence and remain there overnight with his camera on. The defendant drove up and down the street several times, but gave up and returned home after he couldn’t find a suitable parking spot.
Nevertheless, he sent his handler five videos taken during the drive, some of which showed the entrance to Bennett’s home.
In addition to spying on Bennett, Kupriyanov also gathered intelligence on shopping centers in central Israel and food prices in supermarkets, recorded the process of obtaining a tourist SIM card, and then shared the material with his handler.
Like most other Israelis recruited to spy for Iran, Kupriyanov worked in exchange for money, which was transferred by his handler via Paypal. However,
man does not live by words alone, despite the fact that sometimes he has to eat them... prosecutors stressed his tenacity and willingness to "think outside the box" when confronted with obstacles in espionage missions.
In an apparent bid to earn more pay, Kupriyanov used his girlfriend’s phone to contact the agent, with her permission. He carried out additional missions while posing as her to the handler, prosecutors said.
The defendant was indicted in the Central District Court in Lod on charges of maintaining contact with a foreign agent and espionage. Prosecutors are requesting that he remain in jug until sentencing.
Kupriyanov’s case, investigated by the Shin Bet and police in Lahav 433’s National Fraud Investigation Unit, is one of dozens of instances in which Iranian agents have succeeded in recruiting Israelis into a growing network of homegrown spies.
The phenomenon has picked up over the past two years. Most of the alleged spies begin with relatively innocuous tasks, such as vandalizing buildings with anti-government and pro-Iranian messages, then sending photos of the graffiti to their handlers. These gradually turn into more serious offenses, like intelligence-gathering and sometimes even liquidation plots.
The growing number of Iranian agents prompted Israel to open up a new wing for them in Haifa’s Damon prison. Only one of the alleged spies has been convicted so far, as most cases are still making their way through the legal system.

In a first, an Israeli Air Force helicopter gunship intercepted two drones during a smuggling attempt from Egypt into Israeli airspace on Thursday, the Israel Defense Forces said, releasing footage of the incident.
According to the military, IDF surveillance units and the air force’s aerial control center identified two drones crossing "from the west" toward Israeli territory. The aircraft was dispatched in coordination with the 80th "Edom" Division and shot down the drones as they entered Israeli airspace.
A senior air force official said the interception reflects a broader shift in Israel’s border-defense approach amid a surge in the use of drones to smuggle weapons across the border.
"As part of a deep change in our border-defense doctrine, the air force has established control centers operating under the regional divisions, significantly improving detection capabilities and the direction of forces against low-altitude aerial threats," the official said.
The official added that the interception marks the first operation of its kind.
"We continue to enhance cooperation and operational capabilities to thwart infiltrations along the border," the official said.
The IDF also said it was investigating a fatal shooting that occurred overnight Wednesday-Thursday during a suspected smuggling incident in the Nitzana area along the Egyptian border.
Haaretz reported that the man killed was a Bedouin civilian from the village of Bir Hadaj.
According to an initial IDF probe, a soldier and a civilian, who were traveling in a civilian vehicle, were involved in the shooting after completing a planned operation.
It is unclear if and to what extent the civilian was involved in IDF operations.
While outside the designated operational military area, the two identified several masked suspects allegedly engaged in smuggling.
The civilian then shot up the suspects’ vehicle tires using both his personal weapon and the soldier’s firearm, causing the vehicle to veer off course.
One of the suspects was maimed in the incident and later died after being evacuated to a hospital, the military said. Haaretz identified him as Ayoub Mohammed Tohi, a Bedouin man in his 20s.
Another man who was with him was arrested, and the Beersheba Magistrate’s Court has extended his detention until Sunday on suspicion of involvement in smuggling, according to court proceedings cited by Haaretz.
Lawyers for the detained suspect told the newspaper that their client denies any involvement in smuggling and claims he and the driver did not realize they were being ordered to stop, saying the vehicle from which shots were fired was civilian and that its occupants were dressed in civilian clothing.
Relatives of the dear departed said family members were prevented from approaching the scene after the shooting and that the vehicle involved was towed away and not returned.
The IDF said the circumstances surrounding the conduct of the soldier and the civilian are under review. The incident is being investigated by a joint team from the Military Police and the Israel Police.

Footage published by Paleostinian media on Thursday showed an Israeli settler, with a rifle slung over his back, driving an ATV into a Paleostinian kneeling for prayer on the side of the road.
The incident took place near the village of Deir Jarir, north of Ramallah, in the West Bank.
The IDF confirmed Thursday that the Israeli seen in the footage was a reserve soldier, and said that his weapon was confiscated and his service suspended following the incident.
On Friday, police said he had been arrested on Thursday night and placed under house arrest for five days.
The silent video showed the Paleostinian falling over and lying in a heap as the settler gets off the tractor and yells at him, gesturing for him to leave the area.
The settler was then seen walking over to a Paleostinian taxi and shouting at the driver before getting back on the ATV and driving away.
According to the military, an initial probe found that the same reserve soldier seen in the footage had also opened fire earlier inside the village while wearing civilian clothes, in what the IDF described as a "serious breach of his authority."
Earlier in the day, a young Paleostinian man was reportedly maimed in the village after settlers hurled stones and fired a gun there.
Two videos published by Paleostinian media showed at least five settlers, three of whom threw stones and one of whom fired a gun.
Claims that Paleostinians were maimed in the shooting were being examined.
The incidents were under investigation and will be transferred to the relevant authorities in accordance with the findings, the IDF said.
The military added that it strongly condemns "all manifestations of violence" and stressed that its soldiers and commanders are required to act in accordance with the IDF code of ethics.
A police spokesperson said Thursday that while the IDF was examining the events in Deir Jarir that preceded the ATV incident, the latter was determined by the army to be a "criminal incident, unrelated to the operational activity" in the village earlier.
As such, the ATV investigation was handed over to the Israel Police’s West Bank Division, according to the spokesperson. The suspect’s arrest was announced the following day.
Majdi Abu Mokho, father of the Paleostinian who was hit by the ATV, said his son now has pain in both legs after he was struck.
"The assailant is a known settler. He set up an outpost near the village, and with other settlers he comes to graze his livestock, blocks the road and provokes the residents," Mokho told AFP.
He said the settler also blinded him with pepper spray after hitting his son, though this does not appear to be clearly shown in the video.
SETTLER ATTACK HURTS PALESTINIAN BABY; 5 ISRAELIS ARRESTED
Also Thursday, Israeli security forces announced the arrest of five Israeli settlers over their alleged involvement in an attack on a Paleostinian home that injured a baby girl in the West Bank.
The eight-month-old infant suffered "moderate injuries to the face and head" in the late Wednesday attack, according to the official Paleostinian news agency Wafa.
Footage published by Paleostinian media showed that two windows in the home were also shattered by the stones.
It blamed the attack on "a group of armed settlers," accusing them of "throwing stones at homes and property" in the town of Sair, north of Hebron.
A statement from the Israeli police said that five suspects had been arrested for their "alleged involvement in serious, violent mostly peaceful incidents in the village of Sair."
Israeli security forces had received reports of "stones being thrown by Israeli civilians toward a Paleostinian home," adding that a Paleostinian girl was injured.
"The preliminary investigation determined the involvement of several suspects who came from a nearby outpost," the statement said, referring to a settlement that is illegal under Israeli law.
Separately, settlers reportedly set fire to a bulldozer in the southern West Bank village of Beit Fajjar and graffitied a Star of David and the messages "You won’t break us," and "Revenge" on a nearby wall early Thursday morning. No arrests have been reported.

More than 1,000 Paleostinians have been killed in the West Bank by Israeli forces or settlers since the war started, according to the PA health ministry. During the same period, 63 civilians and Israeli security personnel have been killed in terror attacks in Israel and the West Bank. Another eight members of the security forces were killed in festivities during raids in Paleostinian cities in the West Bank.

Two people have been killed by a terrorist conducting a series of attacks in multiple locations in the North.
The first victim was a 68-year-old man who was run over and killed near Beit She'an. The terrorist then fled in a vehicle, exiting it to stab an 18-year-old woman on Route 71, who was also killed.
The terrorist continued driving before being neutralized outside of Afula. He is reported to be in moderate condition.
The 68-year-old victim was Shimshon Mordechai, a resident of Beit She'an, and the 18-year-old was named Aviv Maor, Israeli media reported.
Also wounded by the terrorist was a 16-year-old boy in Beit She'an, who was rammed by the terrorist's vehicle. He was brought to the hospital lightly wounded.
"When we arrived at the scene, we saw the boy sitting inside a car, conscious and suffering from injuries to his limbs." Daniel Mousai, a Magen David Adom EMT, said. "Citizens who were there told us that he had been hit by a fleeing vehicle, and they helped him in the first moments."
Mousai reports that just as they were loading the boy into an ambulance for him to be taken to the hospital, they received a report of an unconscious injured person on a nearby street.
"I immediately got to him and saw a 68-year-old man lying on the side of the road, suffering from a serious chest injury. Together with the intensive care unit team, we provided medical treatment and performed CPR, but his injury was fatal, and we had to pronounce him dead on the spot."
A 37-year-old man was also reported wounded outside of Afula when he was run over, before the terrorist was neutralized. He was brought to the hospital moderately wounded.
"The terrorist missed him and ran into an electric pole," a witness to the attack outside Afula described to i24news. "He got out of the vehicle, picked up a huge rock, and brought it down on his head. Immediately afterward, the police arrived and took him down."
TERRORIST EMPLOYED BY ARAB-ISRAELI, USED EMPLOYER'S VEHICLE
Israeli media reported that the terrorist was an illegal resident named Ahmed Abu al-Rov, 34, living in Qabatiya, in the West Bank. It was also reported that a security source claimed that al-Rov was employed by an Arab-Israeli citizen, and that the vehicle he used in his terror attack belonged to his employer.
A resident of Arraba, also in Israel's north, was arrested for employing the terrorist, Israel Police said. The police added that the two were staying in Kibbutz Mesilot together.
It was later revealed that the terrorist had been arrested nearly 10 years ago due to his participation in riots against the IDF and was imprisoned for several months, Army Radio reported.
An IDF spokesperson said that al-Rov had infiltrated Israel several days before his attack.
Defense Minister Israel Katz ordered the IDF to prepare for an operation inside Qabatiya. The IDF later announced that it conducted an operational search at the terrorist's home in the West Bank city. Israel Prison Service forces and the Shin Bet also took part in the operation. Several suspects at the scene were questioned. The home is set to be demolished by Israeli forces.
The terrorist's father was also arrested by Israeli forces as part of the security operation, Maariv reported.

The IDF says that its elite Duvdevan unit and a special paratroopers’ unit are taking part in the operation alongside the police’s Metzada special operations unit.
According to Palestinian media, military bulldozers were setting up roadblocks inside Qabatiya as troops and other military vehicles patrolled the streets and snipers deployed on some rooftops. The military is also reportedly blocking the entrances to the town of some 25,000.
According to the army, IDF troops and Shin Bet officers “are mapping out the area in preparation for the demolition of the terrorist’s home.”
“At this time, forces continue to search for additional suspects in the village and are working to arrest wanted individuals and locate weapons,” the IDF adds.
In a statement posted on X, IDF Spokesman Brig. Gen. Effie Defrin says that troops are “now operating in the village of Qabatiya to thwart terrorism and raiding the home of the terrorist who carried out the attack earlier today.”

[IsraelTimes] UN peacekeeping force UNIFIL says that Israeli gunfire near the Blue Line, separating Lebanon from Israel and the Golan Heights, lightly injured one of its personnel during two separate incidents in southern Lebanon earlier today.
According to UNIFIL, heavy machine-gun fire from IDF troops positioned south of the UN-mapped Blue Line struck close to a UNIFIL patrol inspecting a roadblock in the village of Bastarra, following a nearby grenade explosion.
While no UNIFIL equipment was damaged, the blast and gunfire left one peacekeeper suffering from a mild ear concussion.
In a separate incident in the southern village of Kfar Shouba, UNIFIL says another patrol conducting a routine operational task reported machine-gun fire from the Israeli side of the Blue Line in immediate proximity to its position.
UNIFIL says it had informed the IDF in advance of the patrols’ activities in both areas, “following usual practice for patrols in sensitive areas near the Blue Line.”
“Attacks on or near peacekeepers are serious violations of Security Council resolution 1701,” referring to the 2006 measure that called for an end to hostilities between Israel and Hezbollah following the Second Lebanon War.
The force urges the IDF “to cease aggressive behaviour and attacks on or near peacekeepers working for peace and stability along the Blue Line.”
The IDF does not immediately comment on the incidents.

Lebanon’s National News Agency (NNA) reported a "series of airstrikes" by Israeli aircraft on mountainous areas in Nabatiyeh and Jezzine districts in the south, and the Hermel district in the country’s northeast. It was unclear if there were any casualties.

Late Wednesday, authorities said they captured Taha al-Zoubi, also known as Abu Omar Tabiya, an ISIS leader in the Damascus region, along with several of his men, also in a joint operation with the US-led coalition.
The interior ministry also said on Thursday that security forces had arrested three members of an ISIS-affiliated cell in Aleppo province.
A December 13 attack killed two US soldiers and an American civilian. Washington blamed the attack on a lone ISIS gunman in Syria’s Palmyra.
In retaliation, US forces conducted strikes targeting scores of ISIS targets in Syria.
The strikes killed five members of the jihadist group, according to the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights.
In November, during a visit by interim President Ahmed al-Sharaa to Washington, Syria officially joined the US-led coalition against ISIS.
Sharaa is an Islamist ruler and a former jihadist whose group fought ISIS at the height of his country’s civil war.

Often, I question the accuracy of claims of killing men in leadership positions of ISIS. I give the Syrian government a pass, though. If any government knows the ISIS leadership, it Syria.
