[Daily Mail, where America gets its news] An elderly woman was savagely attacked in broad daylight by a man wielding a wooden board with nails in it.
Jeanette Marken, 75, was left permanently blinded in her right eye after being hit in the face with the makeshift weapon in Seattle, allegedly at the hands of repeat offender Fale Vaigalepa Pea, 42.
Family members told KOMO that a screw sticking out of the board gouged out Marken's eye, and after several surgeries she was told she will not recover her eyesight in the eye.
Marken's son Andrius Dyrikis told the outlet that the random attack has left the family stunned, saying: 'To take a wood club with nails and hit her at full force in the face? I don't understand it.'
In footage of the incident, Marken was seen walking up to the corner of an intersection before a man identified as Pea crept up behind her and launched his attack.
After swinging the wooden bat at the 75-year-old and knocking her to the ground, a quick thinking bystander took a picture of the culprit before tending to Marken.
The bystander then pointed a King County Sheriff's deputy to the attacker, and Pea was arrested near the scene.
In bodycam footage from the arrest as the Seattle police were called to the scene, an officer appeared to recognize Pea as a repeat offender, saying he is 'notorious for random assaults.'
Police said Pea was 'notorious' for attacking random victims on Third Avenue in Seattle.
The bodycam footage showed a paramedic question the officer after he recognized Pea, asking: 'Who is this guy?'
'He's a regular. He usually punches,' the officer responds.
'I guess today he decided to escalate from his usual.'
According to KOMO, Pea's string of offenses dates back to 2011, when he stabbed two people at a party.
One of the victims in that attack was stabbed eight times, yet despite a jury finding Pea guilty of the savage attack, he received a sentence of just 18-months community custody.
Pea continued racking up criminal offenses over the years, including one in 2020, four in 2023, and one in 2024.
This year, the King County jail reported that Pea has been booked into custody a staggering eight times, for offenses including assault, indecent exposure, drug offenses, and property destruction.
Other offenses he was booked in for included unlawful use of weapons and malicious mischief.
However, KOMO reported Seattle Municipal Court and King County Superior Court records show none of his arrests this year resulted in charges - until the alleged attack on Marken.
Pea is now charged with assault in the first degree, and will remain in custody until he has a competency hearing later this month.
Prosecutors cited Pea's lengthy rap sheet in a charging document for the assault on Marken, saying that his 'egregious actions in this case, as well as his prior assaultive criminal history, demonstrate that he is a substantial danger to the community and is likely to commit a violent offense.'
Dyrikis said he felt let down by the justice system for allowing the repeat offender to roam freely on the streets despite his history.
'He's a usual? A usual what? Attacking people? Civilians? What the hell is wrong with your system?' he questioned.
'I want someone to at least say to my mom, ‘Hey, we’re working on this, we’re fixing it... I want them to say, ‘we notice, hey, we’re working on it.''

We need a law that allows victims to sue prosecutors and judges when dangerous criminals are released and then commit more crimes like this one. If you can sue a doctor for malpractice, why can't you sue the DA or the judge?

Youhuang Xiang, a post-doctoral researcher and J-1 visa holder from China was charged with smuggling Escherichia coli (E. coli) into the U.S. and making false statements about it.
This is yet another example of a researcher from China - given the privilege to work at a U.S. university - who then allegedly chose to take part in a scheme to circumvent U.S. laws and receive biological materials hidden in a package originating from China.

A curious affair. E coli is is the white lab rat of microbial research and is readily and unsuspiciously available from bio supply houses. At first glance, this is rather like smuggling common lab supplies such as test tubes and latex gloves.
E coli is commonly found in the human lower intestine. Considered a facultative pathogen, it normally behaves itself, but can cause problems like urinary tract infections if it gets in the wrong place. Some strains produce toxins which can cause food poisoning.
Is there something peculiar about this particular strain of E. coli that makes it worth smuggling?

Yes, that's a real name. It's actually the name of a Democrat operative who was just arrested by the FBI and charged with distributing child porn. Randon "Randy" Alexander Sprinkle, 30, it turns out, was recently the finance chairman of the Virginia Democrat Party; he once served as a leader in the Young Democrats of Virginia, and worked in 2025 as the campaign treasurer for Richmond City Council Vice President Katherine Jordan.
And, now, Mr. Sprinkle is in big trouble with the law. It seems that he was an avid user of an app called "Jack'd," which markets itself as "the premier social app for gay, bi, trans, and queer people" and boasts of having more than 15 million members. Whilst using Jack'd (under the name "Randy," by the way), Sprinkle unknowingly made contact with an undercover FBI agent working out of the Manassas, Virginia, FBI field office; the agent is referred to as "OCE" in the 9-page affidavit against Sprinkle that was filed Friday.

A trans woman who copped to slaughtering her parents tried to skip out on her sentencing in a Utah court because it would be too tough on her — as she revealed that she has converted to Islam, and made an excuse for the cold-blooded murders on Friday.
"If only I had gotten help this would have been preventable," said Mia Bailey’s lawyer — reading a statement she wrote.
Bailey, 30, was handed a sentence of 25 years to life in prison on Friday, after the court heard emotional testimony from both her brothers, who say they fear for their lives since their sibling gunned down both their parents in 2024.
Prior to the sentencing, Bailey tried to skip the hearing, claiming she could have a mental breakdown from the stress of the hearing.
Her attorney, Ryan Stout, said Bailey had been previously diagnosed with ADHD, OCD, anxiety, depression, psychosis, possible bipolar with psychosis and schizophrenia.
"The most recent time she committed herself [to the hospital], she was discharged three days later, and 10 days later she murdered her parents," Stout said during the hearing.
During her statement, she told the court she converted to Islam.
She also legally changed her name and sex about a year before the murders.
"Because of my religious beliefs as a Muslim, it would be appropriate to take my life for atonement for what I did," said Bailey in the statement read by her attorney.
I suspect the former Collin Bailey put even less study into preparing for his new religion than he did into preparing for his new gender.

The Nasarawa State Police Command has confirmed that two people were killed during an armed robbery attack along Gadar Bala, Doma-Yelwa road on Wednesday night.
Zagazola gathered from sources that, a 911 truck carrying goods and passengers from Rukubi town was attacked by unknown hoodlums at about 11:30 p.m.
Sources said that the assailants opened fire on the truck, fatally injuring the driver, Yusuf Dogara, male, of Madawaki Ward, Doma, and a passenger, Nano Gideon, female, of Akaba Agyaragu town, Obi Local Government Area.
The sources added that Patrol teams, supported by vigilante groups and local hunters, were immediately dispatched to the scene. The injured were evacuated to General Hospital Doma, but both victims were pronounced dead on arrival.
Their bodies were deposited at the hospital mortuary, while other injured passengers received treatment and are responding to care.
Police confirmed that investigations are ongoing to apprehend the fleeing perpetrators, and urged members of the public to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities in the area.

The manual called "The Blue Flame" was issued in Dhahran back in the late 50's early 60's. (It might still be available for downloading at the Library of Congress). Aramco issued all stainless stills to a few employees for just 100 Riyals way back when...., rather than have each of us try to weld their own and have them blow up on the kitchen stove due to poor welding that leaked ethanol over time. 172 was the "key" number. 4 runs made excellent white. Never drank single or 2 run junk. Brown was made by soaking white in oak chips. Brown and coke was the main drink in Dhahran, RT, Abqaiq and Udhaliyah. My still was an original 1958 one with full copper coils on a 5 ft tower. RT stainless from the refinery. Kept it going for over 35 years in Dhahran. Old Bill Owen (long gone now) was the lawyer that wrote up the laws for alcohol in the Kingdom. The strategy was, that a person could do essentially just 4 things with White: Make it, transport it, sell it and consume it. So the laws were tactically written to simply just prohibit transporting it and selling it. Thus Aramcon's could legally make it and consume it all those decades in their homes with friends. Even today. Those days in the oil field were truly terrific. Every year was like 1959, up until the early 90's. Untouched and unknown from the rest of the world. I was fortunate to be the last American Aramcon hired while it was totally American owned, Aramco, before it turned into Saudi Aramco. It really was like being in the last colonial outpost. Those days are now over, unfortunately.... It was good while it lasted.

Amazing story! Is there another ARAMCOn on here? My experience in Dhahran in the late 60s was that many homes had a still in the house - after all, those Petroleum Engineers know a bit about creating distillation columns.
I never heard of that book, but I will look it up.

Aramco drawing No: 1 is of the standard still approved by Dhahran. I'd say approved by Aramco, but that's not legally correct. I just tried to post a part of the drawing. Hope it uploads correctly

There were so many "spooky" operations in Aramco over the years it would make your head spin. Here an article on one of them that was totally true. Many of the explosives were kept for a short while in the lower basement floors of the company's hospital for reason that have to be explained here at a later time. Not now. Search using the terms: "Aramco War Plan to Keep Soviet Hands Off". There were dozens of similar activities over the years.

Passengers said the captain had explained that the left engine of the aircraft 'stopped working mid-flight.'
However, Air France referred to the incident as an 'engine failure'.
An industry expert explained that it is a case of 'engine surge' where the crew is forced to 'shut down the engine' after air pockets form within it and create vibrations, according to Le Parisien.
The crew ultimately decided to divert flight AF 7721 from Paris to Ajaccio to Lyon during the incident this weekend.
The airline stated that the decision was taken 'in accordance with the manufacturer's procedures, the company's instructions, and the precautionary principle.'
Passengers were forced to take a replacement flight at 10:40pm, which brought them to Bastia, and from there a bus to Ajaccio, where they arrived at 3am.
The landing in Lyon 'went normally on a single engine,' according to the expert.
