[IsraelTimes] A person detained over the shooting that killed two students at Brown University is to be released, US officials say, adding the manhunt has resumed for a suspect.
A shooter opened fire on Saturday at the elite Ivy League university in Providence, Rhode Island, in a building where exams were taking place, triggering a campus lockdown and launching an hours-long hunt for the suspect.
US authorities early on Sunday detained a person of interest in the mass shooting that also wounded nine others, the latest in a long line of school attacks in the United States.
Brown University President Christina Paxson confirmed in a letter to community members that all 11 victims were students.
“Shortly, we will be releasing the person of interest who had been detained earlier today,” Providence Mayor Brett Smiley says.
“I think it’s fair to say there’s no basis to consider him a person of interest,” Rhode Island Attorney General Peter Neronha tells reporters. “That’s why he’s being released.”

Cook was a sophomore from Alabama, the state's Lt. Governor Will Ainsworth said in a post on X. She was vice president of Brown's College Republicans, according to the College Republicans of America.
"Ella was a devoted Christian and a committed conservative who represented the very best of Alabama," Ainsworth said. "A bright future was ended much too soon."

The American Uzbekistan Association said in a post on social media that Mukhammad Aziz Umurzokov was killed in the shooting.
"MukhammadAziz was known for his sharp intellect, kind heart, and quiet willingness to help anyone in need," the organization said. His curiosity, discipline, and generosity reflected both his character and the values of the community that raised him."
"He had a future filled with promise, and his life was cut short far too soon," it said. "His passing has left an immeasurable void in the hearts of his family, friends, classmates, and the broader Uzbek American community."
[KTLA] Legendary Hollywood director-actor Rob Reiner and his wife were found dead inside the couple’s Brentwood home in an apparent homicide Sunday, KTLA has confirmed.
Medical personnel with the Los Angeles Fire Department received a call at around 3:38 p.m. and responded to the 200 block of South Chadbourne Avenue for medical aid.
Investigators with the Los Angeles Police Department told KTLA that firefighters found Rob, 78, and Michele, 68, inside the home suffering suffering from stab wounds.
The couple’s daughter was at the scene, though the suspect, possibly her brother, had left the area before police arrived.
Officials with the Los Angeles Police Department confirmed to KTLA that officers responded to the scene at around 4:20 p.m. Sunday, though no information about the nature of the emergency call was provided.
"Robbery Homicide Division responded to the residence, which has been identified as the home of Rob Reiner," LAPD said on X. "At this time, no further details are available as this is an ongoing RHD investigation, into an apparent homicide."
The 78-year-old’s Hollywood career spans some 50 years, with his iconic role as Meathead in the late 1970s hit CBS sitcom "All in the Family" and a series of hit movies he directed, including "This is Spinal Tap," "The Princess Bride" and "When Harry Met Sally."

We'll see if they investigate the hate crime aspect of this. Rob Reiner starred on a show that didn't exactly portray American whites in the best light. My prediction is the whole thing gets quietly dropped. I saw a clip a while back of Archie Bunker in his armchair spewing hate and the young people watching it who didn't know Archie was the model of a disgusting bigot, they were saying he was "based".

[Breitbart] Federal agents in San Antonio shut down a bomb‑making lab Friday, arresting career criminal Dustin Jay Ammons, who authorities say used homemade pipe bombs to blast open ATM machines in a string of violent bank robberies.
The raid, carried out on a San Antonio home, resulted in the arrest of a suspect believed to have planted pipe bombs used in the robberies of ATMs at two San Antonio-area banks. On Friday, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives (ATF) arrested Dustin Jay Ammons, a career criminal, and discovered an explosives lab in his north San Antonio home, ATF officials stated.
According to the Department of Justice, Ammons is suspected of committing the robberies that occurred on September 12 and September 26, where pipe bombs were used to breach external ATMs at two San Antonio banks. The investigation led authorities to his northside home, where ATF agents, assisted by the FBI, San Antonio Police Department, and Bexar County Fire Department, converged to execute a search warrant on Friday.
During the operation, ATF agents discovered supplies inside Ammon’s garage that were consistent with making Pentaerythritol Tetranitrate (PETN), a chemical found at the scene of the earlier ATM robberies. According to the DOJ, agents also found parts of a pipe bomb inside a vehicle at the scene of the raid, inside Ammon’s vehicle. The vehicle matched the description of a vehicle connected to the September robberies.
Authorities also discovered a .40 caliber pistol in Ammon’s closet, a short-barreled 9mm rifle, and bomb-making equipment during the operation.
Ammons’ latest arrest is far from his first encounter with law enforcement. Among other arrests, he has a colorful criminal history that includes arrests and convictions for various theft-related offenses in Texas and in Florida. In 2014, Ammons pleaded guilty to charges related to the theft of more than $127,000 in diamonds and watches from a Costco in San Antonio. A local news report described the crime in which Ammons and an associate knocked a hole in the wall of the Costco to gain access. Court records show Ammons bypassed motion sensors and gained access to the jewelry cabinets by firing an air pistol to shatter the glass. As part of a plea agreement, Ammons was sentenced to seven years in prison and ordered to pay $10,000 in restitution to the business.
In 2021, Ammons was arrested by Hillsborough County Sheriff’s deputies in Brandon, Florida, after he and another person were discovered on the roof of a Best Buy electronics store with empty duffel bags, burglary tools, and a ladder. Authorities suspected Ammons was attempting to burglarize the store when he was interrupted. Ropes were found dangling from the ceiling of the business, but the duo that included Ammons was unable to successfully enter the company before being arrested.
At present, due to Ammon’s previous criminal record, he is facing charges of being a felon in possession of a firearm and one count of possession of an unregistered destructive device. According to the U.S. Attorney for the Western District of Texas, he faces up to 15 years in prison under current federal law.

The woman at the centre of the sprawling scam, 44-year-old Mariana Mijailovic, has vanished without a trace even as police continue digging through a treasure trove found beneath her home outside Vienna.
Mijailovic - now officially listed among Europe's most wanted fugitives - allegedly built her fortune by persuading affluent women on the streets of Munich and Vienna that their jewellery was 'cursed'.
Prosecutors say she and her 30-year-old daughter-in-law, Anna, preyed on fear, staging elaborate warnings of disaster that would befall their families unless the precious items were subjected to shamanic cleansing rituals.
The pitch proved effective. In one case, a victim surrendered £502,000 after being told by Mijailovic that she was possessed.
Another woman, desperate for a miracle cure for her cancer, handed over £49,000, but investigators noted that she later died.
At least 19 victims are believed to have been targeted over a decade, with losses estimated at £8.3million.
The pair allegedly disappeared the moment their victims relinquished their valuables - before swiftly moving on to their next target.
But when officers finally raided the family's estate in Maria Enzersdorf in February, they discovered that the money had not gone far. Police stumbled across a hidden chamber beneath a concrete-topped swimming pool which could only be accessed through a trapdoor. The room was stacked with 25kg of gold bars, jewellery, watches, and wads of US and Swiss cash.
Investigators also seized 14 luxury cars worth £280,000 - including an Aston Martin, two Jaguars, and three BMWs - bringing the tally of recovered assets to roughly £7.3million.
Another £873,000 was frozen in bank accounts.
Inside the home were Mijailovic's 29-year-old son and her 48-year-old ex-husband, both of whom insisted they were humble self-employed real estate agents. Officers arrested the men along with Anna - identified in court as Dona D, and already carrying three previous fraud convictions. All three were charged in Vienna with aggravated commercial fraud, criminal organisation, and money laundering.
Mijailovic herself, however, was nowhere to be found. Police have now issued a £4,300 reward for information that leads to her arrest. iEuropol added her profile on Wednesday to its most-wanted list, describing her as a woman of Serbo-Croatian descent, 5ft 4, with dyed hair, brown eyes and 'very full lips.'
In court the same day, Anna was sentenced to four years without parole after admitting involvement in the conspiracy. The two men received three-year sentences.
But in a twist that stunned observers, the court ruled the family will only have to repay £1.5million. Prosecutors, it said, could not prove that the rest of the assets were directly linked to the fraud.
Defence lawyer Alexander Prenner insisted the family wealth had legitimate origins.
'There is ample evidence that this family is wealthy,' he said, claiming the money came from inheritance, gifts, and the men's real estate ventures.
He added that the defendants had lived 'very frugally.'

HUD Secretary Scott Turner went on Fox News this week to discuss the report released earlier this year. As someone who rented an apartment in northern Virginia in an area where the Biden administration moved many illegal aliens, particularly Afghans, from 2021 through 2022, I can attest to another problem from the number of rentals needed for foreigners. Whenever the government comes in and starts paying for rentals, the owners of the apartments tend to raise prices for everybody, including citizens.

Besoeker, I lived in a 1 bedroom apartment in Marietta and my rent was going to go up by over $00/month with just my wife and I. I could walk by and see in the same size apartment and see in since they left their front doors open, the migrants literally had multiple bunk beds in the living room, so I imagine there were a lot more in the bedroom.Had to move to a duplex so my rent went up $600/month and am still surrounded by them. They all drive $70,000 or more trucks and do not seem to have any problems. Can't get through the ICE hotline.

Chris: You could do better if you worked for cash (no state or fed) tax deductions, went to the hospital emergency room for meds and routine treatment, collected govt rent subsidies and food stamps, and became an "uninsured motorist,"

I haven't paid income taxes since 2008 and don't plan on it. I actually do remodeling in the Buckhead and Sandy springs etc area, also have done the car detailing and whatever. IWILL NOT pay any income taxes at any level. I'm a white male so any "help"from the government is out of the question.

It is almost like all those 'land developing companies' who spent that year buying up all the housing properties, which drove up prices in a major way, were on the in with this human trafficking racket.
Was talking to a dude who attends a weekend resort annually with like minded individuals. Dude said, "Not to sound stereotypical but there is a couple who attends, Indian, buys old hotels, who were struggling until the human trafficking, then they were made, getting 3x usual rent." Dude wasn't being jealous, happy for his friend, but wow.

Nothing to apologize for, chris dear. You’re absolutely right to be frustrated about the situation. It was deliberately engineered to give the hiring class really cheap and uncomplaining labour. But 2 million of your competitors have already left the country — 1.5 mil voluntarily and half a mil dragged out in handcuffs — with considerably more to come.
So it will get better.
On the work side opportunities and higher pay should show up for you fairly quickly. The rental side will probably take considerably longer, as the 20/apartment falls to 10 per, then 5 per… only going back on the market when the last one leaves and the owner has spent a shocking amount of time andmoney to repair and redecorate after all the wear and tear. On the other hand, you might get hired for some of that work, too.

...The problem is, I think we may still have to go in and pull their asses out of the fire for a third time - the Russians won't get through Poland or Finland, but they can hurt them very badly and them occupying parts of Sweden and Norway would be a nightmare.

We might consider the imperialist ambitions of people like von der Leyen, Starmer, Merz and Macron. They kept pushing to bring Ukraine into NATO and the EU even after Putin told them it would mean war. They must have sensed weakness in Russia in spite of all their protests about Putin's aggressive aims.
But another possible explanation appeared here on Rantburg yesterday.
It may appear reckless for Merz to expand military spending on a grand scale while the country is in economic decline, but there is more to that decision than meets the eye. Germany and other EU countries benefit from the prolonged war in Ukraine because it offers a rationale for a massive injection of borrowed cash into their economies. Market demand is not an issue for European arms makers, who are experiencing an unprecedented windfall. There is hardly any competition, thanks to no-bid government contracts. Pricing is arbitrary, and the high cost of energy and labor that is killing other sectors is more than offset by sky-high profit margins.
In other words, EU leaders are using the war in Ukraine as an excuse to apply Keynesian stimulus to increase aggregate demand, and thus to ameliorate the historic economic downturn. The formula is reminiscent of the way Hitler’s deficit financing made a massive rearmament program possible in the 1930s, eliminating unemployment. This also may explain why the leaders of the Coalition of the Willing have a powerful incentive to claim that “a militarized Russia poses a persistent threat to European security for the foreseeable future.”

Historically Europe has been engaged in hyperviolent internal warfare for couple thousand years. So much so that they constructed "rules" of conduct for war, something really not found in other parts of the world, so they could keep having wars. Key pieces of evidence gathered under the previous administration — including credit card purchases of components used to construct the devices, as well as cell phone and vehicle activity from Jan. 5 — led investigators to Cole.
If Cole’s arrest proves to have solved the mystery of who planted the bombs, it presents another perhaps even more consequential question: Why did it take law enforcement so long to find him? ...I wouldn't expect the FBI 'leadership' to be any more competent at its job than the uniform military 'leadership' to be at theirs. The whole Human Resources model is not optimized for anything more than mediocrity at best.
