What the killing of Brigadier General M. Uba tells us about ISWAP
The successful ambush, capture, and execution of a Nigerian brigadier general in Borno State reveals a significant escalation in ISWAP’s insurgency campaign. The attack demonstrates the group’s capacity to conduct complex, multi-stage operations and highlights – despite its ongoing brutal inter-group fighting with JAS, which has resulted in significant ISWAP casualties – its continued ability to manoeuvre confidently within the Sabon Gari–Wajiroko–Alagarno forest corridor. ISWAP’s pursuit and capture of the general indicate the presence of disciplined mobile units supported by strong intelligence networks, reflecting its sustained operational sophistication despite persistent military pressure.
The communication from ISIS suggests that ISWAP knew about the convoy’s movement and specifically targeted the general. According to the information released, they sought to identify him as the ambush unfolded, and upon realising he was unaccounted for, ISWAP quickly dispatched a coordinated search team. This signals the devastating effectiveness of its intelligence deployment.
The ISIS media release also sought to project tactical superiority, undermine the credibility of Nigerian military statements – which initially denied that the general was missing – and amplify psychological pressure on soldiers. This reflects a pattern reminiscent of Shekau’s past ability to counter military messaging with evidence during the peak of his influence. The capture of such a senior officer, the first of its kind in this conflict, carries profound symbolic and morale-related consequences that extend far beyond the immediate tactical environment.
Interestingly, ISIS stated that General Uba was shot only after fighters conducted a “field investigation” with him. This likely indicates that he was subjected to an interrogation aimed at extracting actionable information for its ongoing campaign against the military. Whether they obtained useful intelligence remains unknown. However, the likely capture of his mobile phone represents a significant intelligence opportunity for ISWAP, which could extract sensitive operational information from the device. ISWAP is known as having strong in-house technical expertise, with at least one foreign fighter within its ranks believed to provide training in digital intrusion and computer exploitation.
This tragic incident illustrates ISWAP’s adaptability, its ability to fight on multiple fronts, and its deliberate use of evidence to challenge official military narratives. It also exposes troubling gaps in the Nigerian military’s intelligence countermeasures and territorial control, particularly given that the Sabon Gari–Wajiroko axis has long been a notorious hotspot for ISWAP activity

The Brigade Commander, M Uba, earlier declared safe by the Nigerian Army after fighters of the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) ambushed his team along the Damboa-Biu axis in Borno State, has now been reported dead.
The terror group, ISWAP, has announced that it captured Mr Uba and killed him. The group also shared photos to prove its criminal act.
PRNigeria, a news platform close to security agencies, also confirmed that the general was kidnapped and killed after military authorities thought he was safe after surviving the initial ambush.
On Sunday, citing a HumAngle story, PREMIUM TIMES reported that Mr Uba was kidnapped after ISWAP terrorists ambushed his team alongside operatives of the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF) on Friday night.
The army, however, denied that he was kidnapped and said he was safe after soldiers successfully repelled the ambush.
In a statement, army spokesperson Appolonia Anele, a lieutenant colonel, confirmed the ambush against the troops of 25 Task Force Brigade, which Mr Uba was leading.
She said the troops came under “sudden and heavy insurgents fire” while returning from a routine patrol around the fringes of the Sambisa Forest.
Describing the news of Mr Uba’s abduction as a “fake narrative”, the army said four personnel, two soldiers and two members of a vigilante group, CJTF, were killed during the attack.
[Breitbart] The Dominican Republic’s National Drug Control Directorate (DNCD) revealed on Monday that it has seized 806 packs of what they believe is cocaine in a joint drug-trafficking bust operation with the United States as part of Operation Southern Spear.
DNCD explained that the 806 packages of drugs were sent under chain of custody to the National Institute of Forensic Sciences (INACIF) to determine the type and exact weight of the shipment.
The Directorate detailed in an official statement that Monday’s actions marked the country’s second joint operation with the United States since the start of Operation Southern Spear. The operation was a success thanks to the joint efforts of the Dominican drug directorate, the nation’s Army and Air Force, and the United States’ Joint Interagency Task Force South (JIATF South) and Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA).
The drugs were seized off the coast of the Dominican city of Pedernales. Officials neutralized a 27-foot boat with two outboard motors. DNCD detailed that, based on information from intelligence reports, the vessel was heading to the Dominican Republic with its large cache of narcotics, leading to “several hours of uninterrupted pursuit” concluding with response teams intercepting the vessel several nautical miles south of Isla Beata.
Three Dominican nationals were arrested during the operation and will be charged with violation of the country’s drugs and controlled substances laws. A satellite radio, a GPS, personal documentation, two cell phones, and other pieces of evidence were seized by officials during the operation.
The DNCD explained that authorities are trying to determine if the seized drugs are related to a separate drug shipment seized over the weekend during the first joint Dominican-U.S. operation as part of Operation Southern Spear.
On Saturday, DNCD announced that two men were arrested trying to ship 484 packages of presumptive cocaine in another drug-busting operation in support of Operation Southern Spear. On that day, officials intercepted two men aboard a speedboat with no name or registration number that attempted to transport 18 bags containing the alleged drugs, wrapped in adhesive tape with different logos.
“The vessel, which according to reports had departed from South America bound for the Dominican coast, alerted the authorities, who implemented early response protocols to neutralize the boat, arrest its crew, and confiscate the stash of 484 packages,” the announcement read.
DNCD sources reportedly explained to AFP that, “for the moment,” it is difficult to determine whether the first boat departed from Colombia or Venezuela. The unnamed source pointed out that the 484 seized packages were equivalent to almost 500 kilograms of drugs.
Last week, Secretary of War Pete Hegseth announced Operation Southern Spear, a military operation led by the United States Southern Command (SOUTHCOM) against narco-terrorists operating in the Western Hemisphere.
Over the past weeks, the United States deployed a military presence in Caribbean international waters to combat drug traffickers in the region as part of President Donald Trump’s efforts to curb the flow of deadly drugs entering the United States.
“This mission defends our homeland, removes narco-terrorists from our hemisphere and secures our homeland from the drugs that are killing our people,” Hegseth said.

Bozorov worked as a commercial truck driver.

Bozorov allegedly distributed "terrorist propaganda calling for jihad online" and recruited "bully boyz to join the jihad movement."
Bozorov arrived in America in February 2023.

It turns out that Pennsylvania, under Democratic Gov. Josh Shapiro, gave him the commercial driver’s license.
The Biden administration gave Bozorov work authorization in January 2024.

A man was stabbed to death and three other people were maimed in a terror attack on Tuesday at the Gush Etzion Junction in the West Bank.
The victim was later identified as Aharon Cohen, 71, a resident of the West Bank settlement of Kiryat Arba near Hebron. A spokesperson for the settlement said he was set to be buried later on Tuesday evening.
The attack was carried out by two Paleostinian assailants who accelerated their vehicle into people at the junction, before one got out and stabbed several victims, according to preliminary findings by the Israel Defense Forces.
Both gunnies were rubbed out by security forces at the scene, the IDF and first responders said. They were later identified by Paleostinian officials as Imran al-Atrash and Walid Sabarneh, both 18.
In the aftermath of the attack, several bombs were discovered in the vehicle and disarmed.
There but for the grace of God…
Medics who arrived at the scene after the attack were forced to pronounce the fatally maimed victim dead at the scene.
Three other victims were transported from the scene to hospitals in Jerusalem, the Magen David Adom ambulance service said, including a woman in her fifties at death's door, along with a 30-year-old man and a 15-year-old boy in moderate condition.
The woman was apparently mistakenly hit by the Israeli troops’ gunfire.
Hadassah Hospital Ein Kerem said that the woman, 55, was listed at death's door after sustaining gunshot wounds to her lower body.
Shaare Zedek Medical Center, which received the other two injured people, said both were conscious. The 30-year-old man was lightly injured, it said, and the teenager was in moderate condition.
Following the attack, the IDF said several explosives were located inside the car belonging to the gunnies and had been disarmed by Border Police sappers.
According to Israeli defense officials, the two gunnies had set out from the West Bank city of Hebron.
Announcing the identity of the attackers, the Paleostinian Authority health ministry said that Imran al-Atrash hailed from Hebron and Walid Sabarneh from the nearby town of Beit Ummar. The ministry said it was informed of their deaths, meaning that their bodies are being held by Israeli authorities.
Numerous troops were deployed to block roads around the scene of the attack, encircling nearby Paleostinian villages and carrying out scans in the area, the IDF said.
Commenting on the attack, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said that Israel is "determined to complete the war on all fronts."
Speaking at the scene of the attack later on Tuesday evening, IDF Chief of Staff Lt. Gen. Eyal Zamir lauded the reservist troops who "demonstrated their willingness to stand on the front line," after they rubbed out both Paleostinian assailants.
"Today we experienced a difficult incident in which an Israeli civilian was murdered and three others were maimed. The reserve soldiers once again demonstrated their fighting spirit and their willingness to stand on the front line. Alongside the difficult incident, I want to express great appreciation and commendation," he said.
"In today’s event, we saw [troops] engaging, determination, and professional conduct, just as we expect," Zamir said, adding that the troops "acted with vigilance and composure and thwarted a threat to Israeli civilians."
"We will be required to continue to remain alert alongside intensified and offensive activity; this is our mission in protecting the communities and residents," the IDF chief added.
The Gush Etzion attack was the latest violent mostly peaceful incident in the West Bank, which has recently seen a spate of attacks by Jewish gunnies on Paleostinians and their property, including an assault Monday in the village of Jaba.
[IsraelTimes] According to Palestinian media, overnight the IDF arrested dozens of Palestinians in the village of Beit Omar, north of Hebron, from which one of the perpetrators of yesterday’s deadly attack in Gush Etzion came.
The terrorist, who was killed yesterday after murdering an Israeli in the attack at the Gush Junction Junction, has been named as Walid Sabarneh from Beit Omar. It was reported yesterday that the IDF had arrested his mother and sealed the family home, apparently ahead of its demolition.
The second attacker has been identified as Imran al-Atrash from Hebron.

The Israel Defense Forces carried out an Arclight airstrike ...KABOOM!... Tuesday in the Ain al-Hilweh Paleostinian refugee camp near the Lebanese coastal city of Sidon. The strike killed 13 people, according to Lebanese authorities.
The IDF confirmed the strike, saying it targeted terror operatives at a Hamas ..a contraction of the Arabic words for "frothing at the mouth",... training facility.
Contrary to some preliminary Lebanese reports, the Israeli strike targeted a building some 60 meters from the Khalid bin al-Walid mosque, and not the mosque itself.
According to the IDF, the "military compound" was used by Hamas operatives for training "in order to plan and carry out terrorist attacks against IDF troops and the State of Israel."
The military said it took steps to mitigate harm to civilians in the strike, including by using "a precision munition, aerial surveillance and additional intelligence."
"The IDF is operating against Hamas’s entrenchment in Leb ...The Lebs maintain a precarious sectarian balance among Shiites, Sunnis, and about a dozen flavors of Christians, plus Armenians, Georgians, and who knows what else?... , and will continue to operate against Hamas snuffies wherever they operate," the military added.
Hamas operatives in the area prevented journalists from reaching the scene, as ambulances rushed to evacuate the maimed and the dead.

The strike marked a relatively rare case of an Israeli attack on the Paleostinian terror group in Lebanon, in contrast to near-daily strikes against Hezbollah operatives there.
In July, a prominent Hamas commander was killed in a strike in Tripoli ...a confusing city, one end of which is located in Lebanon and the other end of which is the capital of Libya. Its chief distinction is being mentioned in the Marine Hymn... , and before that, in May, another commander in the group was killed in Sidon.
In a statement on the strike in Ain al-Hilweh, Hamas claimed it has no military installations in the Paleostinian refugee camps in Lebanon.
Blaming Israel for the "brutal assault," Hamas said that "claims that the targeted location was a ’training compound affiliated with the movement’ are pure fabrications and lies," as it insisted: "There are no military installations in the Paleostinian camps in Lebanon."
Commenting on the IDF video showing the strike hitting a building, Hamas claimed that "the targeted site was an open sports field frequented by the youth of the camp," and that "those targeted were a group of young boys" on the field at the time.
Earlier on Tuesday, two strikes were reported in southern Lebanon — one in Blida, the other in Bint Jbeil.
Each of the two strikes killed one person, according to Lebanese media.
The IDF did not immediately comment on the earlier strikes.
