[FoxNews] Evanston Mayor Daniel Biss boasted of warning residents about ICE and cutting traffic camera feeds
A Chicago-area mayor and congressional candidate stood by his actions to thwart even passive cooperation with federal immigration enforcement operations as DHS launches "Operation Midway Blitz" in the area.
Evanston Mayor Daniel Biss, a Democrat who is running to succeed retiring Rep. Jan Schakowsky, D-Ill., in 2026, told CNN he is "in the dark" as to DHS’ plans for Illinois in the coming days.
He also said he informed residents Tuesday about his concerns and what actions he took in response.
"The Trump administration wants to keep us guessing, wants to use our uncertainty to keep us afraid, but the reason that we communicated with our residents this morning is that I got information from a senior state official last night indicating that they had good intel that it was likely that ICE would be coming to Evanston in today and in the coming days."
Biss said he did so for residents to "protect themselves" from federal law enforcement.
"We've been doing everything we can to protect our residents from before Donald Trump took office, passing strong sanctuary laws to make sure police are not cooperating with federal civil immigration enforcement," he added.
Biss explained he ordered Evanston’s license plate cameras turned off after learning the data was being shared.
Unlike red light cameras, which issue tickets, license plate readers are often used to collect and store vehicle data for later retrieval. In some cases, state or federal law enforcement might use the data to track a suspect’s known vehicle, finding that it navigated a certain interchange at a specific time.
In a separate video Biss recorded while leaving a Mexican Independence Day parade in Chicago, he said he used his "rapid response training to keep an eye out for potential ICE personnel" during the event and "if possible, keep people safe from attack."
"My responsibility was to see which masked individual might, with no warning, just grab people off the street [or] which uniformed personnel might, without warning, attack our people."
"We're going to remember for a long time what we did in this moment. Let's do the right thing," Biss said.
Separately, Biss added that authoritarianism is not creeping into society, it "is here."
"History will remember how Chicago stood in solidarity in this moment. Stay strong, stay safe," he said.

Nadine Menendez was convicted in April of accepting bribes worth hundreds of thousands of dollars in exchange for her husband, former Senator Bob Menendez, using his political influence to benefit Egyptian officials and New Jersey businessmen.
She was found guilty on all 15 counts, including bribery and fraud, it added.
Bob Menendez, who served as a U.S. Senator from New Jersey for 18 and a half years and chaired the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, is now serving an 11-year prison sentence for taking bribes, extortion and acting as an agent of the Egyptian government.
[FoxNews] The former president is seeking $200 million to $300 million for a library project but faces resistance from the party's major contributors.
More than half a dozen people who were once major Biden donors or fundraisers spoke to NBC News. Most said they have no animosity toward the former president, but they either would not give to the library or would only give a limited amount.
The donors pointed to several factors, including not wanting to make themselves a target of the Trump administration and reserving their money for the Democratic Party’s future. Some of them said they had personal interactions with Biden’s inner circle that were so unpleasant they believed it would be difficult to ever raise significant funds for the former president.
"I’d like him to have some nice library," one donor told NBC News. "I just don’t see that’s where I’m going to spend my money."
Biden also faces residual frustration from the party over his decision to initially seek re-election despite health issues that ultimately led to him dropping out of the race last summer after his highly scrutinized mental acuity was put on display during a presidential debate against Donald Trump. Former Vice President Kamala Harris then quickly secured the party's nomination before losing to Trump in November.
"I want an $800,000 refund," personal injury lawyer John Morgan told NBC News, referring to money he said he raised for Biden that went to Harris last year.
Susie Buell, a major donor to the party, told the outlet nobody had asked for her donation but that she is "not inclined to give to libraries."
The chairman of the library board, Rufus Gifford, who led fundraising for Biden’s re-election campaign and was finance director for former President Barack Obama, expressed optimism that donors will want to contribute.
One person familiar with the Biden team’s plans said the project seeks between $200 million and $300 million.
By comparison, the Obama Presidential Library set to open in Chicago in the spring cost $850 million. President Donald Trump has also raised millions of dollars for a future library, and the luxury jet gifted to the U.S. government by the Qatari royal family will later be transferred to a Trump library foundation — both moves scrutinized by Democrats.
"It is my opinion no significant building will be built," Morgan said, adding that Biden’s age and medical issues could mean the former president might not be much help in raising money for the library.
"Couple that with the perception that [the party’s] woes rest with his decision to seek a second term, and we have the Hindenburg heading straight towards us."

After that debate with Trump when it became clear to everybody that the man was not all there, it also became clear that the people who supported him, put him in that position and denied anything was wrong with him were crooked liars. They knew and after the debate everybody knew. Now he is not only no longer useful, he is an embarrassment and they want him to be forgotten.

[Breitbart] Sen. Bill Hagerty (R-TN) announced that a federal and state operation led to the arrest of more than 500 criminals and could serve as a model to crack down on crime across the country.
Hagerty told Breitbart News in an interview that Operation Viper had just come to a close on Friday, which happened as the result of conversations with Memphis Mayor Paul Young (D) as well Gov. Bill Lee (R).
He first started talking to Young about fixing crime in November 2024.
Viper utilized both state and federal resources to help Mayor Young in the second biggest city in the Volunteer State. Next steps may include utilizing Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA), and Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms (ATF), and even
the Internal Revenue Service (IRS).
With all that, will they need the addition of President Trump’s National Guard units? Or would it be better to send the troops somewhere in greater need?
TheTennessee senator said it has yielded staggering results.
“We’ll have north of 500 arrests. We’ll have north of 100 federal indictments, and those indict, those indictment numbers grow as they work up the cases,” he explained.
Hagerty added, “The governor has stepped up with state resources, and the mayor’s Police Department has been extremely focused on cracking down on this.”
He continued, “I’ve been very focused. And, the mayor has been very clear with me, to give him credit, been very clear with me that we have to leave a long term solution in place, meaning Memphis has for years been short in terms of the number of police,” saying that the project would help make Memphis one of the safest cities in the country.”
Hagerty started working on the Memphis crime issue last November and has been leading with federal, state, and local officials to lower crime in the city.
Hagerty said, “I think it absolutely can prove the model. And also I think what it will prove is this, if you can set partisanship aside and just just focus on an end result that everybody wants to see. And again, the partisans may not be happy in Memphis, but the citizens of Memphis will be safe. That that’s the goal.”
He remarked, “If we go ahead and just take take the benefit of this, this full menu of resources that are being made available, then I think what we’ll see is the ability then to sustain something on the very long term. And that’s been my pledge, and that’s Governor Lee’s pledge, is that we will make certain the resources are in place there over the long haul to maintain the safety.”
Hagerty said he is working with the mayor on potential federal legislative solutions that could further work to limit crime across the nation. He said that, with the assassination of Turning Points USA founder Charlie Kirk, this news may serve as a “bright light.”
He explained, “I just think that in the wake of a lot of tragedy, a somber moment with 9/11, with Charlie’s demise, and then this, I hope what we see is a bright light here. Memphis is a great city, and we have an opportunity here to make certain that it’s the safest city in America. And I couldn’t be more pleased or appreciative to have the support of President Trump.”
Hagerty said, “In that regard, I’ve had the full support of the executive branch. Certainly, the governor has made every resource available to this as well, and the city has been willing to work with us at every level to try to –this has been a concern. The mayor ran on this, ran on public safety, and had already, already already had an effort underway. It was already making progress, and we just added to that with this Project Viper, which I think has proven very successful. And every time we demonstrate success, we’re going to have more resources to move forward.”

Republicans triggered the "nuclear option" to change the rules of the Senate on a party-line basis Thursday, a move that will allow them to speed up confirmation of President Donald Trump's nominees for key executive branch positions.
The vote was 53-45 to establish a new rule that allows the Senate to confirm an unlimited number of nominees en bloc, rather than process each one individually.
The rule applies to executive branch nominees subject to two hours of Senate debate, including subcabinet picks and ambassadors. It will not affect judicial nominations. Republicans say they'll allow their own senators to object to individual nominees in any given block, but the rule will strip away the power of the minority party to do the same thing.
This is what we voted for: A GOP that will play hardball. And what's more, the caucus seems to be holding together pretty well, as we might assume from the 53-45 vote, although the roster has not been released as of this writing.

It said Talwani, an appointee of Democratic President Barack Obama I inhaled. That was the point... , used "flimsy" reasoning to conclude the law constituted an unconstitutional "bill of attainder." Flimsy reasoning capability is why she was nominated and approved
A bill of attainder is a legislative act prohibited by the Constitution that seeks to inflict punishment on a person or group without a trial. The Supreme Court has only invalidated laws passed by Congress five times under that clause, the Justice Department said.
What this means is that Medicaid does not have to continue funding Planned Parenthood clinics while this case continues. Planned Parenthood is probably going to have to shutter a bunch more clinics now that they've been cut off. But government funding is under the control of congress and it's congress that cut them off. Judge Talwani's attempts to overrule congress (and the president who signed the bill) won't stand.

A bill of attainder is a legislative act prohibited by the Constitution that seeks to inflict punishment on a person or group without a trial.
Um... funding isn't guaranteed under the constitution and it is the job of congress to grant or remove funds, or to allow the executive to do so. This "judge" is really grasping at legal straws to keep them operational. I vote we abort her.
