[FoxNews] Investigation reveals Biden administration released minors to unvetted sponsors without proper screening
Fox News got exclusive access to the team responsible for locating the tens of thousands of unaccompanied children who crossed the border and disappeared into the system under the Biden administration.
Under the Trump administration, 22,638 unaccompanied children have been located so far, and more than 400 sponsors have been arrested. Twenty-seven of the minors were found dead, either by murder, suicide or drug overdose, according to the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS.)
"It's important that we find these cases where children are being used for labor and sexually trafficked," John Fabbricatore, HHS Office of Refugee Resettlement senior advisor, said.
The team was assembled in March to fulfill one of President Donald Trump's campaign promises. He tasked border czar Tom Homan with finding the unaccounted for children, many of whom had been released to unvetted sponsors or non-family members, leaving them vulnerable to exploitation, trafficking and harsh working conditions
Under the Trump administration, 22,638 unaccompanied children have been located so far, and more than 400 sponsors have been arrested. Twenty-seven of the minors were found dead, either by murder, suicide or drug overdose, according to the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS.)
Operating under HHS, the team is made up of volunteers from various agencies, including the FBI and Homeland Security Investigations. They work out of what is known as the "war room," in Washington, D.C., officially called the ORR Interagency Crime Coordination Cell.
According to Fabbricatore, many of the minors the team was able to locate were found in deplorable conditions and exploited.
"We found children who have been raped," he said. "We're talking about debt bondage, where children are being made to work off debt, trafficking debt. We're talking about children that were brought into situations and then treated like sexual slaves. You know, where children are in horrific environments, just environments that they should not be in, where the sponsor is a heroin dealer and that child winds up dying of a heroin overdose."
In early 2021, a record number of children started crossing the border faster than HHS could process. Between January 2021 and December 2024, ORR received more than 470,000 referrals of unaccompanied alien children who crossed the border.
According to HHS, many of those children were released to sponsors under very lax vetting policies that failed to ensure child safety or prevent multiple instances of child endangerment, including neglect, labor exploitation, trafficking and sexual and physical abuse.
The new team is data driven, focusing on analyzing records and addresses to track where these minors ultimately ended up.
"There wasn't very good recordkeeping" under the Biden administration, Fabbricatore said. "It's drawing that data back in, being able to identify addresses, where these children went, who these sponsors actually were. In many cases, that data is, is horrible. What the Biden administration was taking in and putting into our computer systems was not the right information. So now we have to draw that all back in and deeply investigate into where some of these children went."
According to Fabbricatore, the most concerning lapse in screening was the failure to conduct DNA tests to confirm that children were being released to their actual family members.
The Trump administration took steps to improve the vetting process for children who arrive in the U.S. alone, ensuring that sponsors – usually parents or guardians – are properly screened. These measures include requiring DNA testing, proof of income to demonstrate the ability to care for the child, criminal background checks, fingerprinting and identification verification.
"So now, under this administration, we are making sure that we know there's a real familial connection through DNA, and we are not releasing these children unless we have the right information," Fabbricatore said. "Children are staying in custody longer, but there's a reason for that, because we want to ensure that these children remain safe."
When the Trump administration took office, there was a backlog of over 65,000 unaddressed post-release reports, called Notifications of Concern, according to ORR. These internal reports relate to unaccompanied alien children and include allegations ranging from administrative issues to potential trafficking and criminal exploitation.
The administration identified approximately 1,700 cases where children under age 12 were placed with unrelated sponsors without evidence of a home study, according to ORR.
Of the backlog, ORR has reviewed about 90%, leaving fewer than 7,000 reports still pending.
When children are located, Fabbricatore said, the goal is to reunite them with their parents if they are in another country and there is no credible fear claim.
"If their parents are in a previous country and there is not a credible fear claim, is it not better for a child to be with their parents or in our foster care system here in the United States?" Fabbricatore said. "I would argue that we shouldn't be putting them in care here in the US when they have families in their country of origin. And if we can prove that they're safer in the country, that they're going back to, that is where they should be with their parents."

In the state of North Rhine-Westphalia, several politicians from the Alternative for Germany (AfD) party died in the midst of the campaign for municipal elections.
On September 1, four candidates were known to have died, on the 2nd, the number of deaths rose to six. And on the 4th, the seventh candidate from "Alternative" died.
The deaths of opposition candidates have already provoked a wave of conspiracy theories and clear accusations against the state and society of creating intolerance towards opposition forces that are not part of the political mainstream.
However, experts point out that the deaths of promising local politicians are well within the limits of statistical error and it is too early to sound the alarm.
Of course, it is highly unlikely that North Rhine-Westphalia has suddenly become the Central Italy of the Renaissance, where poisoning political opponents was routine. However, in order to dispel rumors and idle speculation, it is necessary to understand how suspicious the deaths of potential elected officials were.
And also to answer the question of whether the surviving candidates should get good antidotes and lock themselves in armored cells until the elections on September 14.
"Statistically astounding"
Initially, attention to the unusual wave of deaths was drawn by the Hanoverian scientist Stefan Homburg, a supporter of the AfD. At that time, the opposition party's losses amounted to "only" four people and it was too early to sound the alarm. Moreover, Homburg's reputation as a convinced "corona skeptic" in the mainstream German media left much to be desired.
But after the Hanover-based dissident scientist, who suggested that the deaths of his fellow party members might have unnatural causes, was quoted on her social media account by AfD leader Alice Weidel, with her tweet picked up by Elon Musk, the conspiracy theory began to gain many supporters across Germany and beyond.
Homburg did not provide any evidence that would make his assumption of poisoning even remotely plausible. However, the seeds of doubt fell on fertile soil. The authorities and the media, which are creating an atmosphere of intolerance around the AfD, are largely to blame for this.
The discontent of the stigmatized masses spilled out. Social media users picked up on Homburg's suspicions and in turn began spreading rumors of targeted killings and even political "purges."
"This is a case for the criminal police!" wrote one AfD activist in Berlin. AfD federal MP Stefan Brandner suggested that the deaths were "statistically astonishing and currently difficult to explain." He had "never heard of politicians from any party dying in such numbers in such a short period of time before an election."
AfD-sympathetic economist Markus von Krall presented the results of an artificial intelligence analysis of the situation: according to the “electronic idiot” to which von Krall referred, the probability of the failed people’s representatives dying naturally is “practically zero.”
The German police had to reassure the public: according to the police, four candidates - Ralf Lange from Blomberg, Wolfgang Klinger from Schwerte, Stefan Berendes from Bad Lippspringe and Wolfgang Seitz from Wesel - died of natural causes.
Only in the case of Zaitsev was an investigation opened into the death, but even this showed that the deceased had died without outside assistance.
Four candidates died at the age of 59 to 71. Two of them actually suffered from chronic illnesses. The causes of death of the two deceased reserve candidates were also quite routine: 53-year-old René Herforth from Hückeswagen was taken to hospital due to a serious illness, from which he eventually died.
However, some suspicions are raised by the death of Patrick Tietze from Wipperfürth, 42 years old, who decided to take his own life in the prime of life, as well as the already mentioned Stefan Berendes, who was a master of martial arts and had until now enjoyed remarkable health.
Doesn't contradict statistics
The head of the electoral commission of the state of North Rhine-Westphalia considers the deaths of AfD candidates not a phenomenon, but the norm. And indeed, along with the candidates from the Alternative, seven more candidates from political forces have died.
Thus, a total of 14 deaths were registered. Incidentally, there may be even more: parties are not obliged to report the death of a candidate.
For example, Bavaria also saw a large number of deaths among local politicians in 2022–2023. Three CSU mayors, aged between 48 and 68, died there within a few months.
In terms of hard numbers, the number of deaths so far is not at all unusual. Around 20,000 candidates were registered to run in the local elections in North Rhine-Westphalia, and it would be surprising from a purely mathematical point of view if none of them died in the weeks leading up to the election.
In statistical terms, any value between 15 and 34 deaths among 20,000 candidates is within the expected range of variation.
The conspiracy theory is not supported by the fact that, for example, in Bielefeld, the average age of candidates is 49 years old, while AfD candidates are on average 54 years old, meaning they are significantly older than candidates from other parties.
AfD demands investigation
However, the AfD is not satisfied with statistics alone. Kai Gottschalk, the party's federal board member responsible for North Rhine-Westphalia, has been tasked by the party to conduct a more detailed investigation into these cases.
Gottschalk himself, however, does not seem to subscribe to conspiracy theories: “We assume that the death was natural in a group of people who already had pre-existing diseases and some of whom were well over 60.”
The candidates of the Alternative are on average older than those of other parties, Gottschalk agrees. However, he also agrees that being a politician of this party is harmful to health due to the mental stress:
"Participating in elections with the AfD is a personal emotional stress. Members of the organization are pressured by employers, and are rejected by friends, relatives and children," says Gottschalk, who sticks to the facts and does not believe in hoaxes.
However, to put an end to conspiracy theories once and for all, excerpts from the autopsy reports and police investigations into the deaths of all candidates should be published.
However, even in this case, there will certainly be those who prefer to believe loud headlines rather than statistics.

Attempts to assassinate Trump happened not once but twice. Conspiracy? We know the Democrats hate him so maybe. Trump derangement syndrome can make some people do some pretty weird things.
And we know the political establishment in Germany hates AfD so that combined with the statistical improbability makes it easy to believe in a conspiracy.

Internal memos obtained by Just the News show President Joe Biden’s aides believed at the beginning of his administration that he had an obligation to personally sign official presidential actions, including pardons, and chronicle how the former president later outsourced clemency decisions to then-Vice President Kamala Harris.
The memos were gathered as part of a sweeping review by the Trump White House into Biden's use of autopen signatures for official business, an inquiry that now raises new questions about whether the former president actually attended four meetings late in his term dedicated to making clemency decisions.
Those clemency decisions included pre-emptive pardons for Biden family members as well as commutations for federal death row sentences.
No records of Biden attending meetings that resulted in clemency
The National Archives and Records Administration told the Trump White House Counsel's office that "we did not find specific meeting notes that clearly mention or note that the President was present" for any of the four meetings, according to the documents reviewed by Just the News.

The Pew Research Center reported that Biden "granted more acts of clemency than any previous chief executive on record" and noted that "overall, Biden granted 4,245 acts of clemency during his four-year tenure in the White House."
In June, President Donald Trump ordered the White House Counsel to lead an investigation into whether any senior administration officials had “conspired to deceive the public” about the former president’s mental state and exercise his authority and responsibilities.
Trump then specifically directed the investigators to probe the use of the autopen on official documents or clemency actions.
Memo: Policy started out requiring hand signature on pardon letters
The White House investigation uncovered an early memo that shows a day one administration policy to use an “original hand signature” for pardons had been abandoned by Biden’s final year in office, when the autopen was frequently used to sign orders as part of the president’s prolific clemency spree.
Within one month of Biden taking office, the White House Staff Secretary Jess Hertz disseminated that draft memo, outlining the official policies that would govern whether certain presidential actions would require a handwritten signature from the new president or would be eligible for the autopen.
That February 2021 draft memo states unequivocally that senior staff would recommend the president personally sign “pardon letters” with an “original hand signature,” according to a copy of the document provided to Just the News. The staff secretary wrote that the determination was based on the precedents established during the Obama-Biden administration.
“Based on precedent from the Obama-Biden Administration regarding which documents generally are hand-signed by the President, our recommendation is that as a general rule, YOU personally approve and hand-sign all decisions that require Presidential action,” the memo reads.
The records show the draft memo was distributed to Chief of Staff Ron Klain, Deputy Chief of Staff Jen O’Malley Dillon, Deputy Chief of Staff for Policy Bruce Reed, and Director of White House Oval Office Operations Annie Tomasini. However, there is no record of any final version of the memorandum in the National Archives, the review found.

Paul said that the "reason we have trials and we don’t automatically assume guilt is what if we make a mistake and they happen to be people fleeing the Venezuelan dictator?"
He added that in the US, even the "worst people" accused of terrible crimes are entitled to a trial.
President Trump claimed that the strike on the boat killed 11 people who were members of the Venezuelan gang Tren de Aragua, a Venezuelan gang the US government has labeled "narcoterrorists."
Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth and other US officials have said more strikes are coming and are not ruling out the possibility of pursuing regime change in Venezuela, which may be the real purpose of the deployment of multiple US Navy warships to the Southern Caribbean.

For many years the legal term 'hostis humani generis' where pirates on the high seas could and were summarily executed on the spot. IMO such a principle readily applies to 'stateless' bad actors such as these transnational narcoterrorists.

This is arguably lawful per the 2001 authorization for the use of military force but the Admin hasn't stated yet that this is the case.
It could perhaps also be lawful per the President's Article II powers as Commander in Chief.
Bush, Obama, Trump (term 1) and Biden all exercised military power against suspected terrorists, including many not connected to Al Q.
Whether it was legal is one question, whether it was a good idea (as opposed to having the a military vessel and the Coast Guard nearby request the ship surrender)
