President Donald Trump announced Friday night that he would be sending National Guard troops to New Orleans and pledged the city would be "safe" within two weeks.
The announcement follows Trump mobilized the Guard in Washington, D.C., last month to help reduce the district's crime. Trump first floated sending troops to New Orleans on Wednesday after Louisiana's Republican Gov. Jeff Landry asked the president for help, The Hill reported.
Trump did not state exactly when the troops would be sent to the southern city but confirmed plans to federalize its law enforcement in a similar manner to his administration's take over of Washington's Metropolitan Police Department.
“We’re going to come into New Orleans, and we’re going to make that place so safe,” Trump said during an event in the White House’s newly renovated Rose Garden. “It’s got a little problem right now, a couple of headaches, like murders, a lot of little murders going on, and we’re not going to stand for it. And we’re going to come in, we’re going to clean it up.”
Trump previously indicated he would send troops to Chicago next, but the state's Democratic governor and the city's Democratic mayor have both protested federal involvement.

''On 3 September 2025, a carefully planned and executed air interdiction mission struck a newly identified terrorist enclave west of Zuwa in the Sambisa general area.''

''Acting on credible intelligence and confirmatory surveillance, the mission targeted hideouts harbouring fighters and commanders responsible for recent hostilities around Bitta.''
''The strikes proved devastating, neutralizing over 15 Boko Haram Death Eaters and demolishing key structures critical to their operations,'' according to the statement.
This latest success underscores the air force's unwavering commitment to safeguarding the lives and property of Nigerians while supporting ground troops in joint operations to dismantle terrorist networks, it said.
''The Nigerian Air Force continues to stand as a symbol of vigilance, professionalism, and decisive airpower in defense of national security,'' the statement read.

[IsraelTimes] State prosecutors filed charges against a resident of Baqa al-Gharbiya accused of swearing allegiance to ISIS, police say.
The defendant, 25-year-old Najib Deek, allegedly swore allegiance to the Islamic State, joining the terror group as a member and consuming its content online — including videos of executions and beheadings.
Police say Deek had also been planning an attack against Israeli security forces, which was spurred on by his “growing religious fervor and the war in the Gaza Strip.”
But state prosecutors in the Haifa District who filed the indictment do not accuse the defendant of plotting a terror attack, and charge him solely with membership in a terrorist organization.
According to the indictment itself, the defendant “weighed the possibility” of setting off a grenade near a kiosk frequented by soldiers. He also considered traveling to Somalia to join an ISIS cell there.
Police, working off intelligence provided by the Shin Bet, arrested Deek several weeks ago. He was indicted by state prosecutors in the Hadera Magistrate’s Court.

The announcement confirmed an earlier statement from Defense Minister Israel Katz, who said Israel had issued its first formal evacuation notice to residents of a multi-story building in the city ahead of an impending strike.
"The bolt is now being removed from the gates of Hell in Gaza," Katz posted on X. "Once the door is opened, it will not be closed, and IDF operations will intensify — until Hamas’s murderers and rapists accept Israel’s conditions for ending the war, first and foremost the release of all hostages and disarmament — or be destroyed."
Katz posted his statement as the IDF expanded its ground offensive into Gaza City, with politicians framing the campaign as a decisive maneuver aimed at breaking Hamas’s remaining strongholds.
Alongside the announcement, media outlets in Gaza reported that the IDF struck the al-Mushtaha tower in Gaza City three times. Footage showed a heavy cloud of smoke at the site after residents were called to evacuate. It was unclear whether there were any casualties in the incident.
Arej Ahmed, a 50-year-old displaced Paleostinian who lives in a tent in the southwest of Gaza City, told AFP that her husband "saw residents of the Mushtaha Tower throwing their belongings from the upper floors to take them and flee before the strike."
"Less than half an hour after the evacuation orders, the tower was bombed," she said by telephone.
Israel, she added, "orders the residents of towers to evacuate, claiming it wants to avoid civilian casualties. But what about us — hundreds of thousands of displaced civilians in the tents surrounding these buildings?"

The military stressed that it issues warnings to residents and employs precision strikes to reduce the risk to civilians, while again accusing Hamas of using Gaza’s civilian population as human shields.
According to the military’s announcement, intelligence revealed that Hamas had embedded sniper and anti-tank positions, surveillance systems, command-and-control centers and observation posts inside residential buildings, while also planting explosives nearby to ambush Israeli forces.
Additionally, the terror group’s tunnels are said to run beneath and around these buildings. The IDF said the sites pose a direct threat to its troops as operations in Gaza City expand, and therefore will be struck soon.
Earlier Friday, Hamas-run authorities in Gaza said 19 people were killed in a series of Israeli strikes in and around Gaza City. When contacted by AFP, the IDF requested timeframes and coordinates to comment on specific incidents.
IDF spokesperson Brig. Gen. Effie Defrin said Thursday that Israeli forces now control roughly 40 percent of the city and intend to push further in the coming days as part of the broader plan to seize full control.
IDF Chief of Staff Eyal Zamir has repeatedly warned in private forums that the Gaza City operation will endanger the hostages, and has reportedly urged the government to accept the phased deal that Hamas said it had agreed to, shortly after Israel declared it would only accept a deal for all the hostages to be released at once.

The military also said its forces continued to strike Hamas infrastructure and operatives across the Gaza Strip, targeting sites both above and below ground while intensifying pressure on Hamas’ military wing.
In northern Gaza, forces from the 99th Division reported destroying anti-tank missile launch sites, a weapons storage facility, and additional infrastructure, while soldiers from the Nahal Brigade killed several Hamas operatives in festivities nearby.
Elsewhere, Givati Brigade troops and the 401st Armored Brigade, operating under 162nd Division, continued advancing in the Jabalia area and elsewhere on the outskirts of Gaza City, where they have eliminated terrorists, dismantled explosives and destroyed further Hamas positions.
[GEO.TV] Gaza’s Ministry of Health says that the total number of casualties of Israel’s war on Gaza since October 7, 2023, has risen to 64,300 killed and 162,005 wounded.
The ministry said Israeli forces have killed at least 69 Palestinians and wounded 422 others in Gaza over the past 24 hours.
