On Friday, the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) said that around 334 migrants of different African nationalities had been rescued off the coast of Libya.
“Some 340 refugees and migrants have been returned today to Tripoli by Libyan Coast Guard,” UNHCR tweeted.
“UNHCR and IRC (International Rescue Committee) provided urgent medical and humanitarian assistance to all survivors before being taken to detention,” UNHCR said.
Libya has become a preferred point of departure for thousands of migrants who attempt to cross the Mediterranean Sea to reach European shores.
According to the International Organization for Migration (IOM), more than 6,000 migrants have been rescued off the Libyan coast this year, including women and children.
In 2020, a total of 11,891 migrants were rescued and returned to Libya, the agency estimated, adding that 381 migrants died and 597 went missing on the central Mediterranean route during the same period.
Rescued migrants end up inside overcrowded reception centers across Libya, despite repeated international calls to close those centers.

[PRESSTV] A ranking commander of the bully boys, who fight for the Saudi Arabia ...a kingdom taking up the bulk of the Arabian peninsula. Its primary economic activity involves exporting oil and soaking Islamic rubes on the annual hajj pilgrimage. The country supports a large number of princes in whatcha might call princely splendor. Fifteen of the nineteen WTC hijackers were Saudis, and most major jihadi commanders were, to inclid Osama bin Laden. It is populated by more antagonistic tribes and factions than you can keep track of... , and a ringleader of the ISISTakfiri ...an adherent of takfir wal hijra, an offshoot of Salafism that regards everybody who doesn't agree with them as apostates who must be killed... terrorist group are killed in festivities with Yemen’s defense forces in the west-central Yemeni province of Ma’rib.
The commander was identified as Saleh Dirham Ramadi of Brigade 129 of the bully boy divisions that have been aiding the coalition on the ground since it began its war on Yemen in March 2015, the Yemen News website reported on Saturday.
The website also named the ISIS member as Saif San’ani, saying he used to act as the deputy of the terror group’s senior intelligence official in Yemen.
ISIS and its fellow Takfiri terror group of al-Qaeda have been trying to establish sweeping control over Ma’rib’s Province under widely-reported support from the coalition.
The coalition has been trying unsuccessfully to restore power to Yemen’s former Riyadh-allied officials.
Tens of thousands of Yemenis have died during the war and a simultaneous siege that the Saudi-led allies have been enforcing on Yemen.
The Yemeni forces that comprise the country’s army and Popular Committees have, however, never laid down their arms in their purpose to rid the country of the aggressors’ presence.
Last year, they liberated a strategic military base to the west of Ma’rib, a development that was followed by their overwhelming focus on the city and its surrounding province.

Putting aside the extortionate proposition of that chant, they seem to always be ignorant of the fact that the "peace" they speak of is as subjective as the "justice" they clamor for.

Put a bit differently: The chant assumes that the chanters have a monopoly on violence. But of course if the people being chanted at -- police, armed citizens -- offer any violence to the chanters, the script flips and the chanters become helpless victims of brutality. "What did you think 'no peace' means, you morons?"

Holy State, or Holy King, or Holy People's Will ...
[AlAhram] The maritime rescue group SOS Mediterranee said a ship it operates, Ocean Viking, pulled the migrants colonists to safety four days ago from two rubber dinghies
Two Italian ports faced an influx of hundreds of migrants colonists on Saturday, as a charity ship sailed toward a Sicilian port with 236 people rescued in the Mediterranean from traffickers' boats, while Italian coasties and border police brought 532 others to a tiny island.
The maritime rescue group SOS Mediterranee said a ship it operates, Ocean Viking, pulled the migrants colonists to safety four days ago from two rubber dinghies. Upon instructions from Italian authorities, the Ocean Viking was sailing to Augusta, Sicily, with its passengers, who it said included 119 unaccompanied minors.
SOS Mediterranee said some passengers told rescuers they were beaten by smugglers based in Libya and forced to embark on the unseaworthy dinghies despite high waves.
On Italia's southern island of Lampedusa, which is closer to North Africa than to the Italian mainland, Mayor Salvatore Martello said migrants colonists from four boats that needed rescue stepped ashore overnight. They were brought to safety by Italian coasties and customs police boats.
Separately, an Italian navy vessel rescued 49 migrants colonists, Italian state TV reported.
Still in the central Mediterranean Sea on Saturday was another charity boat, Sea-Watch 4, which with 308 people aboard who had been rescued in four separate operations from trafficker-launched vessels, Sea-Watch said in a statement. The first rescue, of 44 people, took place on Thursday, it said.
Sea-Watch 4 has requested a port to disembark the migrants colonists from both Italia and Malta.
``The fact that we, as a civil rescue ship, saved so many people from distress at sea in such a short time again demonstrates the fundamental rescue gap European states have created at the world's most dangerous maritime border,'' said Hannah Wallace Bowman, the head of mission for Sea-Watch 4.
Warmer weather in the spring often increases the number of vessels launched toward Europa ...the land mass occupying the space between the English Channel and the Urals, also known as Moslem Lebensraum... by Libya-based migrant traffickers.
Last month, SOS Mediterranean personnel and a merchant ship spotted several bodies from a shipwrecked dinghy, believed to have been carrying 130 migrants colonists. People on the boat had appealed for help in the waters off Libya, but no coasties vessels from Libya, Italia or Malta came to their aid, the group said. No survivors were found.
Humanitarian groups have been urging European Union ...the successor to the Holy Roman Empire, only without the Hapsburgs and the nifty uniforms and the dancing... nations to resume the deployment of military vessels on rescue patrols in the Mediterranean. After hundreds of thousands of rescued migrants colonists, many of them ineligible for asylum, were brought to Italia by ships from the coasties, navy, border police and other nations, large-scale rescue operations in the sea north of Libya were ended.
Italia has been equipping and training the Libyan coasties to rescue migrants colonists in their search-and-rescue area and to discourage traffickers.
Human rights groups and U.N. agencies have denounced inhumane treatment at Libyan detention centers, where migrants colonists rescued or intercepted by the Libyan coasties are taken. They say migrants colonists endure beatings, rapes and insufficient rations.
On Friday, the United Nation's child welfare agency said a total of 125 Europe-bound children were among those intercepted at sea earlier in the week by Libyan authorities off the Mediterranean coast. UNICEF said most of those rescued were sent to overcrowded detention centers with no or limited access to water.
``Europe can no longer remain passive in the face of recurring shipwrecks while consciously upholding a system of unspeakable abuse by supporting forced returns to Libya,'' SOS Mediterranee said.
The risk migrants colonists run of perishing at sea is high. UNICEF says at least 350 people, including children and women, have drowned or gone missing in the Mediterranean since January.
According to the Italian Interior Ministry, as of Friday, 9,000 migrants colonists had reached Italia by sea this year.
Both Italian and Maltese governments in recent years have claimed that private charity boats effectively facilitate trafficking by rescuing migrants colonists at sea. At times, rescue vessels, including commercials ones, have been kept waiting for long stretches before a safe port was assigned.
[DW] Over 100 migrants colonists were saved in the Mediterranean on Friday due to the efforts of German NGO Sea-Watch and the Italian navy. The migrants colonists were adrift at sea in rubber boats.
The Sea-Watch 4 rescue ship took in 77 people including 11 women and a baby, according to the NGO's official Twitter account. The ship recently departed the Spanish port of Burriana after it was detained by Italian authorities for months.
The Sea-Watch 4 rescued another 40 people on Thursday, with the vessel now having 121 migrants colonists on board.
In a separate mission, the Italian navy said Friday it rescued nearly 50 people from a dingy that was floating north of Tripoli ...a confusing city, one end of which is located in Lebanon and the other end of which is the capital of Libya. Its chief distinction is being mentioned in the Marine Hymn... , Libya.
On Sunday, the Italian coasties said it had also rescued over 100 migrants colonists on a fishing boat.
WHY ARE MIGRANTS COLONISTS TRAVELING ACROSS THE MEDITERRANEAN?
According to the UN, some 480 people have perished in the central Mediterranean so far this year. The migrants colonists are fleeing instability in Libya and other African countries, and also seeking better economic opportunities in Europe.
UN children's agency UNICEF said Friday that children and unaccompanied minors frequently attempt the dangerous journey across the Mediterranean. The agency said there are 65,000 underage migrants colonists living in Libya, who are frequently threatened with abuse and exploitation by traffickers and other nefarious actors.

[ENGLISH.AAWSAT] The Sick Man of Europe Turkey ...just another cheapjack Moslem dictatorship, brought to you by the Moslem Brüderbund... added cryptocurrency trading platforms to the list of firms covered by anti-money laundering and terrorism financing regulation, it said in a presidential decree published early on Saturday.
The Official Gazette said the country's latest expansion of rules governing cryptocurrency transactions would take immediate effect and cover "crypto asset service providers", which would be liable to the existing regulations.
Last month Turkey's central bank banned the use of crypto assets for payments on the grounds such transactions were risky. In the days that followed two Turkey-based cryptocurrency trading platforms were halted under separate investigations.
The probe into one of them, Thodex, led to the jailing on Thursday of six suspects including the siblings of its chief executive, Faruk Fatih Ozer, who Ottoman Turkish authorities are seeking after he traveled to Albania
The six people formally arrested included Ozer's brother and sister, as well as senior company employees, the spokeswoman for Istanbul's Anadolu prosecutor's office said, Rooters reported.
Most of those detained over the past week have been released. Others, including seven on Thursday, were let go with judicial control measures.
The Thodex platform, which had been handling daily crypto trade worth hundreds of millions of dollars, said on its website last week it would be closed for four to five days due to a sale process.
Interior Minister Suleyman Soylu said this week Turkey sent units to four countries to search for Ozer, including Albania.
"When he is caught with the red notice, we have extradition agreements with a large part of these countries. God willing he will be caught and he will be returned," he said in a televised interview with broadcaster NTV.

[AnNahar] Eighteen Iraqis, the majority military personnel, were killed overnight Friday to Saturday in separate jihadist attacks mainly in the greater Baghdad area, security sources told AFP.
There was no immediate claim of responsibility for the attacks, but they are in line with the modus operandi of the Islamic State ...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that they were al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're really very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear western pols talk they're not really Moslems.... group, which still has sleeper cells in Iraq despite its territorial defeat in 2017.
One attack targeted troops in Tarmiya, an agricultural suburb 20 kilometres (12 miles) north of the Iraqi capital.
"IS fighters attacked an Iraqi army convoy at night and killed two officers and two soldiers," a security official said, on condition of anonymity.
Reinforcements were dispatched to the area but also came under fire, with "an officer and two soldiers" killed, the source said.
A member of tribal fighters integrated into the regular forces that were then deployed to the scene was also killed, "along with a civilian caught in the crossfire", the source added.
Further north, in the central Alton Kubre region, "six peshmerga (Kurdish fighters) were killed when Islamic State group jihadists attacked their military position with light arms", another security official told AFP.
Alton Kubre is a disputed area claimed by both the federal government in Baghdad and the autonomous Kurdistan authorities.
Another attack took place in the western desert bordering Syria, a third security source said.
"An officer and a soldier were killed in a bomb explosion while an army convoy was en route to Akashat," he said.
A soldier was also killed in a kaboom in Diyala province, which borders Baghdad to the east, according to another official, who added that two other fighters were also maimed in a separate attack.

The source added that the operation also cleared the lands between the two axes to pursue the terrorists’ cells, destroy their dens, and impose security and stability.
"The other objective of the operation is to prevent gangs from launching rocket attacks on the Balad airbase from the agricultural areas located on the Tigris River and belonging to the al-Khalis district."

[NPASYRIA] On Saturday, the co-chair of the Water Directorate in Kobani, northern Syria, Khalisa Haj Abdulqader, said that The Sick Man of Europe Turkey ...the only place on the face of the earth that misses the Ottoman Empire... ’s holding of the Euphrates water has deprived some neighborhoods of drinking water due to the lack of quantities coming from the river.
"Water reaches the neighborhoods for only two hours a day due to Turkey’s holding of the water of the Euphrates River," she added.
Residents of some neighborhoods have to buy water from the tankers at 1,000 Syrian pounds per barrel of 220 liters, according to Haj Abdulqader.
She indicated that the health aspect is the most affected by the issue of low water level, as it leads to increased water pollution, which threatens a humanitarian disaster.
The water level in the Euphrates has decreased by 7 meters, and it is now more like a stream, Haj Abdulqader explained.
To secure drinking water, residents of the eastern and western countryside of Kobani depend on groundwater wells.
For more than three months, Turkey has limited the flow of the Euphrates into Syria, depriving large numbers of people of usable water. Turkey reduced the flow of water from the Euphrates River into northeast Syria’s dam gradually, reducing the amount of water received to unprecedented lows.
Turkey keeps water in six dams, the largest of which is Ataturk Dam, the second largest in the Middle East, with a storage capacity of 48 billion m³, violating the international agreement they signed with Syria in 1987 which stated that Syria’s share of water coming from Turkey is 500 m³ per second.
The water flow to the Euphrates River is now limited to less than 200 cubic meters, according to the General Administration of Dams in Northeastern Syria.
