[EpochTimes] Customs and Border Protection seized nearly half a million pounds of illegal narcotics at the border in 2020 using new screening technology, agency officials announced Thursday.
Over half of the narcotics found last year, or around 470,000 pounds, were discovered through so-called non-intrusive inspection technology, according to Customs and Border Protection (CBP). The agency seized a total of 808,522 pounds of illegal narcotics in 2020.
Officials seized more marijuana, methamphetamine and fentanyl in 2020 than in 2019, according to CBP. Over 754,70 pounds of marijuana, methamphetamine and fentanyl were seized in 2020 compared to 704,800 in 2019.
The non-intrusive inspection technology allows officials to detect narcotics, weapons and other materials that could present a nuclear or radiological threat to the U.S. without having to physically go through a vehicle or container, according to CBP. The technology ranges from large-scale X-ray and gamma-ray systems to portable and handheld options.
CBP officers used non-intrusive technology to inspect vehicles going in and out of the hardened security perimeter during inauguration events in Washington, D.C. Officials were searching cars and people for weapons and bombs.
"While our normal day-to-day operations at the border consist of looking for terrorism, narcotics, and of course weapons, in this case here we’re looking for incendiary devices, weapons, bombs to help protect the U.S. and this event," CBP Office of Field Operations Branch Chief Garret Reinhart said, video shows.
Non-intrusive technology saves around $1 billion in government spending annually, according to CBP. The technology was used during 6.4 million inspections conducted by CBP in 2020.
[EpochTimes] Border patrol agents arrested a total of 253 illegal aliens within an hour at the Texas border in the Rio Grande Valley Sector, the U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) announced on Friday.
The arrests of two large groups of illegal aliens were made south of Mission, Texas, late on Thursday, the CBP announced in a news release. The groups, which had 166 and 87 people, consisted mainly of families and unaccompanied children. The group of 87 people had turned themselves in.
Other instances of illegal alien arrests were also noted by the CBP in its news release. The agency announced that border agents in the Rio Grande Valley (RGV) sector received a tip about a possible stash house. The agents and local law enforcement on Wednesday arrested the 38 illegal aliens in the stash house, some of whom were trying to flee when the agents arrived at the scene.
RGV agents also arrested another eight people on Thursday afternoon. The eight were taken to the Rio Grande City Border Patrol Station to be processed, according to the CBP. Of the eight people, five were arrested after they were observed in a car leaving a suspected illegal alien stash house in Roma. RGV agents and coppers made the three other arrests when the occupants of the car said that there were more illegal aliens at the stash house.
The RGV agents also arrested 10 illegal aliens on Friday morning after they stopped a vehicle on U.S. Highway 281, near Linn, Texas. The vehicle "abruptly drove off the highway into a ranch fence" and the driver and all of the occupants of the vehicle tried to leave the scene before 10 of the group were arrested. The driver was not found, the CBP announced.
"Even with the spread of the COVID-19 virus, human smugglers continue to try these brazen attempts with zero regard for the lives they endanger nor to the health of the citizens of our great nation, The U.S. Border Patrol agents of the Rio Grande Valley Sector will continue to safeguard the nation and community against these criminal elements," the CBP announced.
And a lollipop, and new clothes, and a bus ticket, and a pamphlet from the U.S. Government Publishing Office (in Spanish) about how to steal an actual American's identity...

[AlAhram] Sabet is accused of participating in financing terrorism and supporting terrorist entities, according to sources familiar with the investigations
Egypt’s Supreme State Security Prosecution has ordered a 15-day detention of Seif Safwan Sabet for similar charges of his already-detained father, who is the Chairman of the country’s biggest dairy and juice producer Juhayna Food Industries, a statement said on Saturday.
According to sources familiar with the investigations, the statement said, Sabet is accused of participating in financing terrorism and supporting terrorist entities, and that he was transferred to Tora prison to serve in pre-trial detention pending investigations.
Saturday’s statement said that Seif was arrested on Saturday from inside his house in a compound in 6th of October City and, was referred to the investigation authorities on the same day, which took over the investigation with him on "accusations of financing the terrorist Moslem Brüderbund Organisation within the framework of a scheme aimed at harming the country's national economy."
Egypt designated the Brotherhood a terrorist organization in 2013, months after the ouster of Islamist Ex-President Mohammed Morsy following mass protests.
In December, the Egyptian prosecution ordered the 15-day detention of Safwat Sabet -- the father -- for joining a terrorist group. While last Thursday, the investigative judge decided to renew Sabet’s detention for 45 days pending investigations on the background of the same accusation.
Earlier in 2015, a judicial committee formed by the justice ministry had seized Sabet’s funds on allegations that he had ties to the banned Moslem Brüderbund group. It is not yet clear if the father’s new charges are related.

[Defense Post] Nigerian troops backed by jets have taken control of several camps of IS-linked jihadists, with two senior commanders escaping after several other ranking militants were killed, two military sources told AFP Thursday.
Troops overran Islamic State’s West Africa Province (ISWAP) camps in an area straddling Yobe and Borno states in northeast Nigeria after a month-long military operation, the sources said.
The operations have been ongoing as President Muhammadu Buhari replaced his four top military commanders after months of pressure over his government’s failure to end the country’s more than decade-long Islamist insurgency.
On Wednesday, soldiers aided by fighter jets overran Dole camp, the last jihadist stronghold in the so-called "Timbuktu triangle," the two military officers said. "With the fall of Dole the whole area is now under the effective control of Nigerian troops," said one of the officers.
The jihadists have been in control of the area since 2013 when they seized it and established a strong presence, especially in the Talala area, which became the second-largest ISWAP camp outside the group’s Lake Chad stronghold.

[Dawn] A meeting presided over by Balochistan ...the Pak province bordering Kandahar and Uruzgun provinces in Afghanistan and Sistan Baluchistan in Iran. Its native Baloch propulation is being displaced by Pashtuns and Punjabis and they aren't happy about it... Chief Secretary Fazeel Asghar has decided to launch intelligence-based combing operations in the province to arrest elements involved in two kabooms which targeted rallies organised to mark Kashmir ...a disputed territory lying between India and Pakistain. After partition, the Paks grabbed half of it and call it Azad (Free) Kashmir. The remainder they refer to as "Indian Occupied Kashmir". They have fought four wars with India over it, the score currently 4-0 in New Delhi's favor. After 72 years of this nonsense, India cut the Gordian knot in 2019, removing the area's special status, breaking off Ladakh as a separate state, and allowing people from other areas to settle (or in the case of the Pandits, to resettle) there.... Solidarity Day in Quetta and Sibi recently.
The meeting also reviewed the overall law and order situation in the province and decided to take strict security measures against anti-peace elements.
Additional Chief Secretary Home Hafiz Abdul Basit, Inspector General of Balochistan Police Tahir Hussain Rai, Commissioner of Quetta division Asfandyar Kakar, the Quetta’s CCPO, Quetta Deputy Commissioner retired Major Aurangzeb Badini and other security officials attended the meeting.
The officials concerned briefed the meeting about the kabooms and the progress in the investigation into them.
The two kabooms in the rallies in Quetta and Sibi claimed two lives and left over 20 people, including three police officials, injured.
It was decided that special steps would be taken for arrest of elements involved in the blasts. It was also decided that actions would be taken against those officials who showed negligence in their duties.
The chief secretary directed law enforcement and intelligence agencies to make close coordination and increase cooperation so that violent mostly peaceful activities could be stopped in the province.
Stressing the need for intelligence-based operations, he said special measures should be taken to find hideouts of anti-peace elements.
The chief minister expressed dismay over the unfortunate incidents of kabooms.
[OneIndia] Uttarakhand Chief Minister Trivendra Singh Rawat on Saturday said US-based outfits such as Justice for Sikhs and around 300 Pakistain-based Twitter handles are stoking anger among farmers as he challenged those protesting the three new agricultural laws to prove how they are harmful to farmers.
Those behind the farmers'' agitation want to break the nation, he said, claiming the new farm laws have brought real freedom to farmers to sell their produce anywhere they want, apart from in the traditional mandis.
"I am sure those agitating against the new farm laws will be at a loss if challenged to prove how they are harmful to farmers," Rawat said after distributing Rs 300 crore
...one crore equals ten million, and there are almost 73 Indian rupees to one US dollar, according to the internet. The exact amount he gave away I leave as an exercise for the student...
worth interest-free loans to farmers under the Deendayal Upadhyay Co-operative Farmers'' Welfare Scheme.
"Anger among farmers is being stoked by US-based outfits like Justice for Sikhs and around 302 Twitter handlers in Pakistain because they don''t want farmers in India to grow under the prime ministership of Narendra Modi," Rawat said.
Ah hah! We’ll use the Govt. of Pakistan Proxies tag.
Criticising the New York Times
...which still proudly displays Walter Duranty's Pulitzer prize... for allegedly describing Narendra Modi as a "dangerous patriot", the Chief Minister asked how being patriotic can be dangerous.
"If we (the BJP government) had the powers of Hanuman,
...Hindu monkey demigod...
we would have split our hearts open to show what lies there for farmers," the Chief Minister said.
Appreciating the farmers of Uttarakhand who have stayed away from the day''s ''chakka jam'' in other states against the new farm laws called by the protesting unions, Rawat said he wants to thank them for refusing to submit to the forces that want to "instigate" them to serve their own interests.
Reassuring farmers that the Modi government cannot ever think of harming them as empowering them monetarily to increase their buying capacity is integral to the BJP's ideology, Rawat said the prime minister should be credited for implementing the recommendations of the Swaminathan Commission for farmers.
Naming Central schemes such as the PMGSY introduced during the Atal Bihari Vajpayee government, Narendra Modi's PM-Kisan Samman Nidhi Yojana and the Jan Dhan Yojana under which the poor could open zero balance accounts, Rawat said they were all meant to empower the rural populace and small and marginal farmers.
As many as 25,000 farmers of the state were distributed interest-free loans worth around Rs 300 crore through the loan distribution programme joined by about 5,0000 farmers from the state physically as well as virtually.
Interest-free loans of Rs 3 lakh
...one lakh equals 100,000...
to each beneficiary and Rs 5 lakh to each farmer group are being provided for investment in agriculture and agriculture-related fields including fisheries, forestry, cultivation of medicinal plants, dairy and poultry activities.
Thousands of farmers have been protesting at Delhi's borders with Haryana and Uttar Pradesh demanding the rollback of the Farmers'' Produce Trade and Commerce (Promotion and Facilitation) Act, 2020, the Farmers (Empowerment and Protection) Agreement on Price Assurance and Farm Services Act, 2020 and the Essential Commodities (Amendment) Act, 2020.
The protesting farmers have expressed apprehension that these laws would pave the way for the dismantling of the minimum support price system, leaving them at the "mercy" of big corporations.
However, Switzerland makes more than cheese... the government has maintained that the new laws will bring farmers better opportunities and usher in new technologies in agriculture.
Photos can be seen of the non-untoward incident at the link.
[OneIndia] The farmers have closed the highway in Haryana's Palwal as part of the Chakka Jam.
Meanwhile the ADG of UP said that no untoward incident has taken place so far. We have got support from farmer organizations, with their cooperation and our effort no untoward incident has happened so far.

The Khalistanis themselves are proxies of islamabad, TW. It was the Pakis that injected this idea of a separate country for the 'purest sikhs', even while being rapists and enslavers of Sikh women, and bullying their own Sikh population. It all began after the Indo-Pak war of '71, when Paki Prez Zulfikar Bhutto suggested it to the British Sikh community and the ISI began to help them arm up and recruit in India.
When they killed the Indian PM Indira Gandhi, a typical Indian knee jerk overreaction against all Sikhs alienated more of the community and they fled to the west. The addition of muslim muscle and Paki resource to their 'struggle' is not new, but they never used the farmer to do this sort of thing. They were militants, pure and simple. Lobbyists and politicians in England, America, Canada, sure but they had no traction here, even among most Punjabis and Sikhs.
The primary political outfit posing as a farmer union here is called the BKU, a mercenary gang of habitual activists who have extorted sops and loan waivers from previous administrations, caused massive inflation and held food markets to ransom in the past. They called for the release of people like Sharjeel Imaam - a trained secessionist posing as a student activist in Delhi, Umar Khalid - another ummah activist, plus a couple of naxal maoists caught for planning the murders of innocent police draftees.
When one looks at local muslims joining this stir [students of islamic universities, local politicians and independent activists], one must remember they have nothing to do with farming. Because 85% of Indian landowners being hindus, only 9% arable land is in muslim hands; and there are basically no muslim farmers.
As for proxies of whom exactly; the phenomenon is rooted in the recruiting strategy the 'lone wolf' syndrome comes from, but better organized here. The individual sunni, without loyalty to any country or region, is a sworn member of the ummah.
These are all south Asian ummah. They are raised and educated for one thing only, destabilizing India. No one has to pay them or appeal to their sense of duty toward Allan. Whenever any summbitch makes trouble for the establishment, you will find them there, ready to give a helping hand. They're everywhere, from London to New Jersey and Cologne to Guangdong ... no maybe not Guangdong.

The arrest of Hidayatullah Malik alias Hasnain, an 'A' category terrorist from Shopian district, when he was in a private car was made by a joint team of Anantnag and Jammu police from Kunjwani area in the outskirts of Jammu city, a police spokesperson said.
He said Malik was one of the 10 accused in a case related to detection of a powerful boom-mobile which was later destroyed on the spot to avert any major mishap in Pulwama district in May last year.
His seven other associates were earlier arrested from different parts of south Kashmir over the past month. "In order to dismantle the structure of Lashkar-e-Mustafa, the efforts of Anantnag Police led to the arrest of its self styled chief.
The first arrest in this chain was Ayaz Bhat of Anantnag from whom one pistol was recovered on January 18," the spokesperson said.
On the disclosure of Bhat, two more terror associates -- Rayees Mir of Pampore and Shakir Itoo of Shopian -- were arrested and two grenades were recovered from their possession, the spokesperson said, adding four more terror associates hailing from Anantnag were arrested and two pistols, AK-47 rounds and hand grenades were recovered.
During the further course of investigation, he said the arrested terrorist associates revealed that Malik was putting up in Bathindi area of Jammu and planning a major attack in Jammu.
"Accordingly, a special team of Anantnag Police was constituted and deputed to Jammu to launch the operation. At about 3:30 pm, an operation was launched with the assistance of Jammu police at Kunjwani Jammu," the spokesperson said.
During the joint operation, he said the terrorist attacked the joint party and tried to escape from the spot but the team apprehended him tactfully from the crowded place.
Incriminating materials, arms and ammunition including two pistols and grenades have been recovered from his possession, the spokesperson said.
Earlier, Senior Superintendent of Police, Jammu, Shridhar Patil said a private vehicle was intercepted by police at Kunjwani bypass on a specific information leading to the arrest of the wanted terrorist.
He said the terrorist attacked the police officer leading the party in an attempt to escape but was overpowered.
"He is being questioned," the officer said, adding more details would be shared as the investigation progresses.

[AlMasdar] On Friday, the Eastern Jordanian Military Region, in coordination with the Drug Enforcement Administration, thwarted two attempts to infiltrate its border by a group of people smuggling quantities of drugs from Syria to Jordan, the Petra News Agency reported.
A military source in the General Command of the Jordanian Armed Forces stated that the rules of engagement were applied, which led to the retreat of the people into the Syrian depth.
The source further stated that after inspecting the area, the large quantity of drugs, primarily hashish and captagon pills, were seized, and transferred to the competent authorities.
The source added that the Jordanian Armed Forces will deal firmly and resolutely with any infiltration or smuggling attempt, in order to protect the citizen and the border security of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan.

[AlMasdar] The Russian Aerospace Forces continued their air campaign over northwestern Syria this week, hitting a "secret base" belonging to the jihadist rebels inside the Idlib Governorate. "All your base are belong to us"
The Russian YouTube channel, RusVesna.SU, reported this week that the Russian Aerospace Forces targeted the secret base of Hay’at Tahrir al-Sham, formerly al-Nusra, before that it was called something else ...al-Qaeda's Syrian affiliate, from which sprang the Islamic State... (HTS) in the Idlib Governorate, resulting in their subsequent destruction after the attack.
"Aerial reconnaissance planes tracked the movement and sites of the secret base of the HTS terrorists, which was 18 km north of Idlib," the Russian news site said.
"During the surveillance of the jihadist vehicle (a pickup truck with a large-caliber machine gun), an underground tunnel was discovered where the Hayat Tahrir al-Sham turbans were hiding their equipment from the Su-24 front-line bombers, which destroyed the underground shelter of the gunnies along with the equipment," they continued.
"Also, during the observation in a wooded area, the group’s field headquarters was found, located in one of the buildings; it was destroyed by precision bombing," they pointed out.
They would add that "the counter-terrorism operation was a logical response to The Sick Man of Europe Turkey ...the only place on the face of the earth that misses the Ottoman Empire... ’s inability to take control of its own krazed killer groups, which are systematically attacking Damascus-controlled areas in the Idlib de-escalation zone."
