[RADIOSHABELLE] The United States admitted on Monday that it had killed two civilians and injured three in an Arclight airstrike ...KABOOM!... in Somalia early last year, in a rare acknowledgment of civilian casualties from US Africa Command military operations in the Horn of Africa country.
The deaths were mentioned in a debut quarterly assessment report by AFRICOM on allegations of civilian casualties raised in connection with its operations against faceless myrmidons in Somalia, Libya, and other African countries.
"Regrettably two non-combatants were killed and three others injured in a February 2019 airstrike. "We are deeply sorry this occurred," AFRICOM’s commander, US Army General Stephen Townsend, said in the report.
The airstrike was carried out in the vicinity of Kunyo Barrow in Somalia’s Lower Shabelle region and the report said the intended target — two members of Somali gang al-Shabaab ...... the personification of Somali state failure... — were killed.
The civilian deaths, it said, occurred as a result of US or al-Shabaab munitions that went kaboom! during the airstrike. Camp followers or simple, but well-armed goat herders?
It was the second known incident in which AFRICOM has acknowledged killing civilians in Somalia, where rights activists have accused it of long shrouding its operations in secrecy.

[NPR.ORG] El Salvador's president authorized the country's police and military to use lethal force against gang members, who over the weekend were allegedly responsible for the murders of dozens of people. Along with the emergency orders, President Nayib Bukele put all incarcerated gang members on a 24-hour shutdown.
Bukele says the gangs are taking advantage of the police focus on enforcing the coronavirus lockdown instead of battling criminal elements. Lethal force can be used in self-defense or to protect the lives of Salvadorans, he says.
Fifty-three people were killed over the weekend, with 29 murdered on Sunday alone, a new one-day record for homicides since Bukele swept into office last June pledging to reduce the killings. Murders had dropped dramatically in March, as El Salvador enacted some of the most restrictive lockdown measures in the region to combat COVID-19.
Bukele says gang leaders ordered the murders from inside prisons. He spent much of Monday, tweeting pictures of workers boarding up prison cells and says the gang members will no longer see sunlight and will be housed with rivals. He warned the gangsters will regret for the rest of their lives having made the decision to order the murders.

[ALMASDARNEWS] The Syrian Arab Army (SAA) launched a new attack on the jihadist defenses in southern Idlib, Tuesday, targeting their positions along the Jabal al-Zawiya front-lines.
According to a field source in the nearby Hama Governorate, the Syrian Arab Army began to target the jihadist defenses in southern Idlib after the latter was seen moving their forces towards the front-line area in Jabal al-Zawiya.
The source said the Syrian Army targeted the jihadist positions with heavy artillery and missiles, hitting their front-lines at al-Fateera and al-Bara’ in southern Idlib.
He would add that the Syrian Arab Army is still striking hte jihadist positions at this time, as they are currently in violation of the March 5th Moscow Agreement.
The Syrian Arab Army has increased their attacks against the jihadist forces in southern Idlib recently, as they attempt to force these holy warriors to withdraw six kilometres north of the M-4 Highway (Aleppo-Latakia Highway).
At the same time, the Russian and Ottoman Turkish armed forces continued their patrols along the M-4 Highway on Tuesday, despite protests by Hay’at Tahrir al-Sham, formerly al-Nusra, before that it was called something else ...al-Qaeda's Syrian affiliate, from which sprang the Islamic State... (HTS) in the eastern part of Idlib.
Earlier this week, the Ottoman Turkish Army broke up an HTS-sponsored protest near the town of al-Nayrab; this prompted the latter to attack some observation posts in the Idlib Governorate.
As a result, the Ottoman Turkish Army destroyed the hard boy barriers and dispersed the protesters to clear the highway.

[ALMASDARNEWS] The Israeli Air Force carried out an attack on the southern suburbs of Damascus this past weekend, resulting in a confrontation with the Syrian military in the capital city.
According to a military source in Damascus, the Israeli Air Force fired at least eight missiles towards Damascus from Lebanese airspace, with at least three of the projectiles hitting the southern suburb of Sayyeda Zaynab.
As a result of this attack, the Syrian government reported three civilian deaths and the hospitalization of four others.
During the attack, however, it appears that the Israeli Air Force was able to evade the Syrian military’s preliminary radars, as their missiles were designed to suppress enemy defenses.
In an article released on Monday, the Russian publication Avia.Pro reported that the Israeli Air Force used their Delilah missiles, which are designed to suppress enemy radar and defense systems.
"Israel’s unexpected attack on the Syrian capital this morning ended mainly in favor of the Syrian air defense systems, which were able to successfully hit targets in the northwestern part of Damascus," Avia.Pro said. "Nevertheless, as it turned out, this is not about ordinary missiles, but about Delilah cruise missiles designed to suppress enemy radar and air defense, which did not work against the means protecting the Syrian capital."
