[IsraelTimes] A man said to be an operative for the Hamas terror group is at the head of an organization leading anti-Israel, pro-Palestinian protests in the United Kingdom, The Times reports.
In which the Times catches up to Rantburg — well done, guys.
Zaher Birawi serves as the chair of the Palestine Forum in Britain (PFB), one of six groups that make up the Palestine Coalition which has organized at least 20 rallies this year, including one this week to support detained hunger strikers from Palestine Action, proscribed as a terror group.
Israel said in September that Birawi is one of a number of “high-ranking, well-known Hamas operatives” involved in the Gaza flotilla movement. He is described on the pro-Palestinian outlet Middle East Monitor as a journalist, the chairman of the International Committee to Break the Siege on Gaza, and a founding member of the International Freedom Flotilla Coalition.
In October 2023, Labour MP Christian Wakeford used parliamentary privilege to name Birawi as one of four “senior Hamas operatives” active in Britain, The Times reports.
“This house rightly voted to proscribe Hamas in its entirety in November 2021,” he said. “It is therefore a serious national security risk for Hamas operatives to be living here in London.”
One of the other three individuals named by Wakeford was Ziad El Aloul, who is also connected with PFB, The Times says.
[Breitbart] One of the top leaders of Cartel Jalisco New Generation (CJNG) is back in jail after spending more than seven months in house arrest. He continued his leadership of the cartel, designated by the U.S. government as a Foreign Terrorist Organization.
This week, Mexican authorities arrested Armando “Delta 1” Gomez Nunez, one of the top leaders with CJNG, who they claim is under investigation for murders, kidnappings, extortions, and the moving of drugs to the United States.
What authorities did not reveal is that the man known as Delta 1, had been living in Jalisco State under house arrest since May. According to El Universal, Gomez Nunez had been previously ordered to be held without bond on various weapons charges and drug trafficking charges. However, in May, an unnamed federal judge granted him release on house arrest, claiming he was suffering from unspecified health problems.
From his home in Jalisco, Delta 1 continued to run his criminal organization and coordinate its expansion in the western state of Michoacán. As Breitbart Texas has reported, the CJNG has been waging a fierce turf war with smaller criminal organizations in that state that were once known as Carteles Unidos. Both organizations are currently designated as Foreign Terrorist Organizations by the U.S. government. As part of their fierce turf war, both sides have held fierce gun battles, but have also been behind the widespread use of land mines, explosive devices, and the indiscriminate use of drones to drop IEDs on rivals and police forces.
Under the leadership of Delta 1, CJNG entered into an alliance of convenience with a smaller criminal organization known as Los Viagras as they attempt to take on the Cartel de Tepalcatepec and various other smaller groups that masquerade as self-defense movements.

“I’d give anything to go back a week, a month, two years, to ensure that didn’t happen, but we need to make sure that we take steps so that it never happens again.”
The new rules will cap the number of guns an individual can own to four, or ten for exempted individuals like farmers.
There are more than 1.1 million firearms in the state, officials say.
The legislation will also ban the display of “terrorist symbols,” including the flag of the Islamic State terror group, which was draped on the attackers’ car.
Authorities will also be able to prohibit protests for up to three months following a terrorism incident.
Australian cops reveal terrorists conducted ‘firearms training’ outside Sydney before Hanukkah attack
[IsraelTimes] A man accused of killing 15 people in a terror attack on a Hanukkah event at Sydney’s Bondi Beach conducted “firearms training” in an area of New South Wales outside of Sydney with his father and recorded a video about their “justification” for the antisemitic attack in which they condemn “Zionists,” police allege in court documents.
The police statement of facts is made public following Naveed Akram’s video court appearance from a Sydney hospital.
The statement alleges the 24-year-old and his father, 50-year-old Sajid Akram, threw four improvised explosive devices toward the crowd at the Hanukkah event at Bondi Beach on December 14, but they didn’t explode. It also says they made a “reconnaissance” trip to Bondi beach just days before the mass shooting.
According to police, a video file found on one of the accused’s phone shows the two sitting in front of an Islamic State flag, reciting a passage from the Quran and making statements “regarding their motivation for the ‘Bondi attack.'”
The New South Wales court media unit cannot immediately provide a copy of the statement.

Mohammed Shahin, an Egyptia holy man who heads a Moslem community in Turin, Italia, was ordered freed from custody this week by a local court following his arrest last month for defending Hamas ..the braying voice of Islamic Resistance®,... ’s October 7, 2023, massacre in Israel.
The decision to release Shahin was met with anger from Italian Prime Giorgia Meloni, who blasted the court’s decision in a statement on Monday.
"We are talking about a person who described the October 7 attack as an act of ’resistance,’ denying its violence. Where I come from, that means justifying — if not inciting — terrorism," wrote Meloni.
"Can someone explain to me how we are supposed to defend the safety of Italians if every initiative aimed in that direction is systematically overturned by certain judges?"
According to the ANSA Italian news agency, Shahin was arrested in November and Interior Minister Matteo Piantedosi issued an order to have him deported from Italia due to his comments.
However,
man does not live by words alone, despite the fact that sometimes he has to eat them... a court in Turin on Monday ruled in favor of an appeal by Shahin’s lawyers, the agency reported, saying that there were no "public safety" grounds to justify his arrest.
His attorneys have also argued that Shahin would face danger if he were deported back to Egypt, since he has been an outspoken critic of Egyptian President Abdel-Fattah el-Sissi.
He can go elsewhere. Almost the entire world is neither Egypt nor Italy, and in plenty of it his sentiments would be welcome — Pakistan, for instance, or Australia, though post-Bondi Beach Australia is either posturing for effect or has had a salutary shock and took the right lessons from it.
The news agency reported that Shahin was arrested after he described Hamas’s October 7 attack — in which holy warriors invaded southern Israel, killing some 1,200 people, kidnapping 251 and committing numerous atrocities — to be "not a violation and neither was it violence."
According to Italian media reports, the court reinstated Shahin’s residency permit after it was revoked by Piantedosi’s order. The government is likely to appeal the decision.
The Agenzia Nova news agency reported that Shahin, who has led a mosque in the northern Italian city for more than a decade, was arrested on November 24. The court found that accusations that he had contact with individuals who were convicted of or investigated for terrorism were "isolated and decidedly dated," the outlet said.
The L’Unione Sarda newspaper reported that the Turin Court of Appeals ruled that Shahin did not present a "concrete and present danger," and that during his two decades in Italia, he has had a "completely clean criminal record."
Last month, a group of protesters in Turin vandalized the main office of the newspaper La Stampa, breaking into the building and covering it with graffiti such as "Free Paleostine" and "Newspapers complicit with Israel," in addition to hanging a banner saying "Free Shahin," a reference to the imam.
The newspaper said that the protesters were "shouting terrorist journalists, you’re number one on the list!'" and that "they stormed the newsroom and tore up valuable books and documents that we use daily for our work."

The US Congress imposed the so-called Caesar Act sanctions on Syria’s government and financial system in 2019 to punish Assad for abuses during the country’s nearly 14-year civil war that began in 2011.
After Assad was ousted a year ago, advocates for repeal argued that the sanctions were preventing international investors from launching reconstruction projects and blocking Syria from rebuilding its battered economy and infrastructure.
Trump, who had previously lifted the penalties temporarily by executive order, signed off on the final repeal late Thursday after Congress passed it as part of the country’s annual defense spending bill.
Syria’s foreign ministry, in a statement on Thursday, thanked the US for the repeal of sanctions and said it will "contribute to alleviating the burdens on the Syrian people and open the way for a new phase of recovery and stability."
Kan reported on Saturday that the Trump administration promised Israel unspecified "compensation" for lifting the sanctions. Trump has expressed hope for a diplomatic accord between Israel and Syria, after the IDF seized parts of southern Syria, mostly within a UN-patrolled buffer zone, after the collapse of the Assad regime.

While there was optimism in September that a deal could be signed, Rooters reported at the time of the assembly that contacts between Israel and Syria regarding the deal had reached a dead end due to Israel’s demand to open a "humanitarian corridor" into the Sweida province in southern Syria — where sectarian violence has killed hundreds of people from the Druze community, which Israel has vowed to protect.
Sources told Rooters that Israel requested early on in the talks to open a passage for delivering aid to Sweida, but Syria rejected the request, claiming it would harm its illusory sovereignty. According to the sources, Israel repeated the demand later in the negotiations, leading progress on the agreement to stall.
Reports last month suggested Israel’s terms have since changed and it is now demanding full diplomatic relations, which Syria has said is not currently on the cards, further complicating the process.
Trump earlier this month warned Israel against destabilizing Syria and its new leadership, days after IDF soldiers battled button men in the country’s south, and said he is "very satisfied" with the country’s performance under new President Ahmad al-Sharaa, whose forces ousted Assad.

The head of Iraq’s highest judicial body said Saturday that the leaders of armed factions have agreed to cooperate on the sensitive issue of the state’s monopoly on weapons.

"The resistance is a right, and its weapons will remain in the hands of its fighters," the group said in a statement.

Formerly a fairly civilized nation ruled by a Shah, it became a victim of Islamic revolution in 1979. Faiq Zidan, the head of Iraq’s Supreme Judicial Council, in a statement, thanked "faction leaders for heeding his advice to coordinate together to enforce the rule of law, restrict weapons to state control, and transition to political action after the national need for military action has ceased."
After Iraq’s general elections in November, the United States demanded that the new government exclude six groups it designates as snuffies and instead move to dismantle them, Iraqi officials and diplomats told AFP.
But some of the groups have increased their presence in the new parliament and are members of the Coordination Framework, a ruling alliance of Shiite parties with varying ties to Iran that holds the majority.
The blacklisted groups are part of the Hashed al-Shaabi, a former paramilitary alliance that has integrated into the armed forces. But they have also developed a reputation for sometimes acting on their own.
They are also part of the Tehran-backed so-called "axis of resistance," and have called for the withdrawal of US troops — deployed in Iraq as part of an anti-jihadist coalition — and launched attacks against them.

The Shiite militias agreed to cease attacks on Israel in December 2024 at the urging of Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia’ al-Sudani, a report said at the time.
Earlier this week, the group’s leader, Qais al-Khazali, a key figure in the Coordination Framework, said "we believe" in "the slogan to restrict weapons to the state," and "we are now part of the state."
Two other groups, Harakat Ansar Allah al-Awfiya and Kataeb Imam Ali, said on Friday that it is time to "limit weapons to the state."
[IsraelTimes] An explosive-throwing suspect killed by the IDF in the West Bank last night was a Palestinian Islamic Jihad operative, the group says.
PIJ identifies Ahmad Zayoud as one of its members after the 22-year-old was killed by the IDF last night in Silat al-Harithiya, north of Jenin, in the northern West Bank.
In a condolence message published on social media, PIJ says Zayoud was a member of the Silat al-Harithiya company within the Jenin Battalion of the Quds Brigades, PIJ’s armed wing.
According to the IDF, troops opened fire on Zayoud last night after he hurled an explosive at them.

The government on Sunday formally announced that 11 new settlements will be established in the West Bank, along with the legalization or recognition of eight illegal outposts and settlement "neighborhoods" as official settlements.
The new settlements spanning the length and breadth of the West Bank had been detailed in a resolution proposed by Defense Minister Israel Katz and Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich, and approved by the security cabinet on December 12.
Smotrich said the announcement was aimed at blocking a Paleostinian state.
The newly recognized settlements are Kida, Esh Kodesh, Givat Harel, Mishol, Kochav Hashachar-North, Nof Gilad, Ganim, Kadim, Shalem, Har Bezek, Reihanit, Rosh Ha’ayin-East, Tammun, P’nei Kedem, Yatziv, Ya’ar El Keren, Allenby, Yitav-West, and Nahal Doron.
About half of the outposts are located deep inside the West Bank, while the others are dispersed more or less evenly along the Green Line that separates the territory from Israel.
Some of the outposts have been in place for decades. For example, Givat Harel was established in 1998, and nearby Esh Kodesh in 2000, according to settlement watchdog Peace Now.

The other two, Homesh and Sa Nur, were formally reestablished in May this year.

Israel’s national intelligence chief warns that Iran, ISIS and other jihadist actors remain determined to target Jews worldwide, as senior intelligence officials sound the alarm on a sharp global rise in terrorism.
Speaking days after the Hanukkah massacre in Australia, Mossad Director David Barnea said Israel’s spy agency would find "those who sent them wherever they flee, and we will hold them to account," adding that "justice will be done and justice will be seen."
Barnea said the attack in Sydney reflects a broader and ongoing threat. "The criminal idea of terrorism targeting innocent civilians has been and remains a cornerstone of the security strategy of the current Iranian regime," he said. He warned that "jihadist elements, ISIS and others, have also resolved to target every Jew in the world."
"Our hearts are with the families of the Australian victims," Barnea said. He added that the goal of such attacks is to break Jewish resilience, but stressed, "Our spirit will not be broken. We will continue to celebrate our holidays and live our lives in Israel and around the world."
The Bondi attack followed months of warnings from Israeli intelligence that Jewish communities and Western nations face an expanding terror threat driven by Iran-linked networks alongside Sunni jihadist groups. Senior Israeli intelligence sources previously told Fox News Digital that the Mossad had alerted Australian authorities about Iranian-linked terror activity long before the attack and stressed the danger was not confined to a single country.
"Today it’s ISIS. Tomorrow it’s Iran," one senior Israeli intelligence official said, describing a threat environment in which multiple extremist actors are operating in parallel and often overlapping arenas.
The official added that Israeli intelligence has identified or disrupted similar activity across Europe, Africa and Asia, including alleged plots involving Germany, Austria, South America, India and Thailand. "If you knew how many terror attacks the Mossad has prevented, you would drop your jaw," the source said.
Barnea also warned that Iran’s use of terrorism is inseparable from its broader strategic ambitions, including its nuclear program. He said Tehran "will sprint toward nuclear weapons the moment it is able to," and that "the idea of developing a nuclear bomb is still alive in their hearts."
Barnea said Israel has a responsibility to ensure that Iran’s nuclear project, which he said has been severely damaged through close cooperation with the United States, is never revived.
As investigations continue in Australia, Israeli intelligence officials say the Bondi Beach attack fits a broader global pattern of terrorism driven by both Iranian-backed networks and jihadist ideology, reinforcing Barnea’s warning that the threat remains active, adaptive and global.
