[IsraelTimes] Wall Street Journal reports that Tehran has sent Hezbollah hundreds of millions of dollars obtained through oil sales over the past year; UAE says working to put a stop to it
The Hezbollah terror group in Lebanon has received hundreds of millions of dollars from Iran over the past year via money laundering operations in Dubai, The Wall Street Journal reported Thursday, after Tehran moved away from the smuggling routes it had previously used due to complications created by the fall of the Assad regime in Syria last December.
The report, which cited officials familiar with the matter, revealed that Iran has been funding Hezbollah’s efforts to rebuild its forces after much of the terror group and its leadership was wiped out in a year-long war with Israel, which ended in a truce last November.
To aid these efforts, the WSJ reported, Iran has been funneling money earned through oil sales to Hezbollah from within the United Arab Emirates, which has diplomatic relations with Israel.
The money from oil sales is moved through Iran-linked exchange shops and private companies, as well as to businessmen and couriers, the WSJ said. It is then transferred to Lebanon through the informal and centuries-old transfer system known as Hawala, in which individuals, rather than banks, act as brokers for money transfers. The system is widely used in Muslim countries, but is not limited to them.
Approached for comment by the WSJ, an unnamed Emirati official said the country was opposed to such activities being carried out in its territory, and that officials were working with international partners to put a stop to it.
Lebanon has also taken a series of steps to try to put a stop to the smuggling, including banning direct flights from Iran and increasing the screening at airports and other borders. Iran has been able to get around this, however, by sending more travelers with smaller amounts of cash or jewelry, thereby bypassing the need to declare anything at customs and lowering the risk of arousing suspicion, the report said.
In November, the US undersecretary for terrorism and financial intelligence, John Hurley, said Iran had managed to funnel about $1 billion to Hezbollah in 2025.
Iran has primarily smuggled this money through Dubai after its regular routes were cut off or severely obstructed when Tehran’s ally, former Syrian president Bashar al-Assad, was ousted last December.
Last month, the US Treasury sanctioned two individuals accused of using money exchanges to help fund Hezbollah.
The WSJ report came on the first anniversary of a ceasefire between Israel and Lebanon that brought an end to more than a year of border clashes and outright war with Hezbollah, which began firing rockets at Israeli military outposts and communities on October 8, 2023, a day after fellow Iran-backed terror group Hamas invaded southern Israel, sparking the war in Gaza.
[IsraelTimes] The UK’s General Medical Council suspends the registration of Dr. Rahmeh Aladwan, based in London, over posts online that included expressions of support for Hamas.
The 31-year-old, described by The Guardian as a “British Palestinian trainee in trauma and orthopaedics” had taken to X to say Israelis were “worse than Nazis,” and that Hamas operatives were “oppressed resistance fighters, not terrorists.”
She also publicly vowed she “would never” condemn the group’s October 7, 2023, attack on Israel, and posted a photo of jewelry reading “O 7,” calling it “celebratory.”
In response to the suspension, Aladwan posts a verse from the Quran: “But they plan, and Allah plans. And Allah is the best of planners.”
Along with the quotation, she writes: “Let this decision stand as the definitive proof that there is no independent British medical regulation. The ‘israeli’ and jewish lobby decide who can and cannot practise (sic) medicine in Britain.”
She says her “gratitude to every single person who has supported our just cause is boundless,” adding: “What an honour it is to sacrifice for our people.”
“Free Palestine and Britain from jewish supremacy,” her post concludes, with emojis of the Palestinian and UK flags.
In addition to her public X posts, tribunal members also heard that Aladwan described London’s Royal Free Hospital as a “Jewish supremacy cesspit” and the Holocaust as a “fabricated victim narrative,” and made a throat-slitting gesture at protesters, according to The Telegraph.
Unsafe for anyone she might think is Jewish or sympathetic, unrelated to actuality.

Trump’s promise to deport migrants was focused on “anyone who is not a net asset [emphasis added] to the United States, or is incapable of loving our Country.” [emphasis added].
That “net asset” message can be interpreted as excluding many white-collar migrants, such as H-1B migrants who reportedly earn high salaries.
But there is much evidence that most visa workers are a net drag on Americans’ prosperity, partly because they are used to diverting vast wealth from white-collar Americans to managers and C-Suite executives.

Trump’s phrase — “incapable of loving our Country” — may refer to devout Muslims, such as the Afghan gunman. But all legal migrants, after they gain citizenship, are protected by the Constitution’s protections for religious freedom and speech.
In October 2024, Trump promised to “begin the largest deportation operation in the history of our country.”
Many polls show majority support for the deportation of all illegal migrants, including those who have not been convicted of non-migration crimes.

Their own statements are never divisive, they're principled... issues in U.S. politics, and Trump’s previous term was marked by repeated festivities over border and refugee policies. His latest position has again thrust the debate into the center of national politics amid rising tensions.
Analysts warn that a policy shift of this scale could destabilize millions of migrants colonists and complicate America’s relationships with partner nations. Rights groups say the rhetoric risks deepening fear within immigrant communities and undermining humanitarian protections.

Before we do anything else, I would like to see us stop sending $40M a week to the Taliban. For the DC folks, that does not mean that I want to see it raised to $45M, lowered to $35M, or continued but with different NGOs. Let’s go to zero on the Taliban. Then we can discuss what to do to sort through all the Afghans that are already here and randomly penalize Guatemalans.

[Independent] The 29-year-old Afghan national has been detained over the shooting of two soldiers in an ‘ambush style attack’ in Washington on the eve of Thanksgiving
Rahmanullah Lakanwal, a 29-year-old Afghan national, was taken into custody after two National Guard soldiers were shot in Washington, D.C., on Wednesday afternoon.
One of the two victims, Sarah Beckstrom, has since died of her injuries while the other, Andrew Wolfe, remains in a critical condition in hospital.
In the immediate aftermath of the shooting, President Donald Trump ...dictatorial for repealing some (but not all) of the diktats of his predecessor, misogynistic because he likes pretty girls, homophobic because he doesn't think gender bending should be mandatory, truly a man for all seasons... lashed out at the suspect, calling him an "animal," describing the incident as a "monstrous, ambush-style attack,".
As Sherlocks look into motive, there are growing questions about how an Afghan national who once worked with the CIA ended up as the suspect in the deadly attack.
The president has blamed his predecessor Joe The Big Guy Biden ...46th president of the U.S. We get to suffer the consequences... for allowing Lakanwal into the country, despite it emerging that his own administration had granted the suspect’s asylum application in April.
WHAT DO WE KNOW ABOUT THE SUSPECTED SHOOTER?
The suspect has been identified as 29-year-old Rahmanullah Lakanwal, originally from a village in the province of Khost in Afghanistan.
A close relative said the suspect had served in the Afghan Army for 10 years alongside U.S. Special Forces as part of the War on Terror, NBC News reported.
The New York Post has since reported that Lakanwal "struggled for years" with the violence he saw in his homeland as a part of a feared CIA-backed series of paramilitary groups known as Zero Units, with whom he served from as young as 16, initially as a security guard and later as a team leader and GPS specialist.
Such units are also known as "death squads" and Human Rights Watch has said it has documented several instances in which they were responsible for "extrajudicial executions and enforced disappearances, indiscriminate Arclight airstrike ...KABOOM!... s, attacks on medical facilities, and other violations of international humanitarian law." The CIA disputes those accusations.
"When he saw blood, bodies, and the maimed, he could not tolerate it," Muhammad, a childhood friend, told The New York Times
...which still proudly claims Walter Duranty's Pulitzer prize... . "It put a lot of pressure on his mind. "He would tell me and our friends that their military operations were very tough, their job was very difficult, and they were under a lot of pressure."
Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem said Lakanwal came to the U.S. in 2021 under Operation Allies Welcome, a Biden-era program aimed at resettling Afghans who had assisted the United States in its fight against the Taliban ...Arabic for students... , which has taken in approximately 76,000 people.
CIA Director John Ratcliffe confirmed Lakanwal’s past association with his agency during an interview with Fox News Wednesday night, saying he had been a "member of a partner force in Kandahar, which ended shortly following the chaotic evacuation."
"The Biden administration justified bringing the alleged shooter to the United States in September 2021 due to his prior work with the U.S. government, including CIA," Ratcliffe added.
Lakanwal subsequently worked as a delivery driver in the U.S. to support his wife and five children and reportedly attempted to manage the post-traumatic stress identified by his friend with marijuana but also played the violent mostly peaceful military-themed video game Call of Duty.
Authorities say the suspect and his family had been living in a sparsely-furnished apartment in Bellingham in Washington state, more than 2,600 miles from D.C., which he left behind earlier this week to travel long distance in a Hyundai sedan to perpetrate Wednesday’s atrocity.
Two senior U.S. law enforcement officials told NBC the FBI are initially investigating the shooting as a possible act of terrorism. Lakanwal has reportedly not cooperated with the investigation so far.
Many details about the suspect are still unknown as he is still in the hospital receiving treatment, said Jeffery Carroll, executive assistant chief of D.C.’s Metropolitan Police Department. Lakanwal’s injuries are believed to be non-life-threatening.
Following the shooting, the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services agency announced an immediate and indefinite halt to the "processing of all immigration requests relating to Afghan nationals" pending a review of security and vetting protocols.
Trump has since said he will "permanently pause" migration from "all third world countries."
HOW DID THE SHOOTING UNFOLD?
Shots were fired in Washington D.C. at around 2.15pm ET on Wednesday near the Farragut West Metro Station, a few blocks from the White House.
The two maimed soldiers were part of a "high-visibility patrol" when they encountered the suspect, who rounded a corner, raised his arm and fired at them with a .357 revolver in an "ambush", Carroll said.
Other National Guard troops quickly subdued the shooter after an exchange of gunfire. "They actually were able to intervene and to kind of hold down the suspect, after he had been shot, on the ground until law enforcement got there within moments," he said.
Building manager Amelia Smith, who works nearby and heard the gunfire, told NBC she heard four shots at first and then "many, many more".
"I started seeing Secret Service members rushing by, running by, cycling by, and more and more sirens. I wasn’t sure if it was gunshots, but then I thought, OK, no one’s going to be putting off fireworks the day before Thanksgiving. And when I heard the sirens, I was like, this is, this is something serious," she added.
D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser has described the incident as a "targeted" shooting.
WHO ARE THE VICTIMS OF THE SHOOTING?
The West Virginia soldiers shot during the incident were Sarah Beckstrom, 20, and Andrew Wolfe, 24, who were raced to hospital in a critical condition and underwent surgery.
Trump announced at a Thanksgiving presser that Beckstrom had died of her injuries and that Wolfe was still fighting for his life.
"Sarah Beckstrom of West Virginia, one of the guardsmen that we’re talking about, highly respected, young, magnificent person, started service in June of 2023 outstanding in every way. She’s just passed away," Trump said. "She’s no longer with us. She’s looking down at us right now. She was savagely attacked, she’s dead now."
Wolfe is "in very bad shape," the president added. "Hopefully we'll get better news with respect to him."
In the immediate aftermath of the shooting, there were conflicting reports about the victims’ conditions. West Virginia Governor Patrick Morrisey initially wrongly announced that both had died, before later clarifying.
On Thursday, Jeanine Pirro, the U.S. Attorney for the District of Columbia, announced Lakanwal will be charged with three counts of assault with intent to kill while armed. Beckstrom’s death now means a first-degree murder charge is likely to be added.
Rahmanullah Lakanwal, 29, is in custody after the horror shootout just 800 yards from the White House on Wednesday afternoon, which left two one West Virginian soldier dead and another battling critical injuries.
He arrived in America in 2021 as part of the disastrous US withdrawal in Afghanistan after serving as an ally of Special Forces troops in his CIA-backed 'Zero Unit.' Lakanwal applied for asylum in 2024 after his temporary visa lapsed, and in April 2025, it was granted by the Trump administration.
The father-of-five was part of the elite paramilitary outfit which engaged in combat with the Taliban during the war in Afghanistan, often referred to as a 'death squad.'
While his role within the unit is not clear, his taskforce was often linked to night raids, covert operations and was suspected of carrying out executions.
A White House official told the Daily Mail that Lakanwal would not have been removed from the country because of his parole status.
'This Afghan national was paroled into the US by the Biden Admin,' the White House official said.
'After that, Joe Biden signed into law that parole program, and entered into the 2023 Ahmed Court Settlement, which bound USCIS to adjudicate his asylum claim on an expedited bases. Regardless of asylum status, this monster would not have been removed due to his parole status, granted by Joe Biden.'
US Attorney Jeanine Pirro's notes during a Thursday briefing mentioned the suspected shooter yelled 'allahu akbar' before the attack.
Can their fighting wing go deeper underground than it is now?
[IsraelTimes] Hamas leaders both inside and outside the Gaza Strip are debating what the terror group’s future should look like, and are potentially open to discussing disarmament, the Saudi Asharq Al-Awsat newspaper reports.
According to the report, which cites unnamed sources within Hamas, one proposal being examined by the group’s leadership suggests dissolving its armed wing and reinventing itself as solely a political organization “capable of taking part in political, economic, social and general public life.”
The proposal also calls for Hamas to become a member of the Palestinian Liberation Organization, chaired by Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas, the source says.
The source adds that joining the PLO would allow Hamas to become “an important political actor” alongside other Palestinian political parties, thus reviving the political process in the Palestinian territories.
Becoming a legitimate political party in the eyes of the Palestinian public would also ensure Hamas’s “survival away from its weapons,” the source tells Asharq Al-Awsat, acknowledging that the terror group has lost much of its internal support after two years of war and the deaths of tens of thousands of Palestinians.
The source acknowledges that Hamas leaders have already been discussing the possibility of disarming with Egypt, Qatar and Turkey, and says that the matter has been broached indirectly with the United States.
But the source says that should Hamas decide to lay down its weapons, it would only do so “through a Palestinian national agreement” and would not allow Israel or the United Nations to get involved.
The United Nations voted this month to adopt a US-sponsored resolution authorizing the establishment of an International Stabilization Force (ISF) to secure the Gaza Strip.
Under the terms of US President Donald Trump’s 20-point plan for Gaza, the ISF could be tasked with taking part in the demilitarization of Gaza.
However, the Hamas source tells Asharq Al-Awsat that the terror group will not allow the ISF to “impose itself by force to disarm,” and warns of “an undesirable and dangerous state of chaos” if it does so.
The source adds that the proposal to disband Hamas’s armed wing in favor of pursuing politics has been submitted to the terror group’s politburo leaders, the Shura Council and other relevant bodies within Hamas.

In an interview with Gaza City-based photojournalist Ahmed Marwan following her release, the younger al-Hams says she was abducted last month by the Israeli-backed, anti-Hamas Abu Shabab gang and handed over to Israeli forces east of Khan Younis.
She was moved around the Ashkelon, Ramleh, Damon and Megiddo prisons, she says, adding that in Ashkelon she was placed in a solitary confinement cell and in Damon she was held with roughly 50 other women.
The Hamas-affiliated prisoners’ office reported on October 2 that al-Hams, in her twenties, was abducted by a “five-member armed force” from a “medical point south of Khan Younis.”
Some Palestinian media had reported she was released earlier this month, but according to the prisoners’ office, citing her brother, a November 16 Israeli order that she be released was not implemented, and she was instead held until today.
The elder al-Hams, head of the Hamas-run health ministry’s field hospital division, is still in Israeli custody, after Israel refused to include him among the Gazans who were set free as part of the truce-hostage deal, according to a Hamas source cited. The doctor’s specific location is unclear.
