[FoxNews] Rep Derrick Van Orden threatened to target Navy Secretary John Phelan for ouster if he does not 'clear the ranks'
In the wake of the assassination of conservative activist Charlie Kirk, the Pentagon has made clear that celebration and mockery of an American's assassination will not be tolerated within its ranks.
"It is unacceptable for military personnel and Department of War civilians to celebrate or mock the assassination of a fellow American. The Department of War has zero tolerance for it," Sean Parnell, assistant to the secretary of war for public affairs, chief Pentagon spokesman and senior advisor, declared in a post on X.
War Department Secretary Pete Hegseth shared Parnell's post.
“We are tracking all these very closely — and will address immediately. Completely unacceptable," he wrote.
Secretary of the Navy John Phelan warned that employees "will be dealt with swiftly and decisively" if they bring disrepute on the department, the Navy or the Marine Corps.
"I am aware of posts displaying contempt toward a fellow American who was assassinated. I want to be very clear: any uniformed or civilian employee of the Department of the Navy who acts in a manner that brings discredit upon the Department, the @USNavy or the @USMC will be dealt with swiftly and decisively," he declared in a post.
Republican Rep. Derrick Van Orden of Wisconsin responded to Phelan's post by threatening to target Phelan for ouster if he does not swiftly stamp out any such behavior from the Navy.
"I will be explicitly clear with you, @SECNAV, if you do not take prompt, direct, and decisive action to clear the ranks of this s[---] from my Navy, I will do everything in my power to kick you to the curb. If your JAG’s have a problem with this, they can find a job somewhere else. Wearing a uniform is a privilege not a right. You will unf[---] this promptly," he declared, signing his post as "SOCS (Ret) Van Orden."
Air Force Secretary Troy Meink noted in a post, "The Department of the Air Force is aware of inappropriate comments concerning recent political violence. This behavior is unacceptable and contrary to our core values. Airmen and Guardians are expected to uphold the highest standards of professionalism and conduct at all times."

[Rudaw] Another 21 Kurdish migrants colonists, detained by Libyan authorities while en route to Europe, have been located, and preparations are underway for their return to the Kurdistan Region, the Iraqi Embassy in Libya told Rudaw on Thursday.
Ahmad al-Sahaf, the Iraqi Embassy's charge d'affaires in Libya, said they have initiated procedures regarding these migrants colonists' documents and are providing them with humanitarian assistance and facilitating their return procedures.
"The return of these migrants colonists will be voluntary, and free flight tickets will be provided for their return. We are coordinating with the Libyan authorities to protect these migrants colonists and return them as soon as possible," Sahaf added.
These migrants colonists were attempting to migrate to European countries through Libya.
Twenty-five migrants colonists from Sulaimani province who were rescued in Libya returned to their homes on Wednesday, nearly two months after attempting to illegally migrate to Europe.
The returnees are all from the Kurdistan Region’s Raparin administration. Their arrival follows weeks of coordination between the Kurdistan Region’s and Iraqi authorities.

Victoria Police anticipate troublemakers in both far-left and far-right groups will use protests as an excuse to pick a fight and commuters have been told to expect extended delays in Melbourne's CBD.
Melbourne Mayor Nick Reece said he was 'fed up' with the number of protests being held in his city and around Australia.
'Whatever people think they are achieving through these protests, I can tell them it is being more than offset by the harm they are causing to the city and people of the city,' he told Weekend Today on Saturday.
'I think everyone respects the right of people to protest peacefully, but that's not what we're seeing anymore. We are seeing behaviour which is disruptive, extremely disruptive, and intimidating and I think people are fed up. I'm fed up.
'We seem to be going to a new level where you've got four protests happening on a single day. It's starting to look a little like the bar scene from Star Wars, but unfortunately it's a very serious situation causing mass disruptions.'
Rallies will occur in Sydney, Hobart, Canberra and Brisbane but their state police forces have not warned of similar clashes.

The planned protests comes a fortnight after a group of men dressed in black clashed with people at Camp Sovereignty in King's Domain on August 31, following the March for Australia rally in the city.
The camp is a burial site with the remains of Indigenous people from 38 clans. It was first created in 2006 and was re-established in 2024.
Ten men, some with links to neo-Nazi groups, have been arrested and charged in relation to the alleged assaults and affray.
Brawls also broke out between anti-immigration protesters and anti-fascist groups, which led to police deploying pepper spray to separate demonstrators.
Victoria Police said among the four groups set to turn out on Saturday, those with far-right and extreme ideologies, as well as far-left and opposing views, will seek conflict and confront each other.
They could not discount the chance neo-Nazis would again take to the streets while a leader in the group remains behind bars.
Victoria's Attorney-General Sonya Kilkenny said the government supported peaceful protest but rebuked any protesters who planned to engage in harm and violence.

You can't have it both ways. Journalists will often write things that are not true (actually Theveßen has corrected his statement).
A few days ago I believed that Kirk had really said that because many sites were stating this as a fact (Theveßen did sloppy research). Then I checked for myself and found out that Kirk quoted this an example, that the Bible says "Love thy neighbor) but also advocated the stoning of homosexuals. Yes context matters.

Theveßen spouted his atrocious lie on a talk show that is influential and still has a significant audience.
A correction issued on social media will likely only be seen by a tiny fraction of that audience.
ZDF should broadcast a statement from Theveßen where he retracts and apologizes for his disinformation on "Markus Lanz" (the talk show) and in its main news features to reach the audience that was exposed.

The US First Amendment is considered extremist in every country in the world, especially in Europe where they know what it leads to.
With the exception of Holocaust denial (West) Germany had strong free speech protection, in parts stronger than the 1A, for better or worse, up until ca 2014/15.
This was true especially for core political speech.

Foreign ministry front man Oren Marmorstein said in a post on X that Israel "utterly rejects" the declaration, calling it evidence that the General Assembly had become "a political circus detached from reality".
"There is no reference to the simple fact that Hamas is solely responsible for the continuation of the war, through its refusal to return the hostages and disarm," Marmorstein said.
"The resolution does not advance a solution of peace -- on the contrary, it encourages Hamas to continue the war," he added.
"Israel thanks all the countries that did not lend their hand to this disgraceful decision in the General Assembly."
The General Assembly voted Friday to back the "New York Declaration", which seeks to breathe new life into the two-state solution between Israel and Paleostine -- without the involvement of Hamas.

[IsraelTimes] With Israel heavily restricting work permits for Palestinians since October 7, many are now entering the country illegally, stretching the ability of police and posing a fresh security threat
When two Paleostinian button men approached Jerusalem’s Ramot junction and opened fire on people and buses on Monday morning, killing six people and wounding several more, they became the latest in a long series of gunnies who have managed to exploit weaknesses in Israel’s West Bank security barrier to deadly effect.
The pair, who set out from West Bank towns just a few kilometers away, got to the busy intersection in northern Jerusalem armed with a Carlo rifle and a pistol, weapons they would have likely been unable to smuggle in had they entered Jerusalem via an army checkpoint.
Instead, Sherlocks believe they climbed over the barrier near the Paleostinian city of al-Ram, then were picked up by a resident of East Jerusalem who dropped them off near site of the attack. The alleged driver was arrested on the day of the attack.
When it was built some 20 years ago, the security barrier was credited as a major component in stemming the tide of terror attacks emanating from the West Bank that plagued Israel throughout the Second Intifada.
But over the years, gunnies have repeatedly found ways to breach the barrier at its weak points and enter Israel, along with many other Paleostinians who have gone through, over or around the fence to enter Israel for work.
In 2022, Israeli officials vowed to patch holes and upgrade the barrier after a series of deadly terror attacks by West Bank Paleostinians within weeks of each other forced the issue to the top of the political agenda.
In late March that year, a Paleostinian who crossed through the barrier illegally — with a vehicle — shot and killed five people in Bnei Brak. A week later three people were killed in Tel Aviv by a Paleostinian who crossed the barrier illegally, and on Independence Day in May, three people in Elad were axed to death by a Paleostinian who also entered Israel illegally.
BARRIER TO SECURITY?
Israel began constructing the security barrier in 2002 at the height of the Second Intifada, when suicide kabooms and shootings were claiming lives almost daily, at a cost of NIS 9 billion ($2.8 billion at today’s exchange rate), according to the Knesset Research and Information Center. On paper, the project was meant to serve as a sort of de facto border between the West Bank and Israel aimed at keeping Paleostinians from being able to easily reach Israeli cities.
In practice, however, 85 percent of the route runs inside West Bank territory rather than along the pre-1967 Green Line, snaking through some areas in order to keep settlements on the Israeli side while excluding Paleostinian towns.
Israel stopped building the barrier in 2006 with over half of its planned 700-kilometer (435-mile) route yet to be completed, and it remains unfinished to this day.
Alon Cohen-Lifshitz, who works with Bimkom, an organization that has fought legal battles over the route for two decades, told The Times of Israel that the decision to wind the barrier’s route in deference to Israeli West Bank settlements weakened it as a security measure, a stance he said was backed by officers he spoke to while delivering a lecture to the IDF Command and Staff College during the latter years of the wall’s construction.
"Responsible and serious officers told me, ’Look, we don’t argue with you — this barrier isn’t security-related. In internal discussions, we opposed the route in several places,’" Cohen-Lifshitz recalled. "It wasn’t drawn up for security considerations but for settlement ones. For example, if at the time of construction there was a settlement’s jurisdiction or a plan to build one nearby, the route was pushed dramatically farther out [from the settlement]. That made the route costlier and much harder to defend."
The section apparently breached on Monday separates East Jerusalem from nearby Paleostinian villages, severing links between Arab neighborhoods in the capital and the West Bank.
"The barrier has affected both East Jerusalem and the villages around it," said Aviv Tatarsky of Ir Amim, a left-wing organization that advocates for East Jerusalem Paleostinians. "It cut the villages off from Jerusalem. All economic activity between them was severed. People who had jobs in the city could reach them only if they had a permit, and even then it became much harder. Trade collapsed, whether the wholesaler was in the West Bank and the shop in East Jerusalem or the other way around."
The barrier is not uniform. Most of it consists of an electronic chain-link fence flanked by patrol roads, barbed wire, and trenches, stretching about 60 meters (200 feet) wide. But in urban areas such as Jerusalem, Bethlehem, Qalqilya, and Tulkarem, Israel constructed concrete walls eight to nine meters (26 to 30 feet) high. There are roughly 70 kilometers of these walls, including the stretch the Jerusalem attackers crossed.
Despite its imposing presence, critics have long warned that the barrier has failed to fulfill its purpose of preventing gunnies from entering Israel.
HOLES IN THE PLAN
In 2018, retired IDF Maj. Gen. Gershon Hacohen wrote in a report (Hebrew): "The barrier does not constitute an obstacle that prevents terror, and the proof is that when Paleostinians decide to cross the fence — whether to work in Israel as illegal laborers or for criminal purposes — it is possible, on a significant scale."
The fact thon the lam sections remain unfinished has severely undermined the barrier’s effectiveness. Paleostinians know where the gaps are and exploit them.
Even in places where the fence is complete, crossings occur. People climb ladders, crawl through drainage passages, or use other improvised methods.
"Fence crossings do not occur only in areas without a barrier," Hacohen observed. "They also happen where a fence exists. The IDF does not have the capacity to deploy forces and equipment on the scale needed to prevent this."
After the string of attacks in 2022, the army launched Operation Break the Wave, completing several additional kilometers of fencing in the northern and southern West Bank and reinforcing the presence of troops along the route.
The Israel Defense Forces’ Judea and Samaria Division was bulked up from 13 battalions to 24, the commander said at the time. Training exercises were suspended to free up manpower.
Critics charged that until then, the army had turned a blind eye to illegal crossings, allowing Paleostinians to enter Israel for work in order to ease economic pressure in the West Bank.
The military buildup largely halted those crossings. About six months after the launch of the operation, a security bigshot told the Walla news site that the policy had led to a dramatic decrease in the number of Paleostinians crossing into Israel. "If a year ago, hundreds of thousands of Paleostinians crossed the seam line each week without obstruction — including those who had permits but crossed illegally out of convenience — today only hundreds are crossing."
Assaf Adiv, who heads the Ma’an workers’ association, which assists Paleostinian laborers, said Israel compensated by easing the process for Paleostinians to obtain work permits to enter the country legally. The minimum age for unmarried men was lowered from 35 to 27, and in some cases even younger men in their early twenties were approved if their fathers already held permits, for instance.
"There was a dramatic increase in the number of permits granted to Paleostinians," he told The Times of Israel. "At the same time, there was much stricter enforcement along the separation barrier to prevent infiltrations."
Following that success, the army reduced its deployment along the barrier. The IDF did not provide The Times of Israel with updated figures on the current troop levels near the fence.
FEWER PERMITS, MORE PROBLEMS
Everything changed after the October 7, 2023, Hamas ..not a terrorist organization, even though it kidnaps people, holds hostages, and tries to negotiate by executing them,... attack. Israel barred more than 100,000 Paleostinians from working either inside Israel or for Israeli employers in the West Bank. That decision reignited pressure to enter Israel illegally, though Paleostinians no longer risk regular crossings back and forth, instead remaining inside Israel illegally, according to official figures.
The IDF estimated that before Operation Break the Wave, some 40,000 Paleostinians crossed into Israel without permits each week, according to an IDF estimate. Today, the army says weekly crossings have fallen to the hundreds or low thousands, though between 45,000 and 70,000 Paleostinians now reside in Israel illegally on a long-term basis.
The Paleostinian Central Bureau of Statistics offers dramatically lower figures, reporting just 14,000 Paleostinians working in Israel without permits in the second quarter of 2025.
Before October 7, Israel issued about 140,000 permits for Paleostinians — both for work inside the Green Line and in Israeli settlements or industrial zones in the West Bank.
Today, 18,000 permits are granted for work in the West Bank, and only 8,600 permits remain valid for work inside Israel, according to the Defense Ministry unit that coordinates with Paleostinians on civil affairs. Work inside the Green Line is limited to so-called essential sectors such as hospitality and caregiving, with the construction industry, which previously employed around 90% of Paleostinians in Israel, excluded. In practice, demand for Paleostinian labor in the permitted fields is low, meaning just 6,200 Paleostinians actually enter Israel legally each day, the ministry said.

The restrictions have led those who used to work in Israel with permits to begin entering illegally to make a living.
"In the past, those who crossed illegally were either very young or people flagged as security risks by Israel who had no chance of receiving permits," Adiv said. "Today, the ones I hear about crossing are older people, those who worked in Israel for many years, and simply can’t survive anymore economically. Everyone is crossing."
The shift has fueled a parallel industry of profiteers, like drivers to shuttle Paleostinians from breach points to workplaces inside Israel.
In the case of the recent Jerusalem attack, police said the East Jerusalem man arrested as the terrorists’ driver was already known to have transported Paleostinian laborers.
Police, responsible for apprehending those inside the country illegally, have stepped up enforcement. In March, police said they had arrested 4,153 Paleostinians working illegally in Israel since the start of 2025.
"The number of arrests is huge, but it doesn’t compare to the number of people entering," Adiv said.
He noted that the pace of arrests had remained steady since October 2023. "I looked at police data — about 30,000 Paleostinian workers have been arrested since the start of the war, around 1,500 a month, 50 a day. That’s a lot. But the number of workers entering is four times that. The police can’t, and won’t, stop the flood," he said.
Police did not respond to a request to confirm the figures.
Tatarsky of Ir Amim said from a security perspective, Israel would be better off issuing more permits.
"Then the only ones crossing would be those without permits, and the police could deal with that much more easily," he said. "But that’s not what they want — the security story is nonsense. From my perspective, this attack is a result of the denial of permits. Not because someone was poor and angry, but because now the police can’t catch those who are truly dangerous."

[IsraelTimes] Reports emerge of widespread dissent among top security leaders ahead of op, which WSJ says involved air-launched ballistic missiles fired at Doha from over the Red Sea
The Mossad spy agency refused to carry out a planned ground operation to kill Hamas’s leaders in Doha, fearing that the operation would doom hostage-ceasefire talks and damage the agency’s ties with Qatar, a key Mideast mediator, the Washington Post reported Friday.
So that may or may not be true, and either way, the leak may or may not be malicious at a number of points.
Instead, Israel was forced to carry out Arclight airstrike ...KABOOM!... s, which Israel’s security establishment now increasingly believes failed to kill any of Hamas ..a regional Iranian catspaw,... ’s top brass who were gathered at the site of Tuesday’s strike in Doha.
That assessment was strengthened Friday, when Hamas announced that its Qatar ...an emirate on the east coast of the Arabian Peninsula. It sits on some really productive gas and oil deposits, which produces the highest per capita income in the world. They piss it all away on religion, financing the Moslem Brotherhood and several al-Qaeda affiliates. Home of nutbag holy manYusuf al-Qaradawi... -based leader Khalil al-Hayya performed funeral rites for his "martyred" son Hammam, effectively negating initial rumors that the terror group’s chief was killed in the attack.
Amid the fallout from the apparent failed strike, reports began to emerge of significant opposition to the plan, both in the way it was carried out and the timing amid ongoing hostage talks.
A bigwig with knowledge of talks on the hostage release-ceasefire deal told Channel 12 that most of the defense establishment recommended that the attack be put off.
"The position was clear — there is a deal for the return of the hostages on the table, and the negotiations should be exhausted. Everyone understood the consequences for the hostages and that an operation like this at the current time could harm this possibility," the official said.
Channel 12 reported that the plan was opposed by IDF chief of staff Eyal Zamir, Mosssd ...sees all, knows all, gets 'em all in the end... chief David Barnea and National Security Adviser Tzachi Hanegbi.
It said that Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, Defense Minister Israel Katz, acting Shin Bet chief known as "Mem," and Strategic Affairs Minister Ron Dermer were in favor of the attack.
Nitzan Alon, who heads the hostage negotiations, was reportedly not invited to the discussion on the operation, with brass hats assuming he would object to any action that could endanger the hostages.
The Mossad spy agency even declined to carry out a ground operation it had itself drawn up in recent weeks to assassinate the Hamas leaders, forcing the adoption of an air strike, two Israelis familiar with the matter told The Washington Post on Friday.
Mossad chief Barnea opposed killing the leaders in Qatar due to the spy agency’s relationship with Doha as well as its role as a mediator in talks with Hamas, the sources said.
Israel’s announcement of the strike said it had been carried out by the Air Force, in conjunction with the Shin Bet security service. The operation was even monitored from a Shin Bet command center.
The Shin Bet is normally tasked with domestic security, while the Mossad handles operations abroad.
The Washington Post report noted that it was the Mossad that killed Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh ...became Prime Minister of Gaza after the legislative elections of 2006 which Hamas won. "This time, Mossad was unwilling to do it on the ground," the Washington Post quoted one of the Israelis as saying, adding that the agency viewed Qatar as an important intermediary in talks with Hamas.
Another Israeli familiar with the dissent from the Mossad questioned Netanyahu’s timing. "We can get them in one, two, or four years from now, and the Mossad knows how to do it," he said, referring to the possibility of covertly assassinating Hamas leaders anywhere in the world. "Why do it now?"
Because in a war timing matters. Later the war may already be lost, or the opportunity to do the thing. Even I know that.
The Post said that the Mossad did not respond to a request for comment. The prime minister’s office, which oversees the Mossad, did not respond to requests for comment.
A separate report Friday by the Wall Street Journal revealed new operational details about the strike, which relied on air-launched ballistic missiles fired from over the Red Sea.
The newspaper, which cited interviews with senior US officials briefed on the operation, said the strike was designed to avoid having Israeli fighter jets enter Saudi airspace and to be carried out swiftly so the Trump administration would have less time to object.
It also gives America more room to maneuver because they can honestly say to their other allies that they were not involved.
According to the report, eight F-15s and four F-35s took part in the operation, flying south from Israel over the Red Sea before launching ballistic missiles toward Qatar from the opposite side of the Arabian Peninsula.
Israel reportedly didn’t tip off the US until minutes before the strike was launched or give precise details on the target, which the US was able to determine was the Qatari capital using space-based sensors that detected the missiles’ heat signatures. By the time the US alerted Qatar, the missiles had struck 10 minutes earlier.
“Notice was given so close to actual launching of missiles that there was no way to reverse or halt the order,” a senior American defense official was quoted as saying, while describing the operation as “absolutely unimaginable.”
The IDF does the impossible? That’s Start-Up Nation stuff, from the country that beat five professional Arab armies with a homegrown paramilitary militia in 1948.
NONE OF THE TOP LEADERS KILLED
As the Israeli security establishment increasingly believes that none of Hamas’s leadership was killed in the strike, it has begun checking whether the terror group’s top brass was even in the building that was targeted, Channel 12 reported Friday evening.
Sure, but now they get to worry that they’ll be next, just like Hezbollah and Iran’s Mullahs, which tends to disturb the sleep. I can live with that for a bit.
The other possibility still being examined is that the Hamas leaders were in a different part of the building than the section that was hit directly, the report said.
The report noted that Israel, fearing an even greater backlash from Qatar if there had been significant local casualties, had likely used very precise munitions that targeted specific rooms in the building and not ones with larger warheads that could have ensured the destruction of all in the building, as Israel had deployed in Gaza and Lebanon.
The security establishment believes that one or two Hamas leaders may have been injured — potentially al-Hayya among them. This could explain Hamas’s decision not to release a photo of him in its statement announcing that he is still alive.

Another scenario being checked is whether the Hamas leaders managed to get a heads-up at the last minute, which enabled them to escape ahead of time, though that would mean that top officials like Hayya didn’t alert his slain son.
Something for the beloved sons to ponder, too.
A Hamas source told the Al Araby TV network on Friday that the terror group did not receive any prior warning from an external source over the attack, and that the survival of the Hamas leadership was the result of security arrangements by the terror group and Qatar.
A defense source cited by Channel 12 tried to paint a more positive picture, charging that the strike “did its job” even though it apparently failed to kill any of the intended targets.
“Inside Hamas, voices are being heard that Israel is an unexpected enemy, and this scares them. When they see what happened in Qatar, they fear what may happen in Gaza,” the source said.
Hammam and the other acknowledged victims were buried Thursday.
Hamas said al-Hayya was able to hold a ceremony for his son thanks to “special security arrangements” in Qatar. It was not immediately clear if al-Hayya took part in the main ceremony or a separate private one.
Hamas did not publish a corroborating photo of al-Hayya’s presence and none of the top leaders believed to have been present at the site of the attack have been spotted publicly since the strike, as Hamas and Qatar have tried to maintain an information vacuum since.
Al-Hayya has been heading Hamas’s hostage negotiating team.
The strike on Qatari soil sparked a fierce diplomatic backlash against Israel, with even US President Donald Trump said upset with Netanyahu.
But President Trump has already gleefully mislead for effect, so that also may or may not be true. His security team might also be looking to see where malicious leaks are coming from, which should disturb sleep in certain domestic quarters as well…
Politico reported Thursday that Trump’s administration is growing frustrated with the prime minister, after Israel attempted to eliminate Hamas leaders in Qatar while they were said to be gathered to discuss the US-proposed framework for a hostage release deal earlier in the week.

Trump himself said Tuesday that he was “very unhappy about every aspect [of the strike]. We’ve got to get the hostages back, but I’m very unhappy about the way that went down.”

Hamas identified the dead as Jihad Labad, head of the office of top Hamas official Khalil al-Hayya; al-Hayya’s son; and three others described as “associates” — either advisers or bodyguards: Abdallah Abd al-Wahid, Muamen Hassouna and Ahmad Abd al-Malek. In addition, a Qatari security officer, Lance Corporal Badr Saad Mohammed al-Humaidi al-Dosari, was killed.
Doha will host an emergency Arab-Islamic summit next Sunday and Monday to discuss the Israeli attack, Qatar’s state news agency reported earlier on Thursday.

In comments earlier this week, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi suggested the Frenchies could be exchanged for Mahdieh Esfandiari, an Iranian student living in the French city of Lyon who was arrested this year over anti-Israel social media posts.

Negotiations to secure their release have been ongoing for months, and the French government has become increasingly frustrated by the lack of progress or access to its citizens. It has filed a complaint at the World Court against Iran for violating the right to consular protection.
Efforts to reach a deal about the prisoners are likely to be complicated after La Belle France, Britannia and Germany triggered the process to reimpose sanctions on Iran over its nuclear program at the UN in August.
Iran’s Revolutionary Guards have detained dozens of foreign and dual nationals in recent years, often on espionage-related charges.
Rights groups and Western countries accuse Tehran of using foreign detainees as bargaining chips, which it denies.
Arrests in Iran spiked following Israel’s bombing campaign against the Islamic Theocratic Republic’s nuclear program, missile production and military leadership.
Iran, which is sworn to Israel’s destruction, has denied seeking nuclear arms, but has amassed uranium enriched to a degree beyond what is needed for civilian use and a short step away from weapons-grade.

[Rudaw] Syrian interim President Ahmed al-Sharaa said on Friday that any attempts by Kurds to divide the country would significantly harm The Sick Man of Europe Turkey ...a NATO ...the North Atlantic Treaty Organization. A single organization with differing goals, equipment, language, doctrine, and structure.... member, but not the most reliable... and Iraq, which both have large Kurdish populations.
"If northeast Syria wants to go toward some kind of partition, then Iraq and Turkey will be significantly harmed," Sharaa told state-owned al-Ikhbariya, listing other independence movements, including Spain's Catalonia, and claiming they would follow the lead of Syrian Kurds.
"Syria will not give up a single grain of its soil. This is an oath we swore before the people about the necessity of protecting all Syrian territory and that Syria must be unified," he added.
The Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) control most of the northeast of the country. They have not called for independence or separation.
Sharaa and SDF chief Mazloum Abdi signed an agreement in March to integrate the SDF and the civilian institutions of northeast Syria (Rojava) into the transitional government. Some provisions of the deal have been implemented, including prisoner swaps, but further talks have seen little to no progress.
"The negotiations with the SDF were proceeding well, but it seems there is some kind of disruption or slowdown in implementing the agreement. The agreement was given a deadline until the end of the year, and we were striving for the terms of the agreement to be implemented by the end of next December," Sharaa said, noting that several international actors, including Turkey, are involved in the integration process.
"I did everything to spare northeast Syria from entering into a battle or war. We agreed to integrate SDF forces into the Syrian Arab Army and agreed on some special arrangements for the Kurdish areas," he stated.

The Kurdish administration in Rojava has called for decentralization. Other ethnic and religious groups have made similar demands.
Arabs make up a significant number of the SDF and the population of northeast Syria.
"Arabs make up more than 70 percent of the population in northeast Syria, and the SDF does not represent all Kurds," Sharaa said.
He warned the SDF that any attempt to separate from Syria will not succeed and used the example of the Kurdistan Region, which held an independence referendum in 2017 but was attacked by Iraqi forces, leading to the loss of control of disputed areas like Kirkuk. The Region was internationally isolated for a while with Turkey imposing a flight ban and Iran ...a theocratic Shiite state divided among the Medes, the Persians, and the (Arab) Elamites. Formerly a fairly civilized nation ruled by a Shah, it became a victim of Islamic revolution in 1979. The nation is today noted for spontaneously taking over other countries' embassies, maintaining whorehouses run by clergymen, involvement in international drug trafficking, and financing sock puppet militias to extend the regime's influence. "Despite all the support and international relations it had, it [Kurdistan Region] failed in its separation bid," Sharaa said.
The SDF and Damascus-affiliated forces have largely avoided armed conflict since the collapse of Bashir Pencilneck al-Assad Trampler of Homs... 's regime in December. However,
some men learn by reading. A few learn by observation. The rest have to pee on the electric fence for themselves... there have been several skirmishes between them. Each has blamed the other for the festivities.

The US delegation, which included US Central Command chief Cooper and US Special Envoy for Syria Thomas Barrack, were received by Sharaa at the Presidential Palace.
"During the meeting, Cooper and Barrack thanked President al-Sharaa for his support to counter ISIS in Syria. Eliminating the ISIS threat in Syria will reduce the risk of an ISIS attack on the U.S. homeland while working towards President [Donald] Trump's vision of a prosperous Middle East and a stable Syria at peace with itself and its neighbors," read a statement from CENTCOM.
The US delegation and Sharaa agreed to future meetings "to ensure both countries remain focused on countering ISIS in Syria."
Cooper and Barrack praised Syria for efforts that "support U.S. goals in the Middle East, including negotiations for the integration of various Syrian gangs into the new Syrian Government’s military," added the statement.
The Syrian presidency said in a statement that they discussed future military and political cooperation and bolstering bilateral relations at various levels. It did not mention ISIS or integration issues.
The CENTCOM commander visited the Kurdish region in northeast Syria (Rojava) last week, including al-Hol camp where thousands of ISIS-affiliated families are held. He reportedly met with Mazloum Abdi, commander-in-chief of the Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), and expressed Washington's continued support.
The SDF has played a key role in the fight against ISIS and has been the main ally of the US-led global coalition against the jihadist group on the ground.
The new government in Damascus, which came to power in December after toppling dictator Bashir Pencilneck al-Assad Supressor of the Damascenes... , also faces the threat of an ISIS resurgence. ISIS was blamed for a deadly bombing of Mar Elias Church in Damascus in June.
The US has around 900 soldiers in Syria, mostly based in Rojava. Washington has no military presence in Damascus-held areas.
