He added that residents have, however, returned to Mafa and that no further incidents has been reported.

[GUARDIAN.NG] A Nigerian court has sentenced the presumed leader of the Ansaru jihadist group, Mahmud Muhammad Usman, to 15 years in prison for what local media on Thursday termed ''illegal mining activities''.
Nigerian authorities announced the capture of Usman and fellow Ansuru leader Mahmud al-Nigeri in mid-August.
Usman pleaded guilty to the mining charge — the activity having allowed him to procure firearms for attacks by his group, Nigerian media reported.
He also faces 31 other charges, including acts of terrorism and kidnapping, for which he faces an October trial.
Ansaru grew out of a 2021 split within the Boko Haram group, and the group then allied itself with al-Qaeda in the Islamic Maghreb (AQIM).
[PRNIGERIA] Troops of 3 Division and the Joint Task Force Operation Enduring Peace (JTF OPEP) have arrested two notorious cattle rustlers and recovered firearms in a successful operation in Plateau State.
The military said the operation, which was based on credible intelligence, took place on Thursday, 11 September 2025, at Kogul Village in Mangu Local Government Area.
During the raid, soldiers recovered one AK-47 rifle, a fabricated revolver rifle, an AK-47 magazine, ten rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition, a mobile phone and cash.
Major Samson Nantip Zhakom, Media Information Officer of JTF OPEP, confirmed the arrest in a statement on Thursday, saying the suspects and exhibits are in jug for further investigation.
He added that follow-up operations are ongoing to track down other members of the cattle rustling syndicate believed to be behind recurring attacks and crises in the area.
''The arrest is pivotal to the ongoing efforts to tackle the triggers of crisis in the Joint Operations Area. Troops remain resolute in their mandate to secure communities and restore peace across Plateau State,'' the statement read.
The military urged residents to continue supporting security agencies with credible information to aid ongoing operations against criminal networks in the region.

[PRNIGERIA] Troops of the 12 Brigade Nigerian Army, working alongside Hybrid Forces and local vigilantes, have rescued 17 kidnapped victims, including four children, after bandidos struck along the Obajana—Lokoja Road in Kogi State.
The Army said the incident occurred on Wednesday, 10 September 2025, when bandidos intercepted a 17-seater bus conveying passengers from Osun State to Abuja. The criminals forced the travellers into the bush after abandoning the vehicle by the roadside at Opamaru Village.
A swift response team from the Patrol Base in Apata, reinforced by the Brigade's Quick Response Group, immediately launched a rescue mission.
According to a statement by Lieutenant Hassan Abdullahi, Acting Assistant Director of Army Public Relations for 12 Brigade, the troops tracked the kidnappers' footprints to Wuro Village in Adavi Local Government Area.
On contact, the bandidos were overpowered by the soldiers' superior firepower and fled into the bush with gunshot wounds, leaving all 17 captives behind. The rescued victims, comprising 13 adults and four children, were evacuated to the 12 Brigade Medical Centre for first aid and stabilisation.

a good lie finds more believers than a bad truth... the official gave no indication that the suspect, identified as 27-year-old Tarek Zahabe, was connected to Iran, and it appeared he had been acting independently.
Police said Wednesday that Zahabe was arrested in July and accused of orchestrating the January attacks. The arrests followed months of investigations by Strike Force Pearl, a police task force established earlier this year in Sydney to investigate the antisemitic attacks.
Investigators said Zahabe was responsible for attacking a child-care center near the Maroubra Synagogue, which was set on fire and vandalized with antisemitic graffiti on January 21. He was also charged with vandalizing a Jewish school in Maroubra with antisemitic slurs on January 30.
Earlier that month, on January 17, Zahabe was accused of ordering an attack on the former home of Jewish community leader Alex Ryvchin. The house was splashed with red paint, and several cars outside were set on fire, with antisemitic graffiti scrawled across one burned-out vehicle.
Police confirmed on Thursday that Ryvchin, co-CEO of the Executive Council of Australian Jewry (ECAJ), was intentionally targeted in that attack, something they hadn’t conceded previously.
Police have also charged Zahabe and an alleged accomplice, 26-year-old Kye Pickering, in relation to an incident on January 10, when the Allawah synagogue was defaced. Detectives say Zahabe directed and assisted Pickering in carrying out the vandalism.
Zahabe faces two counts of participating in a criminal group to contribute to criminal activity and knowingly or recklessly directing a criminal group to assist in crime. Pickering has been charged with knowingly displaying a Nazi symbol without excuse, destroying or damaging property worth more than $2,000, and participating in a criminal group.
Both men are scheduled to appear in court on October 30.
"We thank the NSW Police for their tireless effort and determination in bringing these alleged offenders to justice," the New South Wales Jewish Board of Deputies said on social media following the arrests. Are those Meta glasses? [FoxNews] The FBI has released new photos of the person of interest in the assassination of conservative speaker Charlie Kirk, who was shot and killed Wednesday afternoon at Utah Valley University during a public speaking event.

The images show a thin male wearing jeans, a long-sleeved black shirt with an American flag graphic, black sunglasses and a hat. Authorities released a new set of photos on Thursday evening, giving the clearest look yet at the person of interest.
Authorities said a short while later that the FBI was offering a $100,000 bounty for information that helps crack the case.
Investigators said Thursday morning that they had traced the sniper's escape route and recovered a "high-powered, bolt-action rifle," according to FBI Salt Lake City Special Agent in Charge Robert Bohls. He said they also had obtained foot, palm and forearm imprints linked to the crime.
The news came after two separate announcements from authorities about having someone in custody — and later releasing those individuals.
A single gunshot rang out around 12:20 p.m. local time, a school spokeswoman said, about 20 minutes into a speech from Kirk on campus at Utah Valley University.
Dispatchers audio includes a suspect description.
"He’s going to be wearing all black, black long gun, black tactical helmet, a black mask, possibly wearing a tactical vest and jeans," a female dispatcher said over the radio, according to recordings.
Authorities said the killer arrived around 11:52 a.m. and climbed to a rooftop through a campus building's stairwell. The 31-year-old Kirk's event began at noon. After the shooting, the suspected assassin jumped down the other side of the building and fled into a neighborhood, where police were canvassing for video evidence.
Kirk, a father of two and the founder of Turning Point USA, died of his injuries.
Graphic video shows him struck and slumping over, before panic ripples through the large crowd in attendance, with people screaming and running for cover. Other videos appear to show someone moving on the rooftop of a building across from where Kirk was speaking in the center of a green space.
The school has more than 40,000 students. An event organizer told Fox News Digital that 1,400 people RSVP'd to the event. The organizer said that many people had come from out of state to see Kirk speak.
The Utah Department of Public Safety later said about 3,000 people attended the event.
"We had a speaker, Charlie Kirk, who was invited by a student group, Turning Point USA, who was speaking on campus today at noon," Ellen Treanor, the associate vice president of strategic and communication management at Utah Valley University, said in a statement.
"At about 12:20 shots were fired from a building about 200 yards from the speaker. To the best of our knowledge, the individual was hit and was taken away immediately by his security personnel."
Wednesday’s event, billed as the first stop on Kirk’s “The American Comeback Tour,” had generated a polarizing campus reaction. An online petition calling for university administrators to bar Kirk from appearing received nearly 1,000 signatures. The university issued a statement last week citing First Amendment rights and affirming its “commitment to free speech, intellectual inquiry, and constructive dialogue.”
I imagine the FBI is contact tracing those signatures…
Last week, Kirk posted on X images of news clips showing his visit was sparking controversy. He wrote, “What’s going on in Utah?”

Bashiri detailed that the sweeping and searching operation was carried out in the Hawi Sadr al-Nahr area west of Kirkuk province, a region "overlooking the Zab River, to pursue and eliminate remnants of ISIS terrorist gangs."
"The operation was launched based on accurate intelligence information, which indicated suspicious movements in the area that may be linked to remnants of ISIS elements," he said.
The military official stressed that the operation aimed to "comb the lands and areas surrounding the river and prevent their exploitation by terrorist elements, in addition to enhancing security and stability in the villages and neighboring areas."
The official, however, did not detail whether or not they arrested any suspects during the combing operation.

Seven of those killed were searching for food when they were hit, health officials said.
The Hamas figures could not immediately be be verified and do not differentiate between civilians and button men.
On Thursday morning, Paleostinians in the relatively unscathed al-Naser area of Gaza City were having to decide whether to stay or go, after the IDF dropped leaflets warning that troops would soon take control of the western neighborhood.
That’s just stupid.
The warning came less than a day after the military said it would increase its strikes on Gaza City in the coming days with the intention of "targeting Hamas’ terror infrastructure, disrupting its operational readiness, and reducing the threat to our forces as part of preparations for the next stages" of the offensive.
In an overview of the division’s activities, the military said its forces had demolished dozens of kilometers’ worth of Hamas tunnels; razed hundreds of Hamas military infrastructures; established the so-called Magen Oz corridor splitting east and west Khan Younis; and eliminated hundreds of terror operatives, including some who participated in the October 7 onslaught.
As part of its preparation, the military has ordered the roughly one million people residing in Gaza City to evacuate the area. On Thursday, as some families continued to stream out of their homes, heading either westward towards the center of the city and along the coast, or south toward other parts of the shattered enclave, others were either unwilling or unable to leave.
"It has been almost two years, with no rest, no settling down, not even sleep," said Ahmed al-Dayeh, a father, as he and his family prepared to flee the city in a truck pulled by a cycle of violence, laden with some of their belongings.
"Our life revolves around war," he said. "We have to go from this area to that area. We can’t take it anymore, we are tired."
"We don’t have enough money, enough to flee. We don’t have any means to go south like they say," said Abu Hani, who was attending the funeral of a friend who was among those killed in Thursday’s strikes.
Israel has bodies that took two years to identify because the burnt corpses were so damaged they weren’t sure how many people were in each lump. Hamas continues to fight for the opportunity to repeat 10/7 ad infinitum, and you are whining because you are give the generous opportunity to escape from the battlefield rather than be caught in the crossfire? Honestly, it’s a wonder the Arabs didn’t die out from sheer stupidity in 1948.
Amid its preparations for the offensive, the IDF said on Thursday that it has expanded its operations on the outskirts of Gaza City’s Sheikh Radwan neighborhood and the Kafr Jabalia area in recent days.
During the operations, the 162nd Division’s forces located and destroyed dozens of Hamas sites, including booby traps, weapon depots, and two tunnels spanning hundreds of meters, the military said.
In addition, the IDF says dozens of terror operatives were killed by the forces and in strikes, including a platoon commander in Hamas’s Sheikh Radwan Battalion and the commander of a Nukhba Force cell who invaded Israel during the October 7 onslaught.
In total, five IDF divisions, made up of tens of thousands of troops, are set to participate in the Gaza City offensive, the army has said. Among those is the IDF’s 36th Division, which the IDF said on Thursday had been withdrawn from Khan Younis, in southern Gaza, after several months in order to prepare for the upcoming campaign.

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu held a high-level meeting on Thursday to discuss the possible "voluntary emigration" of Paleostinians from the Gaza Strip, the Times of Israel learned from one of the attendees. Among those attending were senior defense officials and cabinet ministers. The forum was discussing a plan presented by the defense establishment that would enable Gazooks to begin leaving the war-torn Strip as early as October by air and sea, Channel 13 reported.
The Prime Minister’s Office did not respond to a request for comment.
Channel 12, publishing what it said were leaks from the meeting, said Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich was skeptical about the prospects of any countries agreeing to take Gazooks in, and argued that the plan was not worth spending money on if the Gazooks would be back home in a year. Netanyahu responded that Israel wouldn’t spend much on the plan, but that Israel should move it forward.
"Do it," said National Security Minister Itamar Ben Gvir. "It’s the mission of the hour."
Science and Technology Minister Gila Gamliel reportedly argued that Israel should push Egypt to take in the Gazooks. "You try," responded Netanyahu dismissively.
Defense sources told Channel 13 that Israel was in talks with a number of African countries about receiving Gazooks, but that no agreement has been reached as of yet.
Last month, Israel was reported to be in talks with South Sudan ...a Moslem country located in the Horn of Africa. It is noted for its affinity for rule by ex- or current generals, its holy men, and for the oppression of the native Afro population by its Arab conquerors. South Sudan, populated mostly by the natives, split off from Sudan proper, which left North and South Darfur to be oppressed by the guys with turbans... about the possibility of resettling Paleostinians from the Gaza Strip to the war-torn East African country, although Juba denied that this was the case, calling the reports "baseless."

[Rudaw] Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) on Thursday announced they had repelled "infiltration attempts and artillery attacks" from groups "affiliated with the Damascus government" in eastern Aleppo's Deir Hafer area.
"Our forces firmly repelled infiltration attempts and artillery attacks launched by unruly groups affiliated with the Damascus government in the Deir Hafer area, completely thwarting these operations," the SDF announced in an X post on Thursday.
It warned that "any further attempts at aggression will be met with a decisive response that safeguards our region’s security and preserves the dignity of its inhabitants."
"Our forces reassure all residents that the situation is fully under control and that they remain in constant readiness to confront any further violations," the SDF said.
Backed by the United States, the SDF functions as the de facto military force in the Kurdish-majority northeast Syria (Rojava). It remains a key partner of the US-led global coalition against the Islamic State ...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that they were al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're really very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear western pols talk they're not really Moslems.... (ISIS).
The SDF and groups it claims to be associated with Damascus, have engaged in sporadic festivities mostly around regions where the Kurdish-led force holds sway.
The flare-up between the SDF and Damascus is straining an integration deal signed in March by Syria’s interim President Ahmed al-Sharaa and SDF commander Mazloum Abdi. The agreement aims to fold the SDF into the Syrian state military structure, recognize the Kurds as an integral part of Syria, implement a nationwide ceasefire, and enable the return of displaced Syrians to their hometowns.
Talks on implementing the agreement have stalled for several reasons, including the SDF insisting on integrating into the Syrian army as a unit while Damascus wants them to do so as individuals.
In late August, five SDF members were maimed in an attack purportedly carried out by Damascus-affiliated groups in the eastern Deir ez-Zor province. The Kurdish-led force at the time held the Syrian interim government "directly responsible" for the assault.
Earlier that month, the Kurdish-led internal security forces (Asayish), affiliated with the SDF, reported that two of their members were maimed when a "suicide drone" launched by the Syrian interim government struck a security checkpoint in northern Aleppo.

The SDF is the army of the Kurdish government in Syria.
Are you perhaps thinking of the Syrian National Army, also known as the Free Syrian Army? They’re paid by Turkey, mostly to attack Kurds, and were built around the Syrian Muslim Brotherhood units that originally rebelled against the Assad government back in 2011, plus recalcitrant ISIS fighters and whatever Al Qaeda in X units that did not attach to what is now the governing Al Nusra/Hayat Tahrir al Sham conquerers of Syria.
The Syrian Arab Army was — and perhaps still is, I’ve lost track — the army of the Assad government, and therefore the national army of Syria. I seem to recall the troops were given the option to pledge allegiance to the HTS government, but I don’t know what they call it now. I do know that the Kurds and the Druze both complain that HTS-linked units are still running over the conquered peoples with hobnailed boots, but which units never seems to be named.
