[ShabelleMedia] Somalia’s military court on Monday morning carried out the execution of two members of the al-Qaeda-linked al-Shabaab ... the Islamic version of the old Somali warlord... group, who were convicted of carrying out targeted liquidations in the capital, officials said.
The two men — identified as Abdirahman Mohammed Abdullahi, also known as "Maaxi" or "Younis," and Ibrahim Adan Maadey — were executed by firing squad early in the morning in Mogadishu, following a final ruling by the Armed Forces Court.
According to the court, the men were part of al-Shabaab’s liquidation units responsible for ambush-style killings targeting civilians, government officials, and members of the security forces.
"They were involved in deliberate killings of prominent individuals in Mogadishu," the court said in a statement, adding that the executions were carried out after all legal procedures and appeals were exhausted.
Somalia’s military court has intensified the prosecution and execution of convicted al-Shabaab operatives in recent months, as the government ramps up efforts to dismantle the group’s urban networks.
Al-Shabaab, which has waged a deadly insurgency in Somalia for over a decade, frequently carries out bombings and assassinations in Mogadishu and other regions under government control.

which had already rescued 87 people from two sinking boats when it turned towards a third distress signal on August 24.
The attack happened about 40 nautical miles north of the Libyan coast, outside Libyan territorial waters.
As the Norwegian-flagged ship changed course, a Libyan patrol boat closed in at high speed, and crew members said the officers were armed and opened fire without warning.
Crew members say the incident occurred despite the relevant authorities being informed about their mission. "We don't care. Can you tell?"
Lucille Guenier, the ship's communications officer, said: 'We are used to this, we know they will intimidate us. I realised that now they're pointing arms at us - we didn't have a moment to do anything and they opened fire, shooting at the bridge.' Lucille is an old hand, zo pas de probleme.
Angelo Selim, who was the search and rescue coordinator on board, said: 'In the beginning, I didn't understand the noise of the shots. But when the first windows exploded on my head, we all got on the floor.' You'll "understand the noise" on future voyages no doubt.
He said that the shots being fired appeared to be coming from automatic weapons. Selim says he also heard the coast guard threatening: 'If you don't leave the area, we will come and kill you all.'
The gunfire lasted for around 15 to 20 minutes, according to the crew, who described it as 'hundreds of shots'. Bullets smashed through the bridge windows as a translator tried to calm the situation.
'They started insulting him and his family,' Guenier said. 'This time the bullets were coming through the walls and windows of the bridge, the windows were exploding, glass was going everywhere.' In another interview, Guenier said she felt 'we are going to die.'
According to The Times, Patrick, a 29-year-old British crew member, said he was asleep when the shooting began. 'I didn't realise the gravity of the situation until I heard the rounds,' he said. 'I had to grab my boots and ran, carrying them in my arms.'
The crew gathered in the ship's citadel for safety. 'Some people were in shock and crying. We feared for our colleagues who were still on the bridge,' Patrick added.
The Ocean Viking abandoned its rescue attempt and asked Italian authorities for a safe port. It later sent distress calls to NATO and the Italian navy.
The Libyan vessel was a Corrubia-class patrol boat supplied by Italy in 2023 as part of an EU programme to strengthen Libya's border forces.
'The Libyan ship was faster than ours at 20 knots, our ship's top speed is 10 knots, so we couldn't race them, and there was a risk they'd board us,' Guenier said.
No one was injured, but the Ocean Viking suffered major damage to its bridge and three lifeboats, leaving key rescue equipment out of service.
Italian prosecutors have launched an investigation after SOS Méditerranée and the EU border agency Frontex filed complaints.
After disembarking survivors in Augusta, Sicily, the crew was held in quarantine for more than four days because one rescued migrant tested positive for tuberculosis. Patrick said it felt like 'being detained within a crime scene.'
Frontex called the incident 'deeply concerning' and said: 'No rescuer should ever be put in danger while carrying out life-saving work.'
SOS Méditerranée described the shooting as 'outrageous and unacceptable' and urged EU nations to take action over the attack.
The Libyan coastguard, which receives funding and training from the EU, has declined to comment. The UK Foreign Office said it was 'monitoring the situation.'
So far this year, 42,500 migrants have reached Italy by sea, and it has been reported that more than 700 have drowned in the central Mediterranean.

London’s Metropolitan police announced Monday that another 47 people have been charged with supporting Paleostine Action, bringing the number of activists accused of backing the banned terrorist group to 114.
The accused, who range in age from 18 to 81 years old, will appear in court on October 27 and 28 and face a possible maximum sentence of six months’ imprisonment if found guilty, the Met said in a statement.
The UK government proscribed Paleostine Action as a terror group in July after two planes were vandalized at a Royal Air Force base, causing an estimated £7 million ($9.3 million) of damage.
More than 700 people have been arrested, mostly at demonstrations, since the group was outlawed under the Terrorism Act 2000. A total of 114 of those detained have been charged.
The 47 charged most recently were all arrested at a London demonstration on July 19 this year, according to the BBC.
Rights groups have condemned the ban as legal overreach and a threat to free speech, however the British government has defended the move by arguing the ban targets a specific organization with a history of criminal activity.
Paleostine Action co-founder Huda Ammori has launched a court bid to overturn the UK government’s ban and a hearing is set for this November in the High Court.
Interior Minister Yvette Cooper has said the group had a "long history of unacceptable criminal damage," insisting that "many people may not yet know the reality of this organization." She claimed the group is "not non-violent mostly peaceful."

The latest assault targeted a centre housing young migrants after the arrest of one of its occupants - a Moroccan teenager accused of raping the girl.
On Sunday evening, two hooded individuals attacked three people near First Reception Centre in the Spanish capital - two minors and an accompanying adult.
One child was left needing hospital treatment before being discharged and police have since opened an investigation.
Francisco Martin, the representative of the socialist-led national government in the Madrid region, condemned the violence, warning: 'Hate speech ultimately manifests itself in hate crimes.'
He vowed to apply the 'full force' of the law against those responsible.
A Moroccan youth was arrested on Friday morning on suspicion of raping the 14-year-old in a nearby park. A judge has since ordered that he be held in a closed juvenile prison while inquiries continue.
In the wake of the arrest, the conservative regional government led by Isabel Ayuso announced plans to request that the accused be included in a group of 37 migrant minors deemed 'maladapted' and considered for repatriation.
That sparked a furious backlash. Spain's ruling left-wing coalition accused Ayuso and her Popular Party of exploiting the case to push their hardline stance on migration, and of echoing the rhetoric of the far-right Vox party.
Martin said: 'Madrid has recorded 256 rapes this year, yet only this case elicits such political zeal… It is unacceptable to criminalise vulnerable populations.'
Vox wasted no time in escalating its anti-immigrant message, calling for a demonstration outside the centre.
Its Madrid spokesman, Javier Ortega Smith, claimed: 'The sexual assault against a 14-year-old in Hortaleza is a consequence of the 'progressive consensus' embodied by both the socialist party and the Popular Party.
'This disastrous policy of open borders… allows violence to become widespread in neighbourhoods hosting these reception centres.'
By Monday, police had stepped up security, with vehicles and around 10 officers stationed outside the entrance.

Social media posts fuelled false claims and claims to 'hunt immigrants', leading to street clashes between locals and migrants.
Far-right groups exploited the chaos, while police made arrests and prosecutors launched hate crime investigations.
Where to house migrant children has become one of Spain's most diverse political issues.
Reception centres for unaccompanied minors are fiercely resisted by regional governments who warn about overcrowding, security, and pressure on local services.
Right-wing parties often portray them as hotbeds of crime and social tension.
[IsraelTimes] An anti-Israel, pro-Palestinian activist disrupted Israeli singer David D’Or’s concert in Warsaw, Poland, on Sunday night, throwing red paint on the musician during his performance.
D’or, a renowned classical singer, was performing at a Jewish festival in Warsaw when a woman carrying a Palestinian flag tried to storm the stage, shouted “Free Palestine,” and threw red paint on him.
The woman was quickly apprehended by security, and was removed from the auditorium.
After the concert, D’or posted a clip of the incident on his Instagram page, and said: “In the middle of the prayer, Our Father, our King, when I pray for a good year and peace in the world, I closed my eyes, when suddenly I felt a splash on my face, I opened my eyes to see a strong red color, resembling blood.
The incident comes amid a wave of anti-Israel, pro-Palestinian protests and activism against Israel and Israeli tourists abroad over the summer, including at music and film festivals and tourist destinations around Europe, over Israel’s conduct during the war in Gaza.
According to a poll published by Channel 12 last month, 56 percent of Israelis said that they fear that they will not be able to travel outside of the country due to growing international criticism of Israel over the war in the Gaza Strip.
[Jpost) In recent days, the IDF has significantly increased its use of explosive-laden armored personnel carriers (APCs), older M113 models rigged with explosives and operated remotely, as part of preparations for a ground maneuver in the heart of Gaza City.
Acting on orders from Southern Command Chief Maj.-Gen. Yaniv Asor, the deployment of these vehicles has surged, with reserve officers in the field reporting that their usage has tripled at its peak. Forces on the ground have testified to the movement of hundreds of these explosive-laden APCs toward the Gaza border.
These modified APCs are based on the aging M113 platform, which has long faced public criticism due to its vulnerability to enemy fire and maintenance challenges. During Operation Protective Edge in 2014, one such vehicle was struck by an anti-tank missile and set ablaze — an incident that led to the kidnapping of St.-Sgt. Oron Shaul. The event shocked the public and reignited debate over the continued use of these outdated vehicles.
IDF REPURPOSES APCS INTO OFFENSIVE WEAPONS
At the onset of the Israel-Hamas War, the IDF’s Logistics Technology Division developed a method to repurpose these APCs into offensive weapons. They are loaded with large quantities of explosives, transported into terrorist-controlled areas within the Gaza Strip, and detonated remotely.
According to engineering officers, the resulting blasts are designed to neutralize explosive devices planted by terrorists, destroy surveillance equipment, and eliminate hostile squads hiding in the vicinity. "This method protects our forces ahead of the ground incursion and enables faster, safer movement," the officers explained.
Over time, additional techniques for operating these vehicles have emerged, ranging from towing them into position to using robots for remote deployment. More recently, reports have surfaced about the development of explosive barrels that can be dropped by APCs along streets lined with mines and terrorist strongholds, amplifying the destructive impact. The force of these explosions is so intense that they can be heard over 100 kilometers away from the Gaza Strip.

The SDF detailed that during "direct festivities with the terrorist cell, one of the Death Eaters was maimed and subsequently detonated his boom belt. Our fighters managed to eliminate the second terrorist in the course of the engagement."
It said three SDF fighters were slightly maimed during the fight.
The latest attack by suspected remnants of ISIS comes amid a resurgence of the bad boy group's activities in Syria, where the jihadists have sought to take advantage of instability following the fall of Bashir Pencilneck al-Assad One of the last of the old-fashioned hereditary iron-fisted fascist dictators... ’s regime.
On Saturday, the SDF said that they arrested 51 ISIS suspects in an extensive operation in northeast Syria’s (Rojava) Hasaka city, seizing a significant number of weapons in the process.
"Dangerous terrorist networks were dismantled, including cells that had been plotting attacks on al-Sina’a Prison and al-Hol Camp. The campaign has neutralized the immediate threat to civilians and regional stability," the SDF said Saturday, referring to facilities in Hasaka holding ISIS-affiliated people.
A significant number of weapons were also confiscated.
Al-Sina’a prison, known locally as Ghweran, is a large complex that houses ISIS bad boys. An attempted prison break at the facility in January 2022 left at least 322 people dead after the SDF laid a week-long siege to thwart the escape.
Al-Hol camp is infamous for its squalid conditions and has been branded a breeding ground for terrorism. Iraqis and Syrians make up the majority of the nearly 28,000 held in the camp that also houses people who traveled from around the world to join ISIS.
ISIS rose to power in 2014, seizing large areas of Iraq and Syria and declaring a so-called "caliphate." The group was declared territorially defeated in Iraq in 2017 and in Syria in 2019. Despite its territorial losses, ISIS continues to pose a security threat, particularly in Syria’s vast eastern desert.
Last month, an SDF spokesperson told Rudaw that an estimated 2,000 ISIS bandidosmurderous Moslems remain active in the Syrian desert.

In a statement on X, the Iraqi National Intelligence Service (INIS) said that "through an exceptional and qualitative cross-border effort, and under the supervision of [Iraq’s] Supreme Judicial Council," it was able to dismantle the network "responsible for smuggling hard boyz across a number of countries around the world to support ISIS."
The agency added that arrests "have been made in several West African countries" following extensive surveillance of the network’s "movements and communications" with "other networks inside and outside Iraq." INIS further added that these networks were involved in financing ISIS and were "plotting terrorist attacks in European countries and against Iraqi interests overseas."
INIS noted on Monday, that the latest effort is "a continuation of a qualitative operation" it had carried out in Kirkuk in 2023, which targeted a network "responsible for financing ISIS cells."
