Armed guards have been spotted patrolling Paris streets, metal barriers now line the Seine and 45,000 cops have joined the mammoth security operation ahead of the Olympics with just days to go before it gets underway.
The much-anticipated Paris Olympics 2024 is set to become the most heavily protected Games ever as drones, AI surveillance and helicopters have been deployed following a surge in safety concerns for athletes, their staff, and the public.
The ring of steel operation will see security measures distributed across the entire city, instead of just at centralised venues like the London 2012 Olympics.
A huge force of some 45,000 police officers drafted in from 43 countries and 18,000 soldiers will make up the sprawling defence system - in what is considered France's largest deployment of troops since World War II.
But alongside human efforts, several aerial units will also be involved in the 'unprecedented' operation, including Rafale fighter jets, AWACS surveillance flights, Reaper surveillance drones and helicopters with expert snipers on board.
Some 1,700 members of the British police force are already supporting French officers in Paris and Marseille as well as UK sniffer dogs that have been handpicked by French authorities.
French President Emmanuel Macron has assured fans that 'there are Plan Bs and Plan Cs' in place should anything happen.
Images from Paris today show the city behind rows of metal barriers as locals and tourists dine at restaurants behind perimeter fencing near the River Seine - where the opening ceremony is set to take place on Friday.
The four-mile metal barricade was put in place by the Paris Police Prefecture and will remain throughout the Games to prevent and deter any trouble.

Armed Shin Bet operatives are preparing to provide security for around 88 Israeli athletes and their staff but not every person will have their own bodyguard, according to Israel's minister of culture.
Miki Zohar told The Telegraph that they had been planning the largest-ever security operation for Israeli athletes for over a year, while doubling the team's security budget.
The move comes as threats against Jews and Israelis continue to climb at an alarming rate amid the ongoing Israel-Hamas conflict unravelling in the Middle East.

[GEO.TV] Security forces have eliminated three terrorists, thwarting their attempt to infiltrate Pakistain via the Afghanistan border in District Dir of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (KP), the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said in a statement on Monday.
"On the night between July 21 and 22, 2024, the movement of three terrorists, trying to infiltrate the Pakistain-Afghanistan border, was detected by security forces in District Dir," said the military's media wing.
It said that the infiltrators were surrounded, effectively engaged and after an intense fire exchange, all three turbans were "sent to hell".
The military's media wing stated, "Pakistain has consistently been asking interim Afghan government to ensure effective border management on their side of the border."
"The interim Afghan government is expected to fulfil its obligations and deny the use of Afghan soil by turbans for perpetuating acts of terrorism against Pakistain.
"Security forces of Pakistain were determined and remain committed to securing its borders and eliminating the menace of terrorism from the country," it added.
The country has been witnessing a rise in terrorist attacks, especially in KP and Balochistan, during recent months. The last terrorist attack came last week when two soldiers and five civilians were martyred in DI Khan.
This was the second terrorist attack in a period of 24 hours as eight other soldiers were martyred while trying to foil a terrorist infiltration into Bannu Cantonment in the wee hours of July 15.

[IsraelTimes] Shin Bet says terror suspects had dug a hole near one of their homes that they intended to use to hold Israeli hostages
The Shin Bet security agency announced on Monday that it recently foiled plans by a West Bank terror cell from the Aqabat Jaber camp to carry out a kidnapping attack against Israelis.
The previous day, the agency revealed that it had foiled a plot by Paleostinian university students to carry out a shooting attack on Israelis in the West Bank.
The agency said Monday that troops recently arrested Muhammad Tarik, 19, and Amin Qatash, 20, residents of Aqabat Jaber, near Jericho, over their involvement in the kidnapping plot. A third member of the cell was detained by the Paleostinian Authority security forces, according to the Shin Bet.
The members of the West Bank terror cell had dug a hole in the ground where they intended to hold Israeli hostages, the Shin Bet said.
Tarik and Qatash established the cell, purchased firearms and other weapons, and recruited others to carry out a kidnapping alongside shooting and explosive attacks against IDF troops and civilians in the West Bank, according to the agency.
"It emerged that the cell dug a hole in which they planned to hide the hostages. The hole’s opening was camouflaged and located near the house of one of the cell members," the Shin Bet statement read.
The Shin Bet said that it had seized a makeshift submachine gun, an bomb and other military equipment connected to the suspected terror cell.
Following their arrests, the suspects were charged last week with a series of serious security offenses, including charges related to their alleged kidnapping plans.
On Sunday, the Shin Bet revealed that it had foiled a similar but unrelated terror plot by a cell made up of Hamas ..not a terrorist organization, even though it kidnaps people, holds hostages, and tries to negotiate by executing them,... representatives on the student council at Birzeit University in the West Bank. The Shin Bet said the cell was given instructions and funding by Hamas’s branch in The Sick Man of Europe Turkey ...the only place on the face of the earth that misses the Ottoman Empire... , and was plotting to carry out a shooting attack in the West Bank.
Since October 7, troops have arrested some 4,400 wanted Paleostinians across the West Bank, including more than 1,850 affiliated with Hamas.
According to the Paleostinian Authority health ministry, more than 560 West Bank Paleostinians have been killed in that time. The IDF says the vast majority of them were button men killed during raids or bully boyz carrying out attacks.
During the same period, 22 Israelis, including security personnel, have been killed in terror attacks in Israel and the West Bank. Another five members of the security forces were killed in festivities with terror operatives in the West Bank.

A Paleostinian suspect has been arrested over the murder of an Israel Prison Service employee earlier this month, authorities said on Monday.
According to police and the Shin Bet security agency, the suspect who allegedly murdered 40-year-old dog handler Yochai Avni on July 8 was detained just two days after the attack. However,

The city’s Nasser Hospital urged residents to donate blood, saying that a large number of casualties were being brought to the hospital as a result of heavy tank shelling.
Earlier, the IDF said Israeli fighter jets and drones struck more than 35 targets in the Gaza Strip over the past day, including in Khan Younis, where a primed rocket launcher was targeted, among other terror infrastructure.

"We left amidst ongoing air and tank shelling, and drones firing shots," said the 27-year-old, who saw "injured and dead people transported by tuk-tuk (three-wheeled cycle of violence) and donkey cart to Nasser Hospital" on the way.
He said that he had arrived at the adjusted humanitarian area in al-Mawasi with his family, only to discover that there was no room for them in the crowded makeshift encampment.

According to the ministry, the Israeli occupation forces committed three massacres against families in the Gaza Strip over the last 24 hours, resulting in the killing of at least 23 Palestinians and the injury of 91 others.
The ministry added that ambulance and rescue teams are still unable to reach many casualties and bodies trapped under the rubble or scattered on roads across the war-torn enclave, as Israeli occupation forces continue to obstruct the movement of ambulance and civil defense crews.

IDF says it struck several Hezbollah targets in Lebanon
[IsraelTimes] A Hezbollah operative who was spotted entering a building known to be used by the terror group in southern Leb’s Chihine was struck by fighter jets earlier today, the IDF says.
It publishes footage of the strike.
The IDF says it also struck areas near Mays al-Jabal and Kfarchouba to "remove threats."
This morning, seven explosive-laden drones were launched by Hezbollah at northern Israel.
According to the IDF, all seven were shot down by air defenses.
