[NYPOST] An "incredibly intoxicated" Pennsylvania man shot his dog and grilled the animal in a fire pit in his front yard, authorities said. Yep. I'd have to be incredibly intoxicated to do that too.
Nikolay Lukyanchikov, 48, was arrested Friday outside his Northampton Township home, where cops found a burning fire pit and a couch in flames in the front yard, police said.
"Once the fire was under control, patrol observed an unknown animal badly burned and charred on top of a small metal charcoal grill," Northampton Township police said in a statement. "It was later learned the animal was Lukyanchikov’s dog."
Lukyanchikov was "incredibly intoxicated" at the time and unable to speak, according to an affidavit of probable cause for his arrest obtained by the Philadelphia Inquirer.
Lukyanchikov was also dousing $100 bills with lighter fluid and burning them in the metal fire pit — which was topped with a barbecue grate where his pooch was cooked, according to the affidavit.
His Gramma’s recipe called for a tasty green garnish, so he did.

[LIBERTYUNYIELDING] Like the swallows returning to Capistrano every March or the cicadas, which are currently swarming the East Coast after a 17-year absence, noose sightings occur with a distressing regularity. Last year’s sighting was made in June in a park in Oakland, with the offensive reminders of Jim Crow hung menacingly from tree limbs.
Mayor Libby Schaaf immediately launched a hate crime investigation only to discover that the knotted lengths of rope had been placed there by Victor Sengbe, who is himself black and used them as part of his exercise routine.
Now it’s happened again. The College Fix reports:
Earlier this week, a pair of black Penn State University professors reported a "noose" in a tree behind their house.
As reported by the PSU student newspaper Daily Collegian, the professors said the incident was "deeply distressing to them and their family."
The Centre Daily Times notes the profs believed the "noose" was "deliberately placed [on the tree] to harass them."
As with the case in Oakland, police promptly opened a probe that included an inspection of the neighborhood. And, as was the case in Oakland, the "nooses" were not placed by anyone harboring malicious intent toward the professors or anyone else. In fact, they weren’t nooses:
... [A]ccording to the professors’ neighbor who was interviewed by police, the "noose" actually was part of a swing set. The neighbors’ kid told police he merely had thrown the rope "into the woods." ... [T]he rope just "happened" to fall on the tree.

According to the American Institute of Physics analysis published in February 2021, in the two-year period of 2018 and 2019, out of a total of 1,910 Physics Ph.D.s produced by our graduate schools, 42 (2.2%) were Hispanic-Americans, only 9 (0.47%!) were African-Americans, 92 (4.8%) were Asian-Americans, 860 (45%) were white, and 887 (46%) were non-U.S. citizens.
With figures like these, it is clear why the percentages of African-American (12.3% of the population) and Hispanic-Americans (12.3% of the population) Ph.D.s in physics in our workforce are drastically under-represented. If you do not have a Ph.D. in physics, you simply cannot apply for a position that requires it! To make this point unmistakably clear, it is not the fault of American companies that they employ so few blacks and Hispanics Ph.D.s in physics - there simply are not enough of such Ph.D.s to consider hiring. In other words, racism has absolutely nothing to do with these minority employment disparities.

[FOXNEWS] Rescue teams in Mexico City late Monday responded to the collapse of a metro overpass, killing at least 23 and injuring about 70, according to authorities.
The scene was chaotic. People posted images and videos on social media, which appeared to show the train cars inverted and resting on the road below. Authorities said cars were trapped. Dozens of rescue workers were at the scene.
At least one orange-and-yellow subway car was captured hanging from an overpass, which was about 16 feet above the road in southern Mexico City. A television host in Mexico City tweeted a video of rescue personnel using ladders to help passengers get down from a tilted subway car.
The city's Comprehensive Risk Management and Civil Protection Agency, in a preliminary number, said at least 13 people died and about 70 people were maimed.
"What has happened on the metro today is a terrible tragedy," tweeted Mexican foreign minister Marcelo Ebrard.
