[Red State] Like Country Highway and City Journal, Alpha News has been reporting on Minnesota's fraud for longer than people have been paying attention. In early December, before Nick Shirley's videos exposing Somali daycare fraud went viral, Alpha News' Liz Collin Reports interviewed a former TSA employee named Liz Jaksa. Jaksa worked for TSA at the Minneapolis-St. Paul Airport from 2016 to 2021. In her tenure, Jaksa noticed a consistent pattern and particular people coming through the TSA checkpoints. Years later, Jaksa recognized that this was the now-exploding fraud happening in real time during her time with TSA.
"Since all this fraud came out, the connection's been made," Jaksa told Collin. "I didn't feel good about it then, and now it certainly all makes sense."
Jaksa said she was shocked to see "suitcases filled with millions of dollars cash. And the couriers were always Somali men traveling in pairs. And they got through the checkpoint."
Some for fancy houses back home, no doubt some for Al Shabaab.

Food for thought.
$1 million dollars in $100 bills would be 10k paper dollar bills. Which would stack to about 40 to 50 inches tall, depending on new or aged.
10k x 157 mm in width and 66.3 mm in height, with a weight of about 1 gram which would be 22 LBS total.
A suitcase could handle the amount, but would it be allowed as carry-on or checked baggage?
General answer "No, a standard carry-on bag is typically too small to fit $1 million in $100 bills...." Or
So checked bags may not have been seen by TSA humans and only the auto X-ray scanner for checked and loaded items prior to cargo loading.
But remember, we are talking $BILLION's

1m$ in 100's is 4" x 12" x 12" and 22#. That fits perfectly in a flight bag (like you see pilots carrying - or like they used to carry). Technically the CBP alarm is supposed to go off when you have more than 100k USD and over 10k is supposed to be declared.
All that being said carrying large amounts of US currency isn't all that unusual. "Back in the day" a 747 charter flight would cost 30k in fuel, 30k in non objection fees, 10k landing/parking/nav fees, 4k ground handling, 1k pushback plus catering, lav service, security and (G*D forbid) deicing. 80k easy for one transit through a "challenging" location. Paying in cash was not preferred but occasionally necessary. It was prudent to carry the funds for 2 transits - but not 3 (don't tempt fate).
What always took time was counting the amount out twice by each person, then converting to local currency, counting that out twice, then counting the change out twice. Then on to the next station. All whilst aiming for a 3 hour ground time.
So "hand carry" a million bucks is no biggie from a purely physical standpoint. Multiple millions being shipped usually go in the aft pit (tailcone door for a 747). That is the least accessible point in flight. You load it last with a belt loader and that is the first piece of cargo off with a belt loader at destination. And yes I have shipped a lot of currency back in the day.
[DM] A Somali-run Minneapolis daycare center announced that enrollment documents were stolen amid an alleged break-in just days after a viral video claimed childcare businesses in the city were stealing government funds.
Nasrulah Mohamed, a manager at Nokomis Daycare Center, told reporters at a news conference on Wednesday that the building was broken into, vandalized, and enrollment documents were stolen.
The Minneapolis Police Department confirmed that a break-in occurred at the center's address, but a preliminary report found that nothing was stolen. A subsequent report detailed the items Mohamed said were taken.
Mohamed said at the press conference that he and another manager were called to the facility early Tuesday morning and discovered that a wall had been damaged and documents stored in a file cabinet were missing from the office.
They included child enrollment information, employee documentation and checkbooks.
A Somali-American website, Tusmo Times, shared a video of the vandalism to the building, which depicted a damaged door and wall.
The attention on Somali-run daycares in Minnesota skyrocketed when YouTuber Nick Shirley released a viral video claiming the centers were using the business as a front to collect federal funds and weren't actually caring for children.
He visited multiple Somali-run daycares in the Minneapolis area and alleged that they were empty because they weren't in operation.
The video included several contentious interactions between Shirley and employees at the daycare centers.
Many of the centers featured in the video have denied Shirley's allegations, claiming the businesses were closed when he arrived or that his information was incorrect.
Nokomis wasn't featured in Shirley's video and there's no suggestion of impropriety related to the facility, but Mohamed claimed the center is receiving hate due to the YouTuber's allegations.
The daycare center has limited violations and has a total capacity of up to 71 children, according to the Department of Human Services.
Nokomis had two violations from its last inspection in October: failing to provide documentation for a teacher and failing to comply with nutritional requirements.
Mohamed told reporters at a press conference that the alleged break-in was 'devastating news' and they didn't know why their community was being targeted.
'One video made by a specific individual made this all happen,' he added.
Mohamed said employees at Nokomis were receiving hateful messages and voicemails following Shirley's viral video.
'The rhetoric of the video seeks to promote division and hate towards the Somali community, which has real life consequences as evidenced by the damage sustained by the center,' the daycare added in a press release.
As Mohamed spoke, supporters stood behind him with signs that read, 'Racism has NO place in childcare,' and 'No childcare = No workforce.'
Mary Solheim, a director at a local daycare center in Minnesota, also spoke at the press conference to denounce the alleged break-in.
She added that the incident was a result of the 'inflammatory rhetoric coming from the constant barrage of harassment from not only the current federal administration, but Minnesota legislators as well.'
Solheim called Shirley a 'random YouTube personality' and slammed his video for contributing to hate and fear towards the Somali community.
She also urged the federal government to end the freeze on childcare funds for Minnesota.
The Department of Health and Human Services announced on Tuesday that federal child care funding for Minnesota would freeze amid fraud allegations.
Deputy HHS Secretary Jim O'Neill announced the freeze on social media, writing that the department has launched a fraud-reporting hotline and demanded an audit from Governor Tim Walz's administration on the individuals in Shirley's video.
O'Neill added that all payments from the Administration for Children and Families will now require justification and a receipt or photo evidence to receive money.
The scandal is now the second one plaguing the Somali community in Minnesota. The FBI previously announced that $250 million was allegedly stolen by sham vendors laundering money intended for food aid.
Prosecutors convicted 57 defendants in the case, most of whom were of Somali descent.
FBI Director Kash Patel said the case was 'just the tip of a very large iceberg' of fraud in Minnesota.
However, Minnesota lawmakers have hit back at the federal administration, claiming that allegations of fraud were a guise to defund social services programs.
'This is Trump’s long game. We’ve spent years cracking down on fraudsters,' Walz wrote on X.
'It’s a serious issue - but this has been his plan all along. He’s politicizing the issue to defund programs that help Minnesotans.'
"I don’t think this is just Minnesota. I think this is going to [be] New York, Illinois, California, your usual suspects are [going to] be right there on the list," Chaffetz said.

Cities began canceling their celebrations following the FBI’s announcement that it had thwarted a terror plot planned for Los Angeles on New Year’s Eve. Here is a breakdown of major cities that have canceled events and why.
SYDNEY
While the main fireworks event at Sydney’s Opera House went ahead, in light of the Hanukkah Bondi terror attack, the NYE celebration at Bondi Beach did not.

“Due to the current situation on the ground, Waverley Council has decided to cancel New Year’s Eve events at Bondi Beach, including elrow XXL Bondi and Local’s Lawn,” organizers at Waverley Council told Sky News.

PARIS
Paris canceled its massive annual New Year’s Eve live concert at the Champs-Élysées due to security concerns. However, large crowds were still expected, as well as a fireworks display at midnight and a video projection on the Arc de Triomphe.
France’s Interior Minister Laurent Nuñez announced he is tightening security and is employing 90,000 police officers and gendarmes across the country to ensure the celebrations remain safe.

TOKYO
Tokyo’s famous NYE countdown at Shibuya Crossing was also canceled for security reasons. The decision was made by the Shibuya Countdown Executive Committee, which said that the size of the crowds would pose too much of a risk.
BELGRADE
The Mayor of Belgrade, Aleksandar Šapić, announced the cancellation of both the New Year’s Eve celebration and the Serbian New Year’s celebration on account of security reasons.
Šapić said he does not want to risk the safety of any children, given children often attend the events.
“I no longer want to take risks and endanger any child (…) We had that celebration in the Square last year, where a group of people who were passing by tried to rush in. Now, did they want to hurt them? I don’t believe they wanted to hurt them. But whatever they wanted, we will not take such a risk anymore.”
CHICAGO
While celebrations were not canceled, the city enforced a 10 p.m. curfew for everyone under 18 who is unaccompanied by an adult. It is also urged people to stay alert, be aware of their surroundings, and report anything suspicious.
Federal, state, and local law enforcement agencies also released a threat assessment last week warning that Chicago’s New Year’s Eve fireworks celebration at Navy Pier was “an attractive target for both foreign terrorists and domestic extremists.”

[SudanTribune] Nearly 284 hospitals and health centres have resumed operations in Khartoum State following widespread destruction and looting during the conflict, the Sudanese Doctors Network said on Wednesday, despite growing concerns over a spike in malaria infections.
The capital’s healthcare sector was devastated during the first year of the war, with roughly 70% of facilities forced to close due to artillery fire, systemic plundering, and the total collapse of supply chains. More than 120 hospitals were reportedly looted, severely limiting the state’s ability to meet escalating medical needs.
Reference infrastructure also sustained heavy damage, most notably the National Public Health Laboratory (Stack) and the Central Blood Bank. The network reported that the closure of these primary diagnostic centres has delayed critical treatments and complicated blood transfusion services for emergency cases.
A report by the network’s monitoring team, which tracks the rehabilitation of public and private facilities, highlighted a gradual recovery driven by local community initiatives. Of the 120 hospitals previously rendered inoperable, more than 40 have now returned to service.
The network identified 17 additional hospitals currently under maintenance that are scheduled to reopen in January. To address immediate gaps in care, 10 mobile clinics are now operating within the state to provide basic services to residents in remote or conflict-affected neighbourhoods.
Local efforts and non-governmental organizations have successfully restored 244 out of 282 neighbourhood health centres. Riyadh’s position is "wait and see" after the UAE announced a pullout on Tuesday, under pressure over a sweeping advance by the separatist forces in Yemen’s south.
Hours before the UAE’s announcement, the Saudi-led coalition in Yemen bombed an alleged Emirati weapons shipment, and Riyadh endorsed a 24-hour deadline issued by Yemen’s presidential council leader for UAE forces to leave.
"It’s a good de-escalation step, but how will it play out?" the source told AFP on condition of anonymity, referring to the UAE withdrawal.
"Saudi wants to see if UAE will halt supporting the separatists," he added.

The group has managed to gain control over all of Saada Governorate and parts of Amran, Al Jawf and Hajjah Governorates. It has also jolted Saudi peace negotiations with the Houthis and drawn simmering tensions with the UAE, Saudi’s neighbor and fellow oil power, into public view.

Abu Dhabi on Tuesday denied being behind the advance by the separatists, who insisted they were not about to withdraw from their newly captured territories.

This publication is significant because UN-documented reporting has long established that Al-Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula (AQAP) trained and hosted hundreds of Al-Shabaab fighters in Yemen’s Hadramout region, providing weapons, training, and operational support.
Notably, the Houthis have never publicly acknowledged ties to Al-Shabaab,

[IsraelTimes] President Donald Trump says he is withdrawing National Guard troops from Chicago, Los Angeles and Portland, following a series of legal setbacks over his military deployments in US cities.
The Republican president sent troops into the three cities run by Democrats for what he said was a crackdown on illegal immigration and crime in the first year of his second term in the White House.
Local leaders slammed the moves as authoritarian overreach and launched a string of legal challenges, with the US Supreme Court last week blocking the Chicago deployment.
“We are removing the National Guard from Chicago, Los Angeles, and Portland, despite the fact that CRIME has been greatly reduced by having these great Patriots in those cities, and ONLY by that fact,” Trump says on his Truth Social network.

Israel’s total population rose 1.1 percent during the year to a record 10.178 million, the CBS said. That was the same growth rate as a year earlier, making it one of Israel’s slowest years of growth ever.

Iranian missiles weren’t the only things booming in Tel Aviv in 2025.
Despite war and domestic turmoil, the year that ended Wednesday saw the value of tech merger and acquisition tech deals reach record heights as foreign investors scooped up Israeli innovation and talent, and the Tel Aviv stock exchange soar again and again to new all-time highs, outperforming global peers.
With the security situation seemingly calmed, investors and entrepreneurs in the tech space are much more optimistic for the year ahead than they were 12 months ago, according to a survey presented at a recent tech conference organized by venture capital firm Fusion and the Pearl Cohen Zedek Latzer Baratz law firm.
The poll of 200 VCs, angel investors, and entrepreneurs conducted by Fusion found that only 6 percent of respondents thought political and security uncertainty posed the biggest challenge for investors in Israel, down from 43% in last year’s survey. Asked about Israel’s future, 74.5% of respondents said they were optimistic, compared to 57% the previous year.
Among conference participants, though, the mood was decidedly less sanguine, with the apparent exodus of startup talent and business — stemming from those supposedly dissipating political and security concerns — fueling worries for the future of the tech sector, Israel’s main economic driver.
The dissonance reflected what appears to be an increasing lack of synchronicity between Israel at large and its tech ecosystem, which has seen unprecedented gains even as the nation’s economy has been stunted by wartime call-ups, airport-shuttering missile attacks and geopolitical isolation.
