#1 If you call "Hispanics" "Latine", how do you call Italian-Americans?

#2 Brazilians are not Hispanics, being descended from Portugal, Grom. They don’t even speak Spanish, though Portuguese is also descended from Latin.

#4 They speak a debased dialect far from the original language of old, of course. Or so Cicero and Seneca would no doubt say.

#5 ^But their right to be called "Latin" supperseeds - the mostly "Native American" from Latin America - by orders of magnitude.

#8 It makes me laugh all the time when the hispanics here in Texas are shocked at how well my wife speaks Spanish (She teaches it for a college, and to many a student's surprise when they learn she teaches SPANISH and not street Mexican:D, no easy A). She often points out to them that her family is Italian and that Spanish and Italian are dialects of Latin.

#10 It's hilarious as some of her professors were very racist and looked down on a 'non-Latino' teaching spanish...ignorant of their own history:p

#11 When satire becomes good advice.

Non such-and-such people learning that language is the entire history of human interaction, right down to the creation of writing.

My Parisian French Instructor, "I'm not sure exactly what they say in New Orleans, but it sure sounds better than Canadian French."

#14 Considering that the bulk of hispanic types have no problem with and even prefer 'latino', what this is really about is, "the "elites" feel they have the authority to tell you how you should identify and feel about yourself.
Your own ideas don't even come into it.

#15 The Swiss in Grisons Canton still speak Romansch, a derivative of Latin from remnant Romans left in Cis-Alpine Gaul after the sacking of the Western Roman Empire from the Vandal/Gothic invasions of the middle fifth century, and the final collapse to Germanic Odoacer in 476.

Wiki cite: "Romansh is one of the descendant languages of the spoken Latin language of the Roman Empire, which by the 5th century AD replaced the Celtic and Raetic languages previously spoken in the area. Romansh retains a small number of words from these languages. "

(Suddenly rather agitated) “ I don’t know what language! It hasn’t got a name!”
