#2 The people who can only say "mouse gun" and "poodle shooter" still won't be happy, but the 6.8 is a good round. And I totally doubt the 5.56 inventory will wind up in a landfill.

#3 new source of Ukrainian ammo?
The Ukrainian Air Force already uses %5.56 and so do Special forces.
It would give them a more accurate round than the AK-47.

#8 Lots of potential confusion here. 6.8 SPC is Remington 6.8 Special Purpose Cartridge, developed some years ago at the behest of Special Forces to provide something more hard hitting than 5.56. It's 6.8 x 43, designed to work in 5.56 lowers, but with a different magazine and bolt carrier group than the 5.56 uses. The new SIG 6.8 hybrid cartridge is not the same. It's 6.8 x 51 and you can learn more about it here.

#10 Too soon to say, but I suspect if you do want an upper chambered in the new cartridge, it will have to ride on an AR-10 lower. The AR-15 lower's mag well just won't be long enough.
