Part of the problem with public perception of SB62 stems from ACLU assertions that COVID-related jail closures have not correlated with an increase in crime. The group maintains that, statewide, crime has remained relatively flat.

Local law enforcement have major issues with that data. Their own suggests precipitous increases in property and violent crimes...

If only one person in that store had a concealed carry they could have taken him out.

Alissa described his brother as “very anti-social” and paranoid, adding that, in high school, he would describe “being chased, someone is behind him, someone is looking for him.”

“When he was having lunch with my sister in a restaurant, he said, ‘People are in the parking lot, they are looking for me.’ She went out, and there was no one. We didn’t know what was going on in his head,” Alissa said, admitting that he believes his brother is mentally ill.

That sounds like paranoid schizophrenia to me,

#21 We have a Democrat in the White House so Operation Chaos is back. They'll be shooting up brothels, grocery stores, schools, any target rich environment. The more casualties, the better to bring about a ban on AR-15s and other weapons with high capacity magazines but also to justify more restrictions on your rights and freedom.

But how did an obvious nut job like Ahmad get his hands on such a weapon anyway? Somebody drop the ball somewhere along the line? Hmmm? Like, accidentally on purpose?

Going back to the Daily Mail article I linked in comment #12, while they are holding the line at only identifying the miscreant as unadorned Ahmad Alissa, they give the very quick timeline of events:

TIMELINE AND 911 DISPATCH CALLS
2.49pm: Police scanners pick up first reports of the shooting.

The frantic callers describe a white gunman firing at people in the parking lot.

2.59pm: Officer Eric Talley, one of the first on the scene, is killed

3.04pm: SWAT teams arrive.

They find two people dead in the parking lot and one at the entrance of the store

Over the radio scanner, cops are heard yelling: 'Shooter inside! He just shot at us twice!'

Another said: 'Officer down inside the building'

3.21pm: Police stop reporting that they're being shot at.

It is around this time that the man is seen being led out of the store in boxer shorts

Were the fifteen agencies expecting problems? Half an hour from first call to resolution is almost unbelievable.

Separately, the Sun is on our boy like tan on brown rice, with lots of happy photos from before The Day. Key bits:

THE alleged Boulder shooter was reportedly paranoid and posted about racist Islamophobes before "killing 10 people."

Ahmad Al Aliwi Alissa, 21, has been charged after rampaging through a grocery store with an AR-15-style rifle, leaving 10 dead.

According to a Facebook page, that appeared to be Ahmad's, he was "born in Syria 1999" before he "came to the USA in 2002."

The 21-year-old would post regularly on Facebook, including sharing the hashtag "NeedAGirlfriend" and sharing memes about video games.

He also made a claim that "racist Islamophobic people" were "hacking my phone" and stopping him from having a "normal life."

Ahmad also shared a video that's caption claimed it showed a "corrections officer turn off his body cam before repeatedly punching an inmate with a mental health condition," which he caption: "This is not okay."

His school, Arvada West High School, confirmed to The Sun that Alissa was a student from March 2015 until he graduated in May 2018.

"Jeffco Public Schools and the Board of Education are saddened by the tragic event that took place in Boulder," the school said.

"We share the heartbreak of the families, coworkers, and friends of the victims and of the Colorado community that again faces another senseless act of violence."

NBC’s Pete Williams said on MSNBC that his federal sources said there is no indication that the shooting was an act of terror or a hate crime.

Herold said that the suspect Alissa from Arvada suffered a "through and through" wound to his leg and officials confirmed that he was in hospital before being brought to jail later today.

Witnesses said a man in tactical gear was silent as he carefully picked off his victims with a rifle in the parking lot before moving inside the store.

“He just came in and started shooting,” one shopper told The Denver Post.

Another said the gunman “let off a couple of shots, then was silent, and then he let off a couple more. He wasn’t spraying.”

He said: “I probably heard 30 shots. It was just pop, pop, pop, pop, pop.

In 2017, Alissa, then 18, attacked a classmate at Arvada West High School, according to an affidavit filed in the case. He punched the classmate in the head without warning, and when the boy fell to the ground, Alissa continued to punch him. The classmate suffered bruises and cuts to his head, according to the affidavit.

Witnesses told police they didn’t see or hear any reason for Alissa to attack the classmate. Alissa told officers that the classmate “had made fun of him and called him racial names weeks earlier,” according to the affidavit.

He was convicted of misdemeanor assault in 2018 and was sentenced to two months of probation and 48 hours of community service.

Arvada Police Detective Dave Snelling confirmed Tuesday the local department had at least two interactions with Alissa over the past several years including a case of criminal mischief. The details on that case were not immediately available.

Snelling would not say whether local police had received any warnings or complaints about Alissa recently, however, and instead deferred the question to the FBI.
