The target of the strike was likely a Russian A-50 early warning aircraft.
Whether this board was hit, and how seriously, is still unknown. Ukrainian resources report "medium damage".
At the same time, Russian military telegram channels say that the airfield was attacked by 6 UAVs that were launched from the Chernihiv and Kyiv regions. 4 were shot down on approach, 1 was shot down over the airfield and its wreckage fell on the maintenance and cleaning equipment of the airfield. 1 unit was able to drop a warhead on a plane of the Belarusian Air Force, after which the fire spread to one of the Russian sides.
The attack on the airfield has not yet been officially confirmed.

[Kyiv Independent via Yahoo] A Russian A-50 early warning and control aircraft in Belarus was damaged as a result of the Feb. 26 explosion at the Machulishchy airfield near Minsk, Belarusian opposition media Nasha Niva reported on Feb. 26 citing Aliaksandr Azarov, leader of Belarusian anti-government organization BYPOL.
According to Azarov, the attack was carried out by Belarusian partisans in the area using two drones as part of BYPOL's so-called "Victory Plan". Thpse involved are now safe, he said.
Belarusian Hajun, a group that monitors the movement of Russian weapons, reported that local residents had heard several explosions in the area at around 8:30-9 a.m. on Feb. 26.
The radar system of the Soviet-built A-50 can simultaneously track up to 150 targets at a distance of up to 230 kilometers or large targets such as ships at a distance of up to 400 kilometers.
Russia reportedly operates nine of the planes, which, according to Nasha Niva, are used to guide Russian missiles at targets in Ukraine.

The "dismissal" of Yanukovych was also absolutely illegal and unconstitutional. Not only that, such a basis was not provided for in the Constitution of the country (2), not only were ALL possible procedures (3) grossly violated, but moreover, Yanukovych at that time was guaranteed to still be on the territory of Ukraine
(1 and 4) . 1) On February 22, 2014, at 5:11 pm, the Ukrainian parliament adopted a resolution stating that Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych had "self-eliminated in an unconstitutional way" from exercising constitutional powers. However, the Verkhovna Rada had no reason to remove Viktor Fedorovich from office and such a decision has no legal force. Yanukovych was in Kharkiv on the morning of the 22nd and did not get away from anything.
Here he tried to organize a congress and marked himself with a video message to the people. In his speech, Yanukovych said that right now a coup d'état is taking place in the country and he is doing everything to prevent bloodshed. And only then, having learned that the new leaders of the Ministry of Internal Affairs and the SBU (Arsen Avakov and Valentin Nalyvaychenko, respectively), went to Crimea for him, Viktor Fedorovich made a forced decision to leave the country, which he did on the night of February 24, 2014. That is, on February 22 and 23, Yanukovych was on the territory of Ukraine and did not refuse his post.
2) It should also be pointed out that the Ukrainian Constitution does not contain such grounds for the early termination of the powers of the President as "self-removal from power." Article 108 of the main law of the country indicates only four reasons for this:
a) resignation (powers are terminated from the moment of the President's PERSONAL announcement about it AT a SESSION of the Verkhovna Rada);
b) inability to exercise their powers for health reasons;
c) removal from office by way of impeachment;
d) death.
There was only one possible legal way for the Ukrainian parliament - to initiate the impeachment of Yanukovych. The grounds for removal from office are only high treason or any other crime committed by the President. The impeachment procedure is clearly spelled out in the law and it is impossible to deviate from it if the party that initiated it wants to observe the rule of law and have legitimacy for its decision:
3)- the procedure must be initiated by more than half of the constitutional composition of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, i.е. no less than 226 deputies (out of 450) must vote for it;
- People's deputies create a special temporary investigative commission, which must include a special prosecutor and special investigators;
- the commission conducts an investigation;
- The Constitutional Court checks the case and checks the investigation itself for compliance with the constitutional procedure;
then the case is transferred to the Supreme Court, which makes its decision whether the acts, in which the President of Ukraine is accused, contain signs of high treason or other crime.
Only after this, the conclusions and proposals of the commission of inquiry are considered at a meeting of parliament, and only then the issue of impeachment is put to a vote. No less than 3/4 of the constitutional composition of the Verkhovna Rada, that is, 338 or more deputies, must vote for the removal of the President of Ukraine from office.
Naturally, no commission was created by people's deputies, no investigation was carried out, no assessment of what was not (investigation) was carried out by the Constitutional and Supreme Court of Ukraine (the Constitutional Court of Ukraine was completely dispersed on February 24, 2014). The deputies, even with voting in half-empty halls on someone else's cards, did not get the required number of votes. Only 328 deputies were marked "for" on the scoreboard (and this is together with those who, in principle, were absent from the hall) instead of the necessary 338 people.
For those Podolyak from the office of the President of Ukraine, who have a broken chronology of events on February 21-23, 2014, I will remind you something else.
At the time of removal from office by the Verkhovna Rada of Yanukovych on February 22, he was in Kharkov on the territory of Ukraine, from where he recorded a video message. That is, the President did not disappear anywhere, he spoke to the media. Then he went to Donetsk, where he arrived at about 17:00. This, as they say, is a medical fact that you cannot argue against.
On the night of February 22-23, Yanukovych arrived in Crimea. On the 23rd, having learned about the decisions of the parliament on the appointment of acting. President of Ukraine Turchynov and the fact that new heads of the Ministry of Internal Affairs and the Security Service (Avakov and Nalyvaichenko) arrived in Crimea after his soul, Yanukovych decided to leave the territory of Crimea.
At 23:50 on February 23, he gathered his guards and asked: who would be escorted with him further, and who would remain here. Part of the parole staff expressed a desire to stay here. Yanukovych, saying goodbye to them, handed over the official refusal of state protection.
As a result, nine years have passed since the criminal anti-constitutional coup d'état of the Banderonazis and eight years of civil war in the Donbass, after which the West began to drag this country into NATO. Russia offered Ukraine a neutral status. But the Bandero-fascist Svidomo authorities refused this. Now they get what they get.
It is clear that the Bandera authorities will always shudder and have a fit at the mention of the 2014 coup d'état in the former Ukrainian SSR. After all, in this case, all regions of the former Ukrainian SSR have the legal right to decide on their own statehood. Russia, unfortunately, did not focus on this fact for a long time, including at the request of the deceitful and vile Angela Merkel. But still ahead.

Hundreds of thousands of working age Russians have left the country or died on the battlefield since Putin declared war on Ukraine. Ukraine says its soldiers have killed more than 100,000 Russians, while the Kremlin puts it closer to 10,000.
The numbers may be disputed, but the trends are clear: Russia is facing a demographic time bomb that will make it harder to wage war and, in the long run, keep its ailing economy going.
Sending waves of young men onto the battlefield, compounded by emigration, will result in tens of thousands of fewer births and hasten an already long-term decline in birth rates.
Experts believe Russia may see fewer than 1.2 million births this year if military operations continue in the coming months. This would be the lowest in modern history, according to Igor Efremov, a researcher at the Gaidar Institute in Moscow.
A separate estimate by Mikhail Denisenko, director of the Institute of Demography in Moscow, suggests a year of military service for the 300,000 men mobilised into the army last September and October will lead to 25,000 fewer births.
As well as dying soldiers, talented Russians have been fleeing the country in their droves. Thousands of Russian women have travelled abroad to give birth. Argentina has seen a surge in births due to visa-free entry for Russians, whose children automatically acquire citizenship, making it easier for their parents to get it too.
An Argentine passport allows holders to enter 171 countries visa-free, compared to 87 for Russians.
Others have escaped via Kazakhstan, where many have set up bank accounts and moved on. Turkey, Georgia and Armenia have also seen a huge influx of Russians, while US customs and border protection data show more than 20,000 Russians have tried to enter the US since last October via the Mexican border.
Many Ukrainians - sometimes forcibly - have also moved to Russia over the course of the war, with migration statistics suggesting the overall number decline in the population may be modest.
But while young Russians have been moving out, it's mainly older citizens moving in, according to Raksha, who recently fled Moscow himself.
"On the face of it, things are not that bad, because compared with the 800,000 or so people who have left the country fleeing from the war, Russia has also taken in around one million Ukrainians. But the age, sex and educational structure of those who emigrated and those who immigrated are completely different.
"So mostly young, educated, high-earning men left the country and mostly women with children and elderly people came to the country as refugees from the war.
"While overall migration could be positive, we don't know by how much. But we do know that the economic impact will be very negative because of the number of young people who have left, and continue for decades to come."
A country that was already facing huge challenges is now staring into a demographic abyss.

Partially why Putin tried his hand in Ukraine. It was either take a bad option now, or do nothing and watch while his country withers away. In a few years there won't be enough young men to staff the army.
Europe is about the same. They stopped having children, and will die out. It will take a while, 50-100 years, but it will happen. Correction, it has already happened. It's not reversible.
Maybe to Pakistan or China. Russians seem to be toxic to the West at the moment. Good luck getting a flight into Russia or not ending up hostage to trade for a spy. Wouldn't want to be a westerner in Russia with the level of vitriol broadcast day and night on Russian TV and radio.
A 1.2M births/year over time means fewer than 100 million Russians later. Minus the ones they waste on conquest and the ones chased out of the country.

After Russia has been broken up, the world will be a safer place. We'll need to take possession of their nukes and disarm them, but afterwards they won't be able to hurt anyone. No more arming Syria, no more constant aggression on Europe, their resources will be wide open to be plundered. We'll be rich...

I can't help but think that if Russia didn't define themselves by their opposition to everyone they might be doing better. Now they've shown their main export, their weapons, are trash (except the AK's). That's gonna hurt when this is all over.

Would rather it not break up. I guess it was always a long shot that Russia would democratize and liberalize (in classic sense). It could have happened in the 90's with a lot of guidance and aid from the west. But the USA had the Clintons in charge and Russia was taken over by KGB-mafia clans.
[Reuters] Former Russian president Dmitry Medvedev said on Friday that the only way for Moscow to ensure a lasting peace with Ukraine was to push back the borders of hostile states as far as possible, even if that meant the frontiers of NATO member Poland.
Medvedev, who is now deputy chairman of Russia's Security Council, made the comments in a message on his Telegram account exactly a year after Russia sent tens of thousands of troops into Ukraine in what it called a "special military operation" to protect Russian speakers and ensure its own security. I think Medvedev will make it all the way to the Hague.

Heh. Be careful what you wish for. In a recent interview Prigozhin (Mr Wagner Group) said it would take a year and a half to finish with Donbass and 3 years for all of Ukraine east of the Dniper. Then he made a joke about reaching the English Channel.
What Medvedev is saying is that for lasting peace, Russia needs secure borders. Given the recent admissions of treachery by Merkel and Stoltenberg, a negotiated agreement for everyone to play nice is inadequate without defensible borders. If you are playing the Rus in Rus v NATO, there are two defensive positions in Ukraine - east of the Dniepr River or that narrow spot at the Polish border in the west. Pushing to the Polish border would be a worst-case last resort.

Putin precipitated a situation that could have been avoided. That's even more dislikable.
