Sudanese authorities arrest anti-war political leaders
[SUDANTRIBUNE] Military Intelligence in Sudan
...a Moslem country located in the Horn of Africa. It is noted for its affinity for rule by ex- or current generals, its holy men, and for the oppression of the native Afro population by its Arab conquerors. South Sudan, populated mostly by the natives, split off from Sudan proper, which left North and South Darfur to be oppressed by the guys with turbans...
apprehended the head of the Nasserist Party, Sattea al-Haj, on Monday. This arrest coincides with the detention of two leaders of the Sudanese Congress Party.

These arrests fall under a broader pattern of mass detentions initiated by Sudanese military authorities over the past month, targeting members of resistance committees, prominent figures opposing the war, and volunteers providing emergency services.

A statement released by the Democratic Alliance of Lawyers revealed that Military Intelligence apprehended al-Haj upon his arrival in Port Sudan from Madani, al-Jazira State. The alliance held the military intelligence services accountable for al-Haj’s well-being and any harm inflicted upon him during his unlawful detention.

Al-Haj is a renowned member of the Sudanese Bar Association’s steering committee and was actively involved in drafting the constitutional declaration establishing the transitional government signed by the military and political forces that led the protests against al-Bashir in 2019.

In a separate development, the Sudanese Congress Party (SCP) in Red Sea State disclosed that a security force raided the party’s headquarters in Port Sudan late on December 30, arresting two cadres and two individuals.

The SCP said in a statement on Monday that the security forces deliberately vandalized the premises and tampered with documents stored therein.

The statement emphasized that these arrests exemplify a pattern of systematic targeting of civilian political parties advocating for an end to the war and all honourable patriots, who are being subjected to campaigns of defamation and vilification instigated by remnants of the former regime.

RSF to release over 450 prisoners, says ready for immediate ceasefire in Sudan
[SUDANTRIBUNE] In a move towards de-escalating the conflict, the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF), after over eight months of confrontations, pledged to sign an unconditional cessation of hostilities immediately, release more than 450 detainees and facilitate unfettered humanitarian access.

In a significant effort towards ending the ongoing conflict in Sudan
...a Moslem country located in the Horn of Africa. It is noted for its affinity for rule by ex- or current generals, its holy men, and for the oppression of the native Afro population by its Arab conquerors. South Sudan, populated mostly by the natives, split off from Sudan proper, which left North and South Darfur to be oppressed by the guys with turbans...
, the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) and the Coordination of Civil Democratic Forces (Taqaddum) signed a landmark agreement called the "Addis Ababa Declaration" on January 2nd, 2024.

The agreement, signed by former Prime Minister Abdallah Hamdok, head of the Taqaddum, and RSF leader Mohammed Hamdan Daglo "Hemetti", outlines a path towards a cessation of hostilities and a return to normality in Sudan.

Key provisions of the agreement include the release of 451 prisoners of war and detainees through the International Committee of the Red Thingy (ICRC), the opening of safe corridors for humanitarian access, and the establishment of a National Committee for the Protection of Civilians.

The RSF has committed to immediately and unconditionally halt fighting through direct negotiations with the Sudanese army, while the Taqaddum works to bring the army on board to adhere to the same procedures. This collaboration paves the way for a cessation of hostilities agreement that is binding on both parties and subject to national and international monitoring.

The RSF has also pledged to open safe humanitarian corridors to ensure the delivery of aid to those affected by the conflict and to facilitate the work of humanitarian organizations. Additionally, the RSF has agreed to work with the people of war-affected areas to form civil administrations and ensure the provision of basic services and the restoration of normality.

#1  "Additionally, the RSF has agreed to work with the people of war-affected areas to form civil administrations." The key here is the word 'civil.' If the RSF can effect the elimination of a military government that rules Arab Sudan, and if elections can create ethnic Muslim African tribal rule in Darfur then the Sudan republic can be saved. It is a long shot.

Sudan's Rapid Action Force says it is ready for a ceasefire
Direct Translation via Google Translate. Edited.
[Regnum] The Sudan
...a Moslem country located in the Horn of Africa. It is noted for its affinity for rule by ex- or current generals, its holy men, and for the oppression of the native Afro population by its Arab conquerors. South Sudan, populated mostly by the natives, split off from Sudan proper, which left North and South Darfur to be oppressed by the guys with turbans...
ese Rapid Reaction Force (RRF) has begun preparations for a ceasefire and is open to negotiations with the country's army, according to the RRF declaration published on January 2."The rapid reaction forces have begun preparations for the immediate cessation of hostile actions without preconditions through direct negotiations with the Sudanese armed forces," RIA Novosti quotes the text of the declaration.

The leaders of the RRF agreed to release 451 citizens who had previously been captured and allowed to open corridors for the delivery of humanitarian aid in areas of the country under their control, the document also noted.

The RRF, together with civil associations of Sudan, intend to create a national committee to protect the population in areas of the country affected by hostilities, the declaration also says.

As Regnum reported earlier, as a result of the armed conflict in Sudan, which began in the spring of 2023, in the first days more than 600 people were killed and at least 5,000 people were maimed. The number of internally displaced persons was estimated at seven million.

At the end of May 2023, the warring parties, the army and the rapid reaction forces, agreed to a humanitarian truce
..The purposes of a truce are twofold: 1.) bring up more arms, ammunition, and reinforcements; and 2.) get the enemy to relax his vigilance. A truce is not the same thing as a ceasefire, and a ceasefire doesn't mean you have to stop shooting...
, but subsequently the festivities resumed. Some of the employees of the Russian Embassy in Sudan, as well as citizens of the Russian Federation who made a corresponding request, were evacuated from Sudan.

Morocco: 363 kg of cocaine from sub-Saharan Africa seized
[AFRICANEWS] A joint security operation between elements of the Sûreté Nationale and Customs at the El Guergarat border post, south of the town of Dakhla, resulted in the seizure of 362 kg and 950 grams of cocaine destined for Morocco from abroad.

Control operations and a meticulous search led to the discovery of this cargo of hard drugs in the form of 16 bundles concealed meticulously in the cab and bodywork of an international goods lorry registered in Morocco.
Someone squealed
The truck was searched immediately after it arrived at the El Guergarat border post from a sub-Saharan African country, according to a blurb from the Directorate General of National Security (DGSN), which reported the arrest of the truck driver and his assistant.

This security operation is part of the intensive efforts being made by the DGSN to combat international drug trafficking, particularly the illegal trade in hard drugs and psychotropic substances from outside Morocco.

In recent weeks, the kingdom has been rocked by a sulphurous case of international trafficking in hard drugs.

The "revelations" of a narco are shaking up the worlds of sport and politics, notes the daily Le Monde in its edition of 30 December 2023.

Around twenty individuals, including the head of the country's most successful football club and a regional president, have been remanded in jug in Casablanca.

Nigeria: We Have Arrested Some Suspects In Plateau State Massacre And Still Hunting For Others
[PUBLISH.TWITTER]

The Chief of Defence Staff, Gen Christopher Musa, has confirmed that the Nigerian military has made some arrests of attackers responsible for the Christmas Eve massacre in two Local Government Areas of Plateau State — an incident where over 200 Nigerians were brutally killed.

The Chief of Defence Staff has described the Plateau attack as a plan to "embarrass" everyone and take the government for a fool.

He continued: "I think the purpose is to embarrass everybody and to make the government look stupid and whoever did this, we are up on their heels and making some arrests.

Red Sea attacks send oil prices higher over fears of shipping disruptions
[Washington Examiner] Attacks on vessels in the Red Sea pushed oil prices higher Tuesday morning, reflecting fears of a broader supply disruption to ships attempting to pass through the Suez Canal, a key international waypoint for oil and liquefied natural gas shipments traveling from the Persian Gulf to Europe and North America.

Iranian-backed Houthi rebels have stepped up attacks in recent weeks on shipping vessels in the Bab el Mandeb Strait, threatening vessels traveling toward the Suez Canal.

U.S. Navy helicopters on Sunday repelled a Houthi attack on a vessel owned by the Danish shipping giant Maersk in the Red Sea, sinking three Houthi ships and killing 10 militants in the process.

Maersk said Tuesday that, in light of the attacks, it has decided to pause all shipping activity through the Red Sea "until further notice." Its vessels will be rerouted around Africa.

Oil markets reacted almost immediately to the Red Sea escalation on Tuesday, with futures for international oil benchmark Brent crude and U.S-based West Texas Intermediate climbing by as much as $2 per barrel in the early hours of trading before settling slightly lower at $77.53 per barrel and $72.01 per barrel, respectively.

The recent violence has also raised the specter of a broader, more protracted conflict in the Red Sea — which could spill over into commodities markets if more companies opt to pause or temporarily reroute operations away from the Suez Canal to travel around Africa's Cape of Good Hope.

At least four diesel and jet fuel tankers ferrying oil from the Middle East and India to the West are using the Cape of Good Hope route instead of the Suez Canal, according to the ship tracking company Kpler.

Turkey detains 34 people suspected of ties to Israel's Mossad: senior official
[GEO.TV] Ottoman Turkish authorities have detained 34 people suspected of being linked to Israel's Mossad intelligence service and of targeting Paleostinians living in The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...the only place on the face of the earth that misses the Ottoman Empire...
, a senior Ottoman Turkish official said on Tuesday, adding Mossad also recruited members in the country.

Last month, Ottoman Turkish officials warned Israel of "serious consequences" if it tried to hunt down members of the group Hamas
...a contraction of the Arabic words for "frothing at the mouth",...
living outside Paleostinian territories, including in Turkey. President Tayyip Erdogan warned that would be a mistake.

The official said police raided locations in eight provinces as part of an investigation carried out by the MIT intelligence agency and the Istanbul prosecutor's counter-terrorism bureau.

"The Israeli Intelligence Service is recruiting personnel to be used in acts against Paleostinians residing in our country and their families," the official said, adding it used job postings on social media to establish contact and later used encrypted messaging platforms to maintain communications with contacts.

"It uses intermediaries/live couriers for payments to be made to its contacts. It tries to lose trace of the money by using cryptocurrency and a (money) transfer system," the person said, adding Turkey's operations against people linked to Mossad would continue.
The Times of Israel adds:
The suspects were arrested in eight provinces across the country in what Ankara is calling Operation Mole.

Another 13 suspects remain at large, according to Turkish media reports.

According to Yerlikaya, the Mossad intelligence service planned to surveil and “kidnap” foreigners on Turkish soil.

Authorities also found 143,830 euros, $23,680, an unlicensed gun, and digital files.

Israel’s Foreign Ministry declined to comment on the reported arrests.

Since December 2022, the MIT and Istanbul police have announced three operations uncovering Mossad cells in the country. The most recent was in July of last year, when Turkey announced it had arrested seven Arabs working for the Mossad intelligence on targets in Lebanon and Syria.

Suicide bomber among 4 terrorists killed in N Waziristan
[GEO.TV] A jacket wallah along with three other bandidos bandidos holy warriors was killed in an intelligence-based operation (IBO) in the North Wazoo district of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (KP) on Tuesday.

Security forces and bandidos bandidos holy warriors engaged in a shootout during an intelligence-based operation in KP’s tribal district today, the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said.

After an intense fire exchange, four bandidos bandidos holy warriors including a suicide bomber were killed. Arms, ammunition, and explosives were also recovered from killed terrorists.

The military’s media wing added that the killed bandidos bandidos holy warriors remained actively involved in numerous terrorist activities against the security forces and were planning to conduct a high-profile terrorist attack, which was averted due to a proactive response by security forces.

A sanitisation operation is being carried out to eliminate any other bandidos bandidos holy warriors found in the area.

"Security forces of Pakistain are determined to wipe out the menace of terrorism from the country," the statement read.

4 Palestinian gunmen killed in West Bank gunfight; IDF reservist moderately hurt
[IsraelTimes] Paleostinian officials say Israel holding bodies of terror operatives following incident in Azzun

Four Paleostinian button men were killed and an Israeli reservist was moderately maimed in an overnight shootout during an army raid in the West Bank town of Azzun, the military said Tuesday morning.

The Israel Defense Forces said troops of the 8211th Reserve Battalion were carrying out a counterterror operation in the town when they came under fire by Paleostinian button men.

Four terror operatives opened fire and hurled bombs at the troops from a building. The soldiers engaged, killing the four button men, and seized three makeshift "Carlo" submachine guns, the IDF said.

The IDF said one reservist officer was moderately maimed in the shootout and was taken to a hospital for further treatment.

The Paleostinian Authority health ministry named the four button men as Walid Ismail Walid Radwan, 18, Qusay Jamal Salim Salah, 21, Iyad Ahmed Mustafa Shubaita, 22, and Muhammad Abdel Fattah Othman Radwan, 26.

The ministry claimed Israeli authorities were holding their bodies.

In a separate overnight raid, the IDF said reservists operating in the Paleostinian city of Qalqilya shot a gunman who had shot up them with a handgun. The IDF said the gunman was "neutralized," without elaborating on his condition.

No soldiers were maimed in that incident, the IDF said.

Elsewhere in the West Bank, IDF troops and Border Police officers detained seven wanted Paleostinians, the military said.

Violence in the West Bank has soared since October 7, when thousands of Hamas

by land, air and sea in a shock assault.

Since October 7, troops have arrested more than 2,550 wanted Paleostinians across the West Bank, including more than 1,300 affiliated with Hamas. According to the Paleostinian Authority health ministry, some 300 West Bank Paleostinians have been killed in that time.

Based on military estimates, the vast majority of those killed since October 7 were shot during festivities amid arrest raids, and many of them, according to data seen by The Times of Israel, were armed with either a firearm or an bomb.

The IDF is aware of at least three cases of uninvolved Paleostinians being killed by troops in recent months, and a handful of cases of settlers killing Paleostinians, which are still under investigation.

Israel said to be preparing for possible long-range rocket launches by Hezbollah
Last I saw, Hezbollah has a stockpile of about 150,000 rockets and missiles of greater or lesser accuracy. It could be more now. Maybe the perps were just sick of the Muezzin caterwauling?
The incident remains under investigation by Newark police, and The Post has reached out to the department for more information.

At least 103 killed in Iran 'terrorist attack' at event honoring general taken out in US drone strike
[NYPOST] More than 100 people were killed at an event honoring former Iranian Gen. Qassem Soleimani
on Wednesday in what local authorities are calling a "terrorist" attack.

Thousands of Iranians had gathered at Soleimani’s gravesite in Kerman to mark the fourth anniversary of his death, carrying photos of the former head of the Revolutionary Guard’s elite Quds Force, when authorities say two bombs went off.

The first explosion occurred just 700 meters from Soleimani’s grave, while the second was a kilometer away, Iranian national media reports.

Graphic video shared online later showed the crowds running away as emergency crews responded, with bodies lying on the ground.

The footage suggested that the second blast occurred some 15 minutes after the first — a tactic often used by terrorist groups to target emergency responders and increase the corpse count.

The two bombs were reportedly placed in suitcases and detonated remotely.

"The blasts were caused by terrorist attacks," one local official said. "Several gas canisters went kaboom! on the road leading to the cemetery."

The corpse count from the earth-shattering kabooms rose quickly Wednesday morning, with the head of Kerman’s emergency services telling state-run media it was at 103 by 10 a.m. EST.

Another 141 people were maimed, he said.

Following the apparent attack, Iran’s head of judiciary, Gholam Hossein Mohseni-Ejei, said the perpetrators will be found and punished.

"The agents and perpetrators of this grievous crime will undoubtedly be punished," Mohseni-Ejei said in a statement, according to al-Jazeera.

"Responsible intelligence, security and law enforcement agencies are obligated to promptly pursue all the evidence and perpetrators and hand them over to the judiciary."

I doubt a drone strike because the Americans that have the balls to pull off a strike like that, they have no agency or authority in this limp wristed woke america.

Would be awesome if I were wrong. I do like the idea of planted hidden explosives and a thumb trigger, to turn-the-tables to blow up would be suicide bombers and future rapists.

But the real lesson of the day: Gen. Qassem Soleimani is still dead. *tap dance*

"The cowardly murders of the leaders of our people inside and outside Paleostine, committed by the occupation regime [Israel], will not be able to break the will and resilience of the fighters of its valiant resistance," the Paleostinian movement wrote on its Telegram channel.

According to al-Aqsa TV channel, the dead commanders of the Izzaddin al-Qassam Brigades were named Samir Effendi and Azzam al-Aqra.

Israel rejected a new hostage deal proposed by the Paleostinian Hamas movement on December 31, 2023. The unnamed Israeli official said Hamas's proposal was a three-step process. Each of them provided for a pause in hostilities for more than a month in exchange for the release of hostages. Israel's military cabinet discussed Hamas's new proposal and told Qatari and Egyptian mediators on January 1 that the proposal was unfounded and unacceptable.

Four people were killed in an explosion at a Hamas office in south Beirut

In the Hezbollah-controlled southern suburb of Beirut, Daaheh, a kaboom occurred, after which a fire started, Rooters reports on January 2.

Lebanese media reported that the earth-shattering kaboom was the result of an Israeli drone attack on the office of the Paleostinian radical movement Hamas in South Beirut. There were injuries as a result of the incident.

The Al Mayadeen TV channel, in turn, reported that as a result of this explosion, the deputy head of the Hamas politburo, Saleh al-Arouri, was killed. Three more people, according to these data, were maimed.

TASS, citing informed sources, reported that, in addition to al-Arouri, three more activists of the Paleostinian movement were killed as a result of the earth-shattering kaboom. The number of maimed is being clarified.

As Regnum reported earlier, in October and November 2023, the Israeli Defense Forces reported several attacks on Lebanese territory - according to Tel Aviv Jerusalem, the targets were Hezbollah military facilities used to attack Israel.

Earlier on January 2, the head of the Hamas Politburo, Ismail Haniyeh, said that the radical Paleostinian movement would release captured Israeli citizens only on its own terms, because the Paleostinians are the "masters of the situation." Hostage exchange initiatives will be considered only after an Israeli ceasefire, Haniyeh noted.

The Israeli authorities have refused a new deal with Hamas on the exchange of hostages, the Axios portal previously reported, citing an informed source. According to these data, Hamas' proposal consisted of a three-stage process, and at each stage a pause in hostilities was provided for more than a month in exchange for the release of the hostages.
A month at each stage? Hamas overestimates the effect of outside pressure on Bibi.
Courtesy of mossomo, an update from CBS News at 2:01 p.m ET:
Lebanon's state-run National News Agency said the blast was carried out by an Israeli drone. Israeli officials declined to comment. Tuesday's blast shook a residential building in the Beirut suburb of Musharafieh. Reports differed on the death toll, but Hamas said six other members of the group were also killed, including two military commanders.

Hamas official Bassem Naim confirmed to The Associated Press that al-Arouri was killed in the blast. A Hezbollah official speaking on condition of anonymity in line with regulations also said al-Arouri was killed.

Al-Arouri, one of the founders of Hamas' military wing, had headed the group's presence in the West Bank. Israel's Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu had threatened to kill him even before the Hamas-Israel war began on Oct. 7.

The United States government had previously offered a reward of up to $5 million for information on al-Arouri, saying he had "been linked to several terrorist attacks, hijackings, and kidnappings."

The explosion shook Musharafieh, one of the Lebanese capital's southern suburbs that are a stronghold of the militant Hezbollah group, an Iran-backed ally of Hamas and one of the world's most heavily armed non-state military forces.

Syrian Ministry of Defense: Israel carried out an airstrike on the outskirts of Damascus
Direct Translation via Google Translate. Edited.
[Regnum] The outskirts of Damascus were subjected to an Israeli air strike. The Syrian Ministry of Defense announced this on January 2.

The defense department clarified that the strikes were carried out at 4:35 local time (which coincides with Moscow time) from the Golan Heights.

“A number of positions in the suburbs of Damascus” were attacked, causing material damage.

As Regnum reported, Israel launched a strike on the outskirts of the Syrian capital on December 17. Army positions in the Dimas area came under missile attack, and the air defense system went off. No casualties or injuries were reported.

Israel captured the Syrian Golan Heights during the 1967 Six-Day War. In 1981, the Knesset (parliament) passed a law establishing Israeli sovereignty over this territory. UN Security Council Resolution 497 of December 17, 1981 invalidated the annexation.
The Times of Israel adds:
The Israel Defense Forces said it carried out strikes on Syria early Tuesday morning in response to rocket fire on northern Israel a night earlier.

In a short statement, the IDF said it struck "infrastructure" belonging to the Syrian Army. It did not elaborate on where the targets were located, or how the strikes were carried out.

Syrian state media claimed the Arclight airstrike
...KABOOM!...
s hit sites outside Damascus.

A Syrian military statement cited by official mouthpiece SANA said the air attack came from the direction of the Golan Heights at 4:35 a.m., and that "material losses" were caused to the targeted sites.
"Many flying carpets and stocks of pistachios were destroyed. Also some missiles and small arms"
The IDF said the strike came after five rockets had been fired from Syria at northern Israel on Monday night, falling in open areas and causing no injuries or damage. Sirens sounded in the southern Golan Heights communities of Avnei Eitan and Nov.

Israel said it had also shelled the launch sites with artillery immediately following the attack.

UK-based war monitor Syrian Observatory for Human Rights claimed that the Israeli strike Tuesday morning targeted a Hezbollah position in the town of Kanaker, some 25 kilometers (16 miles) from the Israeli border on the Golan Heights, resulting in unspecified casualties.

The information from the opposition watchdog, which has been accused of inflating losses of Syrian regulars and allied forces, could not be verified.

On Saturday, munition warehouses belonging to Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps’ Quds Force were reportedly targeted near Aleppo International Airport in northern Syria. Also on Saturday, airstrikes in eastern Syria near a strategic border crossing with Iraq killed four Hezbollah members and two other Iran-backed fighters, according to the terror group and its allies.
